As someone guilty of getting angry at Q-Taro for not pressing the button the first time I played, my new take is that it’s perfectly understandable that he struggled to push the button.
Q-Taro didn’t know there was an antidote in the medical office. In his eyes, pressing the switch meant he’d likely die. It’s easy to say that he should’ve been selfless and saved Gin because he’s a child, but Gin’s age doesn’t mean that Q-Taro lost all reason to live.
He had things he wanted to do. He wanted to go back to the kids at the orphanage and give them hope. He wanted to play baseball after selling his life to ASU-NARO to achieve his dream. It’s selfish, sure, but it’s a big ask to expect someone to die for a child they meet a week ago.
