I love youtube off-grid/homesteading videos because they're always like "living the simple life" and then depict a life ten times more complicated than mine
yo get off your ass i need you to come up front and call a customer the f slur for me i cant reclaim it
Good news: if you’re currently laying around and not producing anything, you are a credit to your species.
It’s recently been found that even hive insects rest. Bees will play with colorful toys. Ants sleep for about 1 minute but they do it so frequently it amounts to a few hours per day. Even trees take breaks.
The only things that work without rest are machines; literally everything that lives requires rest.
EVERYTHING THAT LIVES REQUIRES REST. STOP JUDGING YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING A ROBOT.
robots require very frequent breaks! welding machines generally have it programmed in that they can’t run so long they melt themselves. ive overseen two different manufacturing robots now and each of them were fragile, finicky idiots that require constant maintenance and repair. they pause in between moves, in between jobs. you’re always keeping an eye on programming errors, on coolant levels, on heat. you’re always pulling bits of scrap out of joints, sweeping up debris, washing off nozzles and untangling hoses. and even then it snaps a chain and takes a whole morning’s vacation.
even robots need downtime.
some people like to get mad at disability benefits because they think its unfair people who dont work get a payout from the government while they have to work 50 hours at the human suffering factory every week. but if you tell them "yeah that sucks i think you should also get a universal allowance and not have to work 50 hours at the human suffering factory every week" thats apparently the wrong answer.
i just got the "see where your blood has gone!" email from giving blood but it glitched and just showed me my current location. which. theyre not wrong. that is where most of my blood is
this is exactly how non kinsters sound when they jump into kink discussions to say "yeah! it's fine as long as you're all consenting adults!"

deriding things as performative is anti third space
im sitting on a patio at my favorite cafe rn and im hand stitching them hem of a dress im working on. and i can see why someone would say im being performative by working on something like this in a public space. but frankly theres no element of that. i just want to work somewhere that isnt my apartment. i want to be in public, i wanna chat with strangers, i wanna see the world. it’s nice to hang out somewhere that isnt my home!
what i mean is when you say people are being performative you discourage them from doing shit they love in public. and thats no way to foster the world we want to see.
To those who escaped abusive homes and are now the "evil child who refuses to see reason" because they are no contact with family, you deserve freedom. You deserve a life your family doesn't have access to. You aren't evil. You deserve love, peace, joy, and comfort. I am so proud of you.
Just saw my doctor type "FUCKED FOR LIFE" on my chart then he turned the screen away and stopped making eye contact with me
IDK I think if cis men are being told that being fat will lower their testosterone and make them Insufficiently Masculine, and cis women are being told that being fat will raise their testosterone and make them Excessively Masculine, and fat trans people are being denied the right to medically transition if they're fat, and thin trans people are warned against HRT because it will make them fat (and this is said about both testosterone and estrogen HRT), and androgynous-presenting people are told that only thin people count as androgynous...
Then maybe...
Maybe...
Maybe the weight loss industry is just using Gender to enforce fatphobia.
I remember my therapist telling me that I had a crisis of meaning that she attributed to my depression - that I won't do anyhing unless I have a very good reason to. I was very confused about what she meant by this. Doesn't everyone has a reason for doing something? People don't do stuff just because, there's always a point to their actions, some sort of motivation, even if they themselves don't know what that is. Right? Isn't this just common knowledge? Am I going insane?
Recently I found a name for what I suffer from - chronic fatigue, and I suddenly understood that my therapist meant.
I have so many things I need to do and so little capacity to do anything at all, that doing something that doesn't give me either immediate results (like showering -> getting clean) or absolutely guaranteed future results (like exercising regularly -> feeling better physically) is a waste of energy. When you live with such a condition, every action, even the smallest one, is always weighed on the scales of "what would it cost me" and "what would I get out of it".
But of course a professional would never believe a patient when they say "I just can't do it, I don't have the capacity". So there must be another reason for why I couldn't be productive, like loss of meaning and lack of interest caused by depression. As if wasn't constantly aware of how much I wanted things and how much they meant to me, exactly because I couldn't do them.
I had so much misunderstandings with this therapist, and it always baffled me, because from my point of view, I talked about very simple things that I said very plainly and openly. And now it dawned on me. It's not that she didn't understand very simple concepts like "motivation" and whatnot. She just didn't believe me. She was confused because she kept looking for the "truth" behind my condition and couldn't find any.
"It wasn't that she didn't understand what I was telling her, it was that she didn't believe me" is one of the best and most succinct summaries of bad therapy I've ever come across. Thank you.
another heavy handed symbolism moment: my mom has a potted sunflower in the kitchen. because it is a sunflower, it keeps turning towards the light from the window. my mother keeps rotating it so it faces inward because she wants "to see its beautiful petals and have it really brighten up the space!" . the sunflower is visibly wilting .
are you going to tell her or
her masters degree is in biology
STAR TREK - S2E1 Amok Time
I am tired of defensiveness and weird, mixed signals. Let's just get to the truth here, okay?
Buffy and Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 - 2003).
pop health science is so annoying bc it'll be like "did you know? eating strawberries will give you mega cancer" and you're like pfft whatever begone influencer. but sometimes then you'll see a reasonably credible article like "Study Shows Possible Link Between Strawberries and Mega Cancer" and you're not usually the type to follow that kind of thing religiously but idk maybe you should consider not eating strawberries? but then there's another article saying "Strawberry/Mega Cancer Study Debunked" and it turns out the original study had a sample size of 3 and was funded by Big Blueberry, and strawberries may have a small connection to mega cancer but only if you are genetically predisposed to mega cancer and eat 50 strawberries every day. so you return to your strawberry eating life. but whenever you eat strawberries in public someone tells you about the mega cancer.
you're also, like, thinking about it a little bit whenever you see one, and it's annoying because not only is it wrong but it's also taking up mental bandwidth and you can't delete net zero information at will
You’d think that once you finally get long term access to a cat and your yearning to have cat access is fulfilled that you’d become slightly less obsessed with seeing people’s cats but no if anything it gets worse
