Sesame Street posting techniques for comforting children during traumatic world events feels so fucking dystopian but here are the slides they posted just in case you or a loved one has any little critters at home right now
No one is doing well right now, but being a little critter right now has got to be terrifying. This is such a crushing series of images, especially considering PBSâs funding got slashed. While Iâm happy Sesame Street continues to keep the wellbeing and education of children as a major priority, thereâs a certain amount of innocence that Sesame Street represents and this is giving me such a visceral feeling rn
sesame street has been meeting kids where they were at since the 70s, and in the 70s, POC kids were in some pretty scary places. what contemporary white parents might perceive as a sudden dystopian horror is, sadly, the level of trauma, violence, insecurity, and fear that a lot of non-white families have had to navigate for generations. it has always been hard and heartbreaking for some families to try to protect their kids from knowing how dangerous the world is and how much some parts of it want them dead. now it's white parents time to join in that important work. i don't meant to scold, but i want to remind: generations of kids have taken much-needed messages of comfort and solace from sesame street, and the people there have always known, since the start, how much we need bravery and compassion. it's not about innocence and it's not about ignorance: it's about love. this is their entire mission, and they're staying strong. we can too.
Just so people know, epilepsy warnings arenât about, like, purity culture, or online leftists acting as if disabled people are real. Itâs about my mom
We human beings have discovered patterns of light and/or sound that kill some people and we should probably not have hissy fits about your right to fire a weapon at my mom. Like if you could put some text onscreen explaining the upcoming seizure-inducing patterns so that people can scroll away. Thatâs super fucking easy. i AM sorry that something as mindless as a tiktok edit could kill someone but hey, so could driving to work every morning, we all treat THAT accordingly (long, pointed stare. because yes we had better be treating that accordingly too)
The casual abundance of Thing That Kills People doesnât mean you shouldnât avoid killing people
#all media should have epilepsy warnings like all food should have allergy warnings#and if you disagree then I'll kick your ass

the genocide of indigenous americans was so massive and brutal and rapid that the decrease in carbon dioxide production by the population of the earth shrinking that much that quickly caused a minor fucking ice age. you people have no fucking shame.
European settlement of the Americas killed so many people, it disturbed Earth's climate.
If you rightly have a violent opposition to the genocide of Palestinians and the settler-colonial project of the Zionist Entity, I expect you to keep that same energy for one of the largest ongoing genocidal settler projects* in human history. There is no "redemption" of the US, no amount of "progressive domestic politics" will ever erase the blood that bore this "nation." United States Delenda Est! çŸćœć»æ»!!!

every day I learn bot comments on ao3 are stooping lower and lower
anyway if you get a comment like this, chances are that they are bot and their goal is to do whatever it takes to get you to delete your work, most certainly (from what Iâve heard) itâs because they want to âsafelyâ steal your work, use it to train their ai without you being able to rightfully claim ownership of your work since âthereâs no proof that the work was stolen/was posted elsewhere first by youâ because the original source has already been deleted.
THEY ARE ALL BOTS. at first it was âao3 is deleting fics and your entire account will be affected unless you delete the fics yourselfâ then it was âthis work contains contents that are illegal and they have already reported you and your fic to the policeâ (yes, thatâs how desperate these bots are), and now itâs this.
report their comments to ao3 for spamâin this case, specifically, I think you may be able to report them for harassment tooâand donât pay attention to them, most importantly donât delete your works, donât feel discouraged by their comments. remember that they are bots and they mass comment something like this on peopleâs works at random to get people to delete their works. (or even if theyâre not bot, they are still pathetic bullies who donât deserve your time or attention.)

please explain iago. please.
growing up, I always wanted to be a little bratty bird getting homoerotically abused by a sorcerer. but if you ever read Sir Cameron, please forget I said this. I definitely did not include that vulture scenes because I sexually imprinted on Iago from Aladdin. that would be insane
before you burn me at the stake! you have to admit there was something going on here
my mom said that she doesnât look at my tumblr anymore because my posts âworry herâ, so Iâm free to say this btw
About 10 years ago a person named Devon Marie Machuca (aka Ender Darling) was arrested for stealing (and selling) human remains from a Black majority cemetery in New Orleans. They would end up serving 2 months.
Holt Cemetery is what's called a potter's field. It is a cemetery that caters to the poorest of the poor, people whose families are unable to pay for the burial of their loved ones. This cemetery is in use today, and the majority of people buried there are impoverished Black people.
Desecrating Black corpses is not funny. Selling pieces of deceased human beings is not funny. I understand that this story is a piece of tumblr lore, but this is not a hee ha silly story. Those were real human beings. People with family and friends who mourned their deaths. People who were too poor to be buried anywhere else, and were instead brought to Holt Cemetery.
Have some respect for the way you talk about the deceased. You and I both know that if this person stole remains from some frufru white cemetery that the reaction would be very different.
Act better.
While I'm being mad at tumblr whites
People freezing to death in the streets is social murder. LGBTQ+ youth committing suicide due to familial abuse and oppression is social murder. First Nations being on boil water advisories for decades is social murder.
Sorry about your blog though.
"ohh 00s diet culture isn't back because of ozempic, you're overreacting"
idk i keep seeing previously size-inclusive brands remove plus-sized versions of their clothes from their catalogues entirely, even lines specifically aimed at bigger sizes are cutting their size range down and chopping the bigger ones. i keep seeing mean skinny tiktokers get famous because they said something rude about fat people. when i ask my doctor about weight loss (which my country's gender treatment clinic requires before i can access even preliminary talks about hrt), i'm immediately offered drugs about it - drugs which, according to the doctor, we don't know the long-term effects of. but surely! surely it can't be worse than being fat!
like why are people acting surprised? we've made being extremely wealthy the aspirational aesthetic to strive for, made 'being skinny and having a lot of time and money to stay beautiful' a not only viable but lucrative carreer for people, and then released a drug that is wildly expensive and will make people thin.
of course people are gonna make being thin the ultimate status symbol again - it more than ever before signals wealth and leisure-time.
like, do you think it's a coincidence that people are back to constantly spouting 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' again? and pretending being fat is a matter of lacking self-control around cake or whatever? as if people haven't spent decades trying to get these fucks to understand that actually healthy produce and the time to maintain your body are extreme luxuries in our society?
anyway my broke fat ass can't find pants i like and can afford because the size-inclusive lines i'd have shopped at previously have axed anything over a size xl
and like. i'm not even that fat. what the fuck do people bigger than me do. it's really heinous right now for fat peeps.
even growing up in a majority non-white neighbourhood with a mum who used to live in india meant that my safe foods growing up were palak paneer and mango lassi. and, unrelatedly, my biggest sensory trigger was meat, particularly processed meats like. say. chicken nuggets. the thing about autism is that things are safe because theyâre familiar, theyâre consistent, and theyâre reliable. and all of those things are soo contextual. I donât really. understand. how anyone could think that only one category of anything (but especially food) could be Universally Safe unless they somehow forget that the universe includes people who arenât them đ€ crazy
had a funny interaction with a customer earlier and i think it would be best told in green text format
>be me
>28, generally seen as younger but by how much ranges.
>trans man. especially anxious about passing and my body today because a house mate threw all my binders into the wash and by the time i realized what was happening i had to go to work, binders are soaked, and so i have to get creative with layering and a friends sports bra quick
>work at a burger place, cashier today
>customer is chatting my ear off
>she tells a story about realizing her daughter was pregnant when she was here with her years ago bc she was craving pickles
>me: "oh yeah. my girlfriend gets estrogen shots sometimes and it causes her to crave pickles too."
>i don't actually remember if the pickle craving thing is true. sometimes i fabricate incorrect details of memories without realizing it and sometimes i lie to strangers for fun. i don't remember which happened here.
>woman's eyes grow wide
>her: "if she's getting estrogen shots then i suppose she's not going to get pregnant at any point"
>me: "yeah, no, it'd be a miracle if she got pregnant. i'd be pretty shocked."
>her, genuinely confused and perhaps concerned: "you look really young to have a girlfriend on estrogen. don't you want a family?"
>me: O_O ??????
>realize she thinks my trans girlfriend is postmenopausal and that i'm her significantly younger cis male boytoy
okay now I'm trying to think up a dedication for the book
I canât believe they let me do this
funniest convo ever with a guy who said 2 me "nobody uses journalism degrees" and i said "my mom has a bachelors in journalism" and he smiled like knowingly and said "yeah, but what does she do?" and i said "she runs a newspaper and publishes romance novels on the side." and he literally said "oh" and nothing else. like he ended the whole conversation there.
i've just been informed he has a trombone degree. like the study of playing trombone. which is all well and good, i genuinely think we should all have the opportunity to chase our academic bliss but i do think the trombone studies guy should hesitate to judge the economic value of other people's degrees no

Tuira KayapĂł brandished her machete in the face of a government official who was trying to convince indigenous leaders to accept a mega-dam project in the Amazon, 1989
âElectricity wonât give us food. We need the rivers to flow freely. Donât talk to us about relieving our âpovertyâ â we are the richest people in Brazil. We are Indians.â
part of kayapĂłâs speech during this event
also! sheâs still alive! that sort of thing is always worth pointing out to show that we really arenât too far removed from events like this! hereâs a 2019 photo of her:
I just checked, she passed away in August 2024 - but not before working with a filmmaker to make an hour long movie where she explains her life and her activism. If you want to hear what she has to say for herself, hereâs the opportunity.
Movie is âTuire KayapĂłâ (First Contact) by Pınar Yolaçan, in case the link breaks
