I couldn’t really find anything that I thought was appropiate [for Rachel’s last song] so, the fact that Darren came up with something was so perfect. It was an honor to sing his song, it’s so beautiful! And it really, also, perfectly describes —as to the best ability— 6 and a half years in 1 song and this closing moment. And I— we cried, I mean, we couldn’t even look at each other. I was singing this song, I fell to my knees and we had to cut… I was so emotional. And he was there and he came over to me, and he was like ‘I can’t even look at you.’ And we just like… it was so special. I love him, he’s one of my dearest friends, so it was a great opportunity and moment.

I like the contrast between light and dark. In the scene with Kurt, it’s night time, and Blaine (wearing dark blue) acts on his feelings, only to feel confused by them. But after the conversation with Dave (which takes place in their apartment, where it’s day and everything is bright yellow and rainbows), Blaine’s clear-headed, even if he’s just about to be heartbroken again.

Wow.

It’s so striking to have these two gifs side by side. Because Blaine looks shattered in the first one. He is completely frozen, his mouth forming no as he watches Kurt walk away and his eyes are desperate. He is devastated. In the second gif, he is sad and hurting but his world isn’t caving in on him. It hurts, but he is not broken. The light in his eyes remains and he looks like he’s working through what happened. The first is a Blaine who didn’t know how to breathe without Kurt and who needs Kurt to anchor him. The second is a Blaine who knows how to live and go on without Kurt, and who is his own anchor. He wants Kurt but he can make it without him. He is secure in his ability to do so.

Kurt Hummel walks away from Blaine Anderson, and Blaine is left standing on his own two feet. He doesn’t freeze. He doesn’t collapse. He doesn’t break. And he does it alone.

And I’m so in love with that.
