Might be the first real heartfelt thing anyone has ever said to Stede, and said with such sincerity. To know that he makes Ed happy.

He was so upset and uncertain at the start of this scene and you can see him slowly start to calm with Ed. It's so lovely.

Also, I included Black Pete because even though it’s never acknowledged in the show, I think it’s important to note that his actor, Matthew Maher has talked about his cleft lip and palate and said about the scar and his speech impediment: “I always think of it as a challenge—an impediment/challenge to my acting career…If you have anything that sort of makes you aggressively different than everybody else, you have to sort of wrestle with it. I had speech therapy. Part of committing to being an actor was finding a good speech therapist to make me just a little bit more comprehensible. But even still, she didn’t eliminate the lisp and there’s still the scars. It’s been one of the biggest things that’s slowed me down, but it’s also been paradoxically the thing that distinguished me the most.” So even though it’s not addressed in canon, the fact that it isn’t and he’s able to just be as he is on screen is so nice to see.

so ofmd goes into detail about lighthouses, and how they are guides but mainly signals meant to help sailors avoid the dangers of land; in historical cartography (mapmaking), kraken iconography was used to do the exact same thing. krakens on a map indicated dangerous waters (geographically, territorially, etc) that sailors were cautioned to either avoid or face the consequences, the only real difference between the two symbols being that the kraken is much more outwardly intimidating, whereas the lighthouse seems innocuous and even safe until you've crashed against the rocks do you see where im going with this

OHHH I just had a thought....ed keeps his silk in the inside pocket of his jacket. which means stede has probably seen it already before episode 5. when they swapped clothes. or if he hasn't seen it, he's felt it. when he wore ed's jacket he probably felt something inside the pocket over his heart. even if ed hasn't shown stede his heart yet..... he's felt it. it's already been pressed close against his. he's already given it over to stede from the very first time they meet, even if ed isn't ready to show it to him yet. fuck
