Welcome to the Ranger Gathering, coming August 2025!

Despite how quiet this account has been this year, the Gathering is still being held! We invite you to take a look at the prompts below.

How it works:

The Ranger Gathering will run for the entire the month of August, 2025. Each day has a prompt that participants can use to inspire works about Ranger's Apprentice, The Early Years, The Royal Ranger, or Brotherband.

A few notes on the Gathering:

You do NOT have to do all the prompts, or even most of the prompts to participate in the Gathering! The most important thing is to have fun and avoid burnout. Pick whichever prompts inspire your creativity, and ignore the rest.

The Gathering is meant to show off all forms of creativity! This means art, music, writing, memes, textpost, moodboards, playlists, or whatever else you can come up with. Don't feel like you can't participate if you're not an artist or author.

Sometimes i still cant wrap my head around the fact that rangers have this fucked up ritual of having their apprentices go through the being yeeted off horseback. Its like (un)natural selection ranger corps edition.

I imagine some ranger, 70+, retiring after long service in peaceful fief, looking back in memories and realizing that most dangerous things that happened to him was getting yeeted of his horse and being approximately 23rd person at Gathering asking Halt why his apprentice has a sword.

I feel like, in a modern AU Halt would be that scary neighbor that everyone is afraid of. The neighborhood kids would dare each other to run up to his house and touch it, or to grab a stray ball that rolled into his yard on accident. They would all run and hide when he comes out to mow his lawn or tend his garden (because of course he has the most stunning flowers in the neighborhood), and they'd peep through holes in the fences when he's in his back yard. The mean kids in the neighborhood scare the young ones with made up stories of how he's a vampire, or some sort of monster, or how he'll eat them if they take one step onto his lawn.

But he's also the kind of person the neighborhood kid's parents tell their kids to run to if there was a break in or something, because everybody knows Halt is gonna grab the biggest wrench he can find, or his Glock, and just March across the street and completely mop the floor with the intruders. He's the kind of guy that girls would ask to escort them home because they're uncomfortable or feel they're being followed. He's the kind of guy lost kids come cry to at the mall, looking for their parents. He's the kind of guy who comforts people on planes who are scared of flying. He's the kind of guy who listens when you need someone to talk to, to cry on.

Yeah, he's scary. But he can be nice if the need arises.

I love that in most Ranger's Apprentice fanfics, they describe Halt with "the grim Ranger", Gilan as "the tall Ranger", Crowley as "the redheaded Ranger" and Will is just Will.

- horace, a second year battleschool student, growing such a reputation for himself in gallica that a literal warlord comes out and challenges him

- horace being discovered as a natural by sir rodney

- when trobar goes after john buttle for his treatment of shadow?? excellent

- the scene where will and horace are under the cart in siege of macindaw

- shukin stands alone against arisaka and his entire army to give shigeru time to escape
