While it seemed like we were entering an era of old-internet revival and indie websites in the fight against the dead-internet, a significant road block has emerged. Prices have inflated drastically for server parts, memory, storage, and server-hosting itself. This puts all non-profit online communities in peril.
As a result, the site owner has opened a Patreon so that the community can help cover the costs of keeping us online.
Important clarification:
The NRaas mods are NEVER going to be paywalled.
The project will remain open-source and free for everyone. Donations are optional.
These mods are still in active development!
The site and mods have been maintained by Chain_Reaction since Twallan's retirement, providing countless updates and support. Lots of cool stuff over there if you haven't updated in a hot minute.
There is no pressure to donate if your situation does not allow for it. Thank you for the consideration!
Long post ahead with information on the situation and some incentives for reaching membership goals.
If you've had some trouble accessing the site over the past week or so:
The situation is directly caused by the greed and encroachment of something we’re all uncomfortably familiar with: AI companies and the companies investing in them (of simmer relevance, that includes EA and Krafton (InZoi)).
NRaas is not the first nor will it be the last to be affected. Website servers already suffer from bots trawling and scraping their content – including your content that you write and share just about anywhere. Now they’re being bought off entirely.
Archives and file-hosting are at high risk. Myrient is a recent example of an archive that went offline for this very reason.
It can feel a bit grim, but I want to assure you that the burden isn't yours to bear as an individual. As a community, it's actually quite easy to become hostile - and more important, unprofitable - to these invasive species as it were.
The past 26 years of modding and storytelling was OVERWHELMINGLY built upon free software, non-profit websites, and shared resources. A few unscrupulous paywallers and corporate greed isn't going to rewrite that history. Greed is the minority - but it does try to eat everything in its path.
That's all I ask - if you enjoy the fruits of The Sims community or enjoy being a part of it, make it just a little more inconvenient to swallow us.
Do not tolerate GenAI in our community spaces.
Do not support EA or Krafton. Let obscurity and irrelevancy devour them.
Do participate in the community wherever you think you'd find a little piece of purpose - make a blog for your stories, come chat with us in the Chatterbox forum at NRaas, make your first mod.
Lastly:
In a separate post, I'll be posting some CC incentives that will be released as milestones are reached. This content will not be paywalled - it will be posted for free as thanks to the community.
This is being offered on my own accord and is not the official reward for any particular tier. None of the proceeds are going to me!

After some slight struggles Cassidy and Benjamin had their first child, Little Miss Winnie Schmidt (if you know you know).
The randomised trait roll came out with Equestrian and Social Butterfly so we might already be looking at our gen 2 heir but lets see how things go teehee.
Oh by the way Cassidy already completed her lifetime wish by Autumn and is level 8 gardening so its time to get cracking on the kids and fishing.

Cassidy married Benjamin Schmidt and is now working on updating the ranch. Also guys don't kill me but I did slightly cheat for money but only as story progression gave him loads of roomates which would have not reflected the cash he would have got for selling his house (we need the money for winter oops).
So I've decided to start my own play-through of family ties with our tradwife to be Cassidy Wilkes and her horse Orion which has already been nearly taken away 3 times
I've loved @sojutrait and their style of gameplay for the Sims 4 for years now, but I can never get past two generations in that game, and for any long play legacies, I always end up back at the Sims 3. So I thought why not adapt the challenge for us who insist that we are still pre-teens in the early 2010’s!

This challenge is all about storytelling mixed with gameplay. The rules and challenges are a checklist, but you’re encouraged to come up with how the family gets there. I've had to make a few tweaks here and there, but especially for the last few generations to make it logical in the Sims 3.
Things are a little different with worlds in the Sims 3 so as long as the gen doesn’t require any particular world features (like gen 2 and 3 with the film studio and city typing) or rabbit holes do what feels best for you
I’ve tweaked certain things for my own preferences, like avoiding uni on some gens as the degrees don’t quite match up for the Sims 3, and gen 12 seems pretty tricky without heavy mods that I don’t even think exist but who knows what the game will be like after playing 12 generations and what mods might be added

HI ! so here's a legacy challenge i made! it's a mix of storytelling and exploring a bunch of different gameplay features idk, man i've been enjoying it
its 12 generations
theres no occult features built in bc im a boring realistic player but im sure you can do these with a vampire or a fairy or something. the world is your oyster
***there is mention of 18+ mods!! (ww and basemental)*** they are absolutely not required but i'm a freak so i included it for my fellow freaks

So I've finally figured out how to optomise my crappy laptop I got for free 5 years ago from my uni with no storage to support pretty much all Sims games and packs (don't ask me how) by creating links to my mods via my external SSD and want to start posting my gameplay again.
TBH most of it will be TS3 gameplay for now with a few build screenshots from TS4 for now even though my current save is on fire.
Don't expect reshade screenshots as I cannot be bothered to reinstall.
Dirk took Lilith on a date to the arcade where they ate each other's faces the whole time, got a part-time job in the adventurer career, and Darren painted some more
I'm back at it after my little hiatus due to work and the holidays with the Dreamer's.
In all honesty (and with no offence to all of my Dreamer stans) I always find Darren's gameplay a bit meh in The Sims 2, partly due to being a broke writer myself, but mostly for the fact he doesn't live in that sick ass mid-century mansion like in Lucky Palms.
I'm trying to go for a different approach this playthrough though, so if anyone has any suggestions please fire them my way.
This idea came on super suddenly, but I wanted it so much I kept trying at it until I got it. It wouldn't have been possible without @loonyjelly helping me create the recolorable default file, as my attempts had me crashing the game lol.
The mesh and base textures are the work of mohd14 on MTS.
All I did was edit the Motorola brand name, the screen/UI, and the letters on the numpad so that they would be in simlish. Mohd14 made 9 colors of the Motorola Razr V3, so those 9 are included, plus I set up a PSD file for easy recolors, so there's a 10th recolor included that I made (the red one).
In addition to the PSD, I've also included transparent PNGs of all 10 recolors. The transparent part is the wallpaper/background on the phone screens (front & back), so you can add in any picture you want with the little network/battery/UI symbols remaining where they are!

it makes me physically ill. a Palestinian on twitter's last post was about burying their six-year-old cousin without his head. a Palestinian boy on youtube dreamt of 100k subscribers on his gaming channel. and yesterday he reached 500k, but he has been killed in the bombing of the gaza strip. the class of 2023-24 in Palestine has ended early because there are not enough students left alive. literal children who were the teachers, artists, doctors, scientists, scholars, writers, engineers of tomorrow.
when is it enough? statistics released by Palestinian officials about the numbers of martyred isn't enough. photographs and videos of fathers scurrying to piece together their children by gathering their body parts isn't enough. presscons surrounded by dead bodies beside a bombed hospital isn't enough.
yet, somehow, the narrative they are pushing is conflict between two faiths. it is absolutely not. this is no religious conflict. this is colonization, occupation, genocide. it's systematic oppression of Palestine and its people.
the word peace has never angered me as much as it has now. and it should anger you too. there can be no peace under violent oppression. there can be no peace after 75 years of ethnic cleansing. there can be no peace in occupied Palestine.
peace is the product of white supremacy, they prod and kill anyone other than them but when retaliation occurs, it is suddenly rabid savages, unjust savages...
