It's not that Gordon didn't know who Barney, Kleiner, Eli, and everyone else was, it's just that he doesn't remember them all being so close as everyone seems to act like they are.

He knows that time makes the heart grow fonder and all that, but this seems a little extreme for everyone to act like they were all very good friends back at Black Mesa. Gordon hadn't even known Barney's name until he'd told him in that back room in the train station!
