HE SHOULD NOT GET AWAY WITH THIS
GO 👏 THE 👏 FUCK 👏 OFF. Also, the American educational system is trash. I applaud this child’s parents for giving her a voice and standing up against bias authority.
(Can someone caption this?)
Classroom full of mostly black and brown students:
Black student: [unintelligible—and then] …and then throwing everything away beneath it because it doesn’t pertain to you. I’m sorry —
White teacher: —you know what, I’m sorry -I’m sorry…
Black student: —No, no, no…I let you talk -I let you talk, you’re gonna let me talk.
[Other students gasps]
White student: Go ahead. Finish.
Black student: I’m sorry that this is the way that it is. You’re right, it is fucked up. But white people control everything…and that’s not fair. And when anybody, any other minority tries to say anything about it or change it, we’re complaining or we’re ungrateful or all this other stuff because we still have this or that. But then you say something about ‘Oh, I don’t want—there’s too many Latinos and there’s too many—’
White teacher: I didn’t say that—
[Various students disagree]
White teacher: I said I want to control the border!
Black student: You said you don’t want this to turn into a Latin country because there’ll be too many
White teacher: I did not say that.
[Various students disagree]
Student 2: You said you want to preserve the American culture.
Black student: There is no American culture. American culture is EVERYTHING.
[Various students agree]
Random: Mayonnaise!
[Students laugh]
Black student: And because you are white and so closed-minded, you refuse to accept that, you refuse to accept—
White teacher: Don’t tell me I’m closed-minded—
Black student: Everything you’ve said to me is closed-minded.
White teacher: Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean I’m closed-minded.
Black student: You don’t need to agree—I -I’ve had conversations with people that don’t agree with me, but if they at least listen and try to accept—you’re not accepting the truth.
White teacher: Why do I have to accept what you think is right?
Black student: You need to accept the truth! Not what I think is right, what is actually happening right—
White teacher: Well, let me tell you what I think. You said white people have been in control of everything….who is the president of the United States right now?!
Students: A black man!
*Various sounds of incredulity*
Black student: WITH A WHITE CONGRESS! WITH A WHITE SENATE! WITH WHITE EVERYTHING ELSE! HE DOESN’T HAVE THE CONTROL OF EVERYTHING!
Random: GO OFF
Other Random: GO OFF–
*The class is in an uproar*
Random student: YOU ARE SO PRIVILEGED THAT YOU JUST DON’T SEE IT!
White teacher: Do we have to yell?!
Black student: Yes, because I’m mad.

Do NOT turn off your TVs on January 20th. Tune in to other channels so it’ll make it seem like we’re simply ignoring/boycotting trump’s inauguration. I refuse to let that orange puffturd be on my precious TV for more than 2 seconds.

If tomorrow...
If tomorrow someone you love treats you poorly because of who you are, who you love, how you identify, or the things you believe in please remember, they are wrong. You are a person who deserves love the way you define it, you are beautiful in the person you are or are becoming, and you get to believe whatever you’d like and fight like hell for it.
Please don’t let tomorrow be the day you give up.
We have a fight on our hands for sure, and we need every warrior we can get.
I didn’t have time to finish Buffering but I did...
I didn’t have time to read a book right now. I’m preparing my students for a performance coming up this weekend. My wife went on a quick trip out of town for work. Our son is one and walking and cutting teeth, and generally a tiny tornado leaving a path of destruction behind him. I have grades that are due and I have a paper to write and yet I couldn’t put Buffering down.
It might be hyperbolic to say that it is the most important book I’ve read in years but I also think that it is 100% true. This book is important and poignant and shines a much needed light on so many issues that are swept under the rug in this country.
My parents were addicts, I’m gay, and while not in the same way Hannah described her fight for her mother, the system failed them, and my sisters and I. My grandmother tried but she couldn’t force help on them and once she died there was no one to save us. The state took us away only to give us back when things got moderately better, only to take us away again. A cycle that repeated until I was old enough to go to college and get myself out.
The last chapter hit me hard, and I hope it hits enough people hard enough that maybe just maybe, Hannah Hart becomes the little engine that could start the movement that helps change the system that is so completely broken.
Buffering is a true testament to a life spent loving and learning and trying harder than most people, the lucky ones, ever will. It is real and raw. It is coming to terms with who you are and failing and trying again until you get it right. It is about the purest form of love that is confusing and sometimes painful but never fades, no matter the circumstance.
Thank you Hannah for putting it all in to words that I often have looked for but could not find.

Can this be a new movie staring Kate McKinnon and Kathryn Hahn? I feel like this is the serious role that would win them Oscars while making me incredibly happy.

There is only one disappointing thing about Dirty 30.
Why the hell were we not all given the opportunity to play for the All Taints softball team? I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. I thought we were friends. @mydrunkkitchen @gracehelbig @mamrie
Seriously, where are the t-shirts?

This baby. Just sitting in his crib singing all the words he knows quietly to himself. Sort of to the tune of twinkle twinkle? He’s a nerd.

LYRICS...the little dude wrote new LYRICS for an old tune! He's a songwriter.
What do you do for the people you love?
LOL. This is the definition of enabler.
The worst part of Pride each year is riding the subway late at night and seeing the gay guys, mostly the ones riding by themselves, slowly take off their rainbow stickers and beads and what-not in preparation for their walk alone in their neighborhood, doing their best to prevent the off-chance of being jumped. I saw one guy with a flag in his bag turn it upside down so it wouldn’t poke out.
So yeah, fuck that heterosexual pride day nonsense.
This is the saddest god damn thing I’ve read in awhile, mostly because I literally remember peeling my stickers off on my way home too for this reason
Two years ago in Budapest the organizers didn’t let anyone leave the place until we dropped all the rainbow flags into the trash cans and popped out the balloons, because people were waiting outside the cordons to get and beat us. Sadly the situation was so bad that even without the flags, we couldn’t leave for a good two hours after the event anyway. There were hundreds of people just waiting to be able to get home safely, but we simply couldn’t walk out of the place because of those assholes. In the end, the police made us leave in smaller groups via subway. They closed down the stations closest to ours, so we could avoid running into the people waiting us outside. This was in Budapest, in Europe, 2014. I hate this world we live in.
And this is why #heterosexualpride makes me so angry.
I know this kid who was leaving Pride, trying so badly to rub off the rainbow paint on his cheek because his dad was abusive and didn’t know he was gay or at pride. I was on the bus with him and he was close to tears, he cheek red, and I had my make up bag and there was a packet of wet wipes, so I went up and sat next to him and helped him rub it off. We’ve been best friends ever since.
Heterosexual pride my ass
Congrats @mydrunkkitchen on your Davidson/Valentini Award from GLAAD. I think this mashup of your In The Closet audio with Imm El Jacket by Mashrou' Leila is much moving, v. cry.
