And talk... Rupert really loved that tiny alien, didn’t he? At those moments they really seemed like a happy family - and they were, perhaps, aside from Rupert’s cheating. Them raising this child together made Rupert really wonder what made their bond so special. He just couldn’t find a way to reconcile it with his need to find sources of excitement elsewhere as he still kept in touch with his lovers. He still thought of Hayden longingly.

While Rupert taught Ciel how to walk.

Jill helped out with Ciel, too, waking up at night to potty train him or help him go back to sleep. She really grew to like this child quite a lot, even love him, even though they were not related by blood.

And this is what Ciel looked like! Despite his rather unique appearance and alien origins, he was just a normal baby.

Ciel celebrated his Birthday! And got a better nursery for all the money his parents were making.

Rupert would also spend some time in Aspirational Labs after work. He was almost never alone at home, but here he could get some solitutude (alternatively, he’d meet people other than his wife here) and recharge.

At least Rupert didn’t lose any of his skills while on paternal leave.

Because Rupert’s parental leave couldn’t last forever, he and Jill decided to hire a nanny to help with taking care of Ciel while they both were gone.

After getting used to the fact that he was abducted, Rupert continued looking at stars through the telescope, morbidly fascinated by his predicament.

Rupert was not willing to learn, however. He asked Hayden for forgiveness, secretly feeling as if they were still together.

This didn’t go completely unpunished.

“You never think about the consequences of what you are doing! I know damn well what this ring on your finger means. Which one was it? How many people are you leading on?“

Hayden was right, just as always.

After some thinking Rupert realised that wearing a ring meant only that - the privilege of  living together and sharing funds, raising a child. But he couldn’t stay faithful even for a second because he never was in the first place.

Despite Ciel’s dark origins, Rupert grew to love him a lot. He had this instinct and need to protect this child. Jill helped him take care of the child, too, although with her stressful job, Rupert ended up being the one taking the parental leave and putting his career on pause. He was surprised, but this arrangment proved itself to be efficient and not as bad, really. There was more to life than being an architect after all.

This lifestyle was going on for quite some time until the alien baby was finally born. Rupert named him Ciel, and in that name his grim origin was hidden.

Thankfully, Rupert did not feel as sick after drinking the medicine he purchased. Hence the endless house chores.

As an intermezzo between the scheduled posts, I offer a picture of Jill, who used to be a townie. I really like how she turned out.

In fact, with Jill getting a new job, he ended up being the more home-oriented one. That was frustrating that Jill never cleaned the dishes after herself and showed no interest in helping around the house - one could see that as retribution for trying to marry her for at least partially practical reasons. She did, however, help him out financially and was willing to help raising the child, which was great. That was not as if Rupert didn’t love her, though - but perhaps he never thought of any deeper consequences of putting on a ring and moving in together.
