Learned how to extract pigments from leaves and flowers and various other things. As well as learning how to make essential oils in biology lab today. Science and magick go hand in hand.
TELL US HOW
Using isopropyl alcohol or ethanol put it in a heat safe container about 50-100 mL depending on how much pigment you want and how concentrated you want it to be. Once it starts to boil add your leaves or plants of any kind. I was told even pumpkin would work!
Then boil for about 10 minutes or longer til you get the color you want or til the color in the plant is gone/heavily faded. Make sure to not let the ethanol/alcohol burn dry.
That’s for pigments.
For essential oil he said fill a container with that much olive oil (more like 50ml for that one since it won’t burn dry) and boil your plants in it for about 5 minutes and then let the plant sit in the oil for 48 hours and then strain using like a cheesecloth or something so you don’t get any plant particles.
This is so cool and interesting! I wonder if different plants need different boiling times or more/less oil. For example, some plants have their oils right on the surface (like basil and rosemary), so I would imagine it would take less time to extract from them vs extracting from a plant that’s not as strong.
@witchthetics well for the essential oil yes, you would likely change it up per plant just a bit. For the pigments you wouldn’t use any oil. You need to use alcohol because it has to do with the polarity. :)
I waited patiently for my partner to come out of the doctors room. It had been a rough few months of him suffering with unexplained pelvic pain, renderin...
We have learned of the higher risks of cancer if a hysterectomy is not completed after five years of being on testosterone.
This is important. Read it. Especially if you have been on T for over or close to 5 years. I have felt these pains. Even just today. I have been on T for over 5 years.
Something I have learned and have tried to be less of afraid of as a trans person is that you need to put your physical health above your feelings of shame. If you’re having a serious medical concern you need to find a doctor you are comfortable with and talk to them. It’s not fun, it’s not easy to do, but it’s important for your health.

Can we bring this back? He’s the reason I started carrying knives everywhere… One time he saw me inside of a liquor store and I refused to step outside until he finally left.. AN HOUR LATER. He just stood there waiting for me to leave the store. Ugh. I’m glad I’m across the country from this creep.
Oh he also stopped by my work EVERYDAY to ask me out and EVERYDAY I would say “no thank you” it got to the point that whenever I saw his car pull up I would tell my boss and then go hide in the back room. He honestly terrified me.
Men are fucking terrifying, I once had some random dude stalk me at work because I smiled at him. … something you get in trouble for if you don’t do when in customer service!
what the actual fuck
Everytime a guy tries to describe himself to me as a nice guy and that i shouldn’t be afraid, my warning siren in my head gets louder.
protip, people who are actually nice, don’t usually feel the need to tell everyone how nice they are.
Tips That Can Save Your Kid’s Life.
THIS IS IMPORTANT
When I was a child, from the time I was about four and could understand things, my mom told me and my brother that we should have a secret word. That way, if we were ever in trouble or felt unsafe and we didn’t want the people around us to know we needed her to come get us, we could let her know. So she let us pick the word and my brother and I chose the phrase “peanut butter cups.” (I’m happy to share the phrase now since both my brother and I are adults now).
I used the phrase twice in my life. Once, I was at a friends house when I eight years old. Her dad got really drunk and was throwing things against the wall. I was really scared and I didn’t want to draw attention to myself on the phone when I called my mom to come get me because I didn’t know if he would get more violent if I asked her to come get me. So I called her and was calm and after a couple minutes I asked “Hey mommy, did you get me those peanut butter cups from the store?” And she said “I’ll be right there.” And she came and got me within minutes.
Second, I was a teenager spending the night at a friends house. Her brother and dad were drinking and they started talking about things that made me uncomfortable - ie: what they liked to do to women. My friend didn’t seem perturbed and said that was normal for them and that I shouldn’t worry. But I was worried because they were really drunk and I was 15 and the only ‘woman’ around that wasn’t related to them. I went in my friends room, told her I needed to call my mom and say goodnight. Before I hung up with her I asked “Next time we go to the store, can we get some peanut butters cups? I’ve been craving them.” And she came and got me, just like that.
Two incidents, one as a young child, one years later as a teen. Don’t discredit this stuff, it fucking works. My brother used it a few times too. Let your child pick the word and no never, ever, ever, ever get mad at them for using it no matter what it is.
DO NOT SCROLL PAST THAT.
My family used pass codes to know if a stranger was safe. When I was 7, a stranger tried to pick me up from school. Now, living in the sticks, no one tried to stop her. I asked her what the pass code was and she looked at me like I was crazy. She said it didn’t matter, that my dad said it was okay for her to get me, blah blah blah. I dug my heels in when she tried to pull me along and screamed. I was a loud child. Everyone stopped and looked at me. I was yelling random things, but focusing on how this woman was going to hurt me and all that stuff. Finally, the principal got me away. Teach your kids passcodes, man.
October can’t come soon enough
So, when my maternal grandmother died, we had to find loving, permanent homes for all five of her cats because otherwise she would have risen from the grave to kill the entire family. We took in Chloe because Chloe was my grandmother’s favorite, and she made my mom promise to look after her. Now my mother treats Chloe like her third child, and the cat is basically plastered to her 24/7 when she isn’t hiding from some imagined enemy like the dustbuster or my dad’s footsteps.
Anyway, we wound up giving the rest of the cats to this couple that runs a joint called Kitty Korner. They try to find loving homes for all the cats they take in, but will care for the unadoptables (read: assholes) for the rest of their lives. That’s great, because one of the cats we gave to these poor women was Tobey. I have no idea why my grandmother ever adopted Tobey. He was a huge schmuck. The most handsome orange tomcat you ever saw, and he loved to crawl in your lap. But if you ever tried to touch him, he would switch immediately into Kill Mode and you could say goodbye to your hand. Needless to say, having him in your lap was awkward. It was like holding a bomb.
Kitty Korner sends us detailed letters every year to give us updates on how Tobey’s doing. Basically, they are status reports on how much of a douche Tobey is and continues to be. These women are saints. I guess they really like cats, because these letters are like a full page of single-spaced text. But more or less, they amount to:
2003: Tobey has a real colorful personality! But, uh, we don’t think he’s suited for adoption yet
2004: Nope, still not suited for adoption
2005: I think this is pretty much a lost cause
2006: WTF
2007: Tobey is trying to kill us and every other cat in the house
2008: Tobey is still trying to kill us and every other cat in the house
2009: Tobey is a vicious dictator and can only find pleasure in the subjugation of other organisms
BUT!!!! The past few years, Tobey has apparently been making steady improvement. And in our most recent letter, we have been informed that he is no longer doing things like venturing upstairs expressly to beat the living shit out of the other cats at Kitty Korner. He will also let you pet him, and when he’s had enough he’ll give a warning nip instead of removing your limb. In fact, Tobey, at a ripe old age of 14, is ready for a new home! With an experienced cat owner, comes the necessary caveat, and like… no kids. At all. Ever. Or other cats, probably. But at least he’s no longer a psychopath.
WE GOT ANOTHER LETTER FROM KITTY KORNER AND WE THOUGHT TOBEY HAD FINALLY KICKED THE BUCKET BUT IN FACT HE HAS FOUND A NEW HOME, AT AGE 16, WITH AN ELDERLY MAN WHO RECENTLY LOST HIS OWN CAT.
I MAY CRY.
2/1/2016: old man Tobey still loving his forever home :’)
Amazing
The adoption story to end all adoption stories. Hey, does Kitty Korner have a Kickstarter anywhere?
The outpouring of love for this post is amazing! I’m going to cry at the office.
They do not have a Kickstarter, however, as a no-kill foster home run exclusively through volunteer work, they always welcome donations and you also have the ability to sponsor a cat. You’ll get detailed photos and status reports on your kitty, and should he or she get a happy ending like Tobey, you’ll be the first to know!
My grandmother was a card-carrying crazy cat lady until the day she died, and she was a big supporter of Kitty Corner. The women who run it are as devoted to rescue animals as she was her entire life. Wherever she is now, she’d be humbled to know just how many people were touched by Tobey’s comeback story.
I’m not crying, you are… 😭😭😭
I have recently become aware of the existence of a knitting fandom on this website and wanted to make a contribution
This is brilliant and should be brought to schools everywhere (x)

Good to see Baltimore on here for something good for once.
This needs to be in schools EVERYWHERE!!! I can’t tell you how many sententious and suspensions are given to children of color which does absolutely nothing but makes the situation worse. This is a great alternative!
George Takei was so excited to do this shirtless episode. He spent all his free time doing push-ups for a week before they shot this.
they were going to give him a katana and have him be a samurai, but he didn’t want to be stereotypical, so he told the execs that he could fence and they wrote in references to the three musketeers instead
he could not, in fact, fence
he spent the weekend before shooting learning how
Not only that, but he found he liked fencing, kept it up, and became a master fencer.
When I had the privilege to hear him talk at AwesomeCon 2015, he informed us he is a master fencer. It was a very clear implication that he is still fencing at his advanced age. No wonder he’s so healthy.
He had far too much fun with this episode and it shows.

Just curious, what's company policy for either Jewish or Roma agents to go down to R&D pick up a few odds and ends and then head over to containment to spend some quality time with the captured hydra goons?
The policy is the same regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or historical context; We Do Not Torture Captives.
I do not agree with this.
Holy crap am I so sold on this ship.
Hurricane Matthew
Alright, listen up y’all. I don’t know who’s talking about this but we need to.
This is a serious storm.
This post is mainly focused on the US southeast coast from Miami to NYC.
However, there’s a chance the storm might turn to the west upon hitting Florida. Regardless, first thing is first.
At least have one source of a Hurricane Matthew watch on when you can. Try to learn about the current state of the storm and use that to appropriately make a decision. Whether it is to hold tight or evacuate, do what works best for you.
Learn the predicted times the storm will come to you. Florida will be breached at Thursday Evening.
Make sure all valuables and all documents are packed up and locked in a waterproof source or on a elevated level. This means any vaccination records, birth certificates, etc along side any desktops, laptops, things that have important documents are properly hidden or locked away where they cannot get wet or unaffected by the storm. Waterproof boxes are one option.
Stock up on supplies and expect a power outage. Especially in Florida, plan accordingly. 3 days worth of supplies are the best way to start. If you have any freezer goods or perishables like milk, use them now or throw them out. Stock up on things such as:
Canned Goods
Bottle Water
Bread
Powerdered Milk
Portable Chargers (keep your cellphone charged!!!)
Batteries
Flashlights
Generators
Paper Towels/Plates
Toilet Paper (but don’t expect to use it for a toilet if water is cut off)
First Aid Kits + Medicine
Candles + Lighters
Blankets + Bedding for people who will come to you for shelter
Fuel if you must leave
KEEP YOUR PHONE CHARGED AT ALL TIME. I cannot stress this enough. Your phone may be the only source of contact at this time and you need to keep your phone ready in case of emergency.
If you’re going to evacuate, do it now. Leave on a full tank of gas. Don’t wait because traffic is gonna be bad and you don’t wanna get caught up in it. Especially with Lane Reversals.
Tell your neighbors/coworkers/friends/family. Keep them informed and get them and get them ready in case you’re coming to them or if they’re not ready or prepared.
If you have any other tips, please tack them on and Please, Please reblog this.
