What I really appreciate about Wei Wuxian's first meeting with Jin Ling is that Jin Ling says, "when I tell my uncle, you're dead!" he uses the word jiujiu, which is "mother's brother."

Coming from a culture that also uses different words depending who the uncle is connected with, and a mostly patriarchal society, it makes so much sense that Wei Wuxian laughed when Jin Ling asked, "Jiujiu? Why jiujiu and not your dad? Who's your jiujiu?" Seeing it through my cultural background goggles, why would a kid's first thought be to involve the maternal uncle in such a petty incident?? You're literally bringing in a person who's likely from a completely different place (sect) than you are. There's also the implied, "is your father/kin so useless you have to involve people from your mother's side?"

I was just discovering the xicheng ship, and read the fantastic “Under our Silver Bridge” by TheWanderingHeart in AO3 and inspired me so much that I did a little comic of one of the scenes. It may look that Jiang Cheng is friend zoning Lan XiChen, but NO! 😫 You need to read the fic.
