Hello! This post is a one-stop shop (?) post of my short intro and links to my WIPs. Might be updated from time to time.
𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙚
Welcome to my Writeblr! Where I post memes and bellyache about my most favorite thing in the world, which is writing. My name is Sofia, 21+, she/her. I have another intro here (where I basically say the same thing) and I write mostly fantasy stories and some poetry on the side.
General Content Warnings: mentions of death (in WIPs, mostly), violence (towards non-existing entities), foul words. Will fight tooth and nail to keep this writeblr at least R-16. Capital letters more often than not as testament to my feelings, excessive use of colloquial vernacular expressions like 'korique' (literally correct, means agreement or acknowledgement of fact) and 'eme' (means just kidding, kidding, it's a joke).
Not Okay with homophobics, terfs, and general hate speech purveyors. I can respect preferences but I do not tolerate bullying and prejudice.
A-Okay with writing tag games (even if we have never interacted!!), receiving random asks about my WIP, or you sharing things and tidbits about your WIP.

I. Forsaken Gods - Infographic Intro - PPT Intro
↺ urban YA fantasy, based on philippine mythologies
Seventeen-year-old Aya de Luna is familiar with the world’s cruelty. With her father estranged and her mother dead, it takes more than street-smarts to feed herself and her fifteen-year-old sickly brother. That is, until she witnesses a murder and acquires a weapon only heard of in legends that leads to her brother’s kidnapping.
In her mission to find him, Aya discovers a whole new world where the gods are as crazed as the monsters that live in it. Blood will be shed, secrets will be revealed, and all who seek power for themselves will be punished.
↺ YA middle fantasy, murder mystery, academia themes
The elusive Madam Quincy is said to have revolutionized education when she established the House of Royals-- a pillar of ambition, catered to train the world's next leaders.
However, scandals and controversies rattle the House of Royals' reputation with heirs dropping dead like flies, and no one can tell who the murderer--or murderers--is.
The deaths spark unrest among the kingdoms, and if the murders aren't solved soon, then the already precarious balance between two strong empires might be tipped--and the rest of the world along with it.

III. Dead Man Walking - PPT Intro
↺ NA fantasy, pirates and witches
Kosmos was once a great empire, split into three when power and greed forced men to rip the lands apart. Now three mighty kingdoms stand in its place, and yet remnants of the curses of the ancient empire still linger up to this day.
The exiled heir to a powerful bloodline, Nyx Asteria wants nothing to do with curses and ancient empires. All she wants is to remove the seal burning on her back that forces her magic to feed on her own veins and carry on quietly as the handmaiden to the Duke’s Daughter. Just as she’s getting used to her new job and identity, she becomes an offering to the pirate captain of the Shadow.
So Nyx does what she does best and bargains for her life, entering what is already a shaky agreement and turning it into a soul-binding contract. Never mind that she can’t even do magic without feeling like she’s dying. Never mind that she’s with a band of peculiar pirates, united by their own selfish goals. Never mind that their captain’s notoriety reaches the ends of worlds, bordering on legend at best and sounding like fabrications at worst.
Nyx knew, though. The first time she saw him, she knew he was just a Dead Man Walking.

I have decided to write a book! And I am writing it with intent to publish it someday. But I'm nervous because I'm chronically ill and I only have so much brain power on any given day and sometimes it's hardly any at all. So I just thought I'd do as others have done and ask for some encouraging words. Do you have any encouragement for a disabled writer with chronic brain fog?
As a fog-brained writer, the most encouraging thing I can tell you is that nobody ever has to read your first drafts. Nobody has to know that the two sentences they were reading were written days apart. Write on days you have a brain, edit on days you you have a different, less creative brain. You'll be fine. Just keep going.
y’all have like… actual visual images of your mutuals? I’m sorry but I 100% picture you as your icon. even if your icon is like, a candle. I assume you’re a sentient candle
happy blorbo blursday! let’s say your oc is in our modern world (if they aren’t already). what would they order when they walk into a coffee shop for the first time?
@rydykg
oh, oh, oh! I like this ask so much (not because I love cafes and coffee too much nuh-uh nope)
If it's Nyx, it's definitely gonna be Long Black or any plain coffee with as much espresso shots as the barista would allow. No milk, with the littlest sugar possible, and over ice.
Erebus will have matcha. Because he's cultured. With a splash of milk.
Valentine will get the most popular drink off the menu. Seneca is definitely a caramel macchiato girl through and through.
we see a ton of writing advice here in this corner of tumblr, and i know we do take them with a grain of salt, but what advice do you wish you can follow but particularly have difficulty doing so?
let me start!
For me, I like the advice of "using your own voice into your writing". This was one of the first few pieces of advice I came across when I first started to write seriously, and I know it's more applicable when writing personal essays, but I feel like it's harder to apply on short stories or novels. It requires getting into your character's head and writing it down in a way that makes the voice theirs but also still yours. More so if you've decided to use third-person.
I for one particularly enjoy written works that have distinct voices and personalities, which is probably why I also want to emulate it in my writing.
The problem is that I think my personality itself is too boring (affectionately) to have its own voice. This dilemma is one of the many reasons why I often get stuck in chapters, because "the words aren't coming out right" or what-not.
So, if you have time, what's yours? Feel free to tell me in the replies / asks / reblogs!
Trusting readers to interpret the characters correctly. I keep wanting to mediate and add more details to control the readers, which weighs down the whole process because I'm trying to micromanage what a nonexistent person would do. It's exhausting and unachievable. Hopefully getting beta readers will help me sort it out somewhat!
It's especially difficult because we're aware that we don't really have control over how our reader/s will perceive or interpret a character, but we still don't want anyone to misinterpret or misunderstand the character.
On the flip-side though, I guess it can also be viewed as something wonderful, that when we put out our writing out there, everyone else will understand, perceive, and relate it to their own experiences or culture or beliefs. It's really out of our control how the audiences will take it, or if they'll ride the same brain wave we had when we wrote it.
Like how artist's art are prone to be interpreted in so many different directions, some not even touching on their original reason/inspiration.
Just daydreaming about your stories or what you want to write truly is being productive despite what your brain demanding immediate results to and gratification from your productivity might tell you, like it lets you work through details, figure out what you want, rotate scenes around and change things up if you're still unsure about them, have a little fun without committing just quite yet, even if it's not being written down, it is being processed in your mind nonetheless and it is contributing to future productivity and the eventual endgame of wherever you want to be going with it all, even if you're not physically interacting with or creating or consuming something at the moment, you are creating thoughts, coming up with the blueprints, and maybe those blueprints won't always come to fruition, but maybe one day they'll help you build something great, or maybe they just brought you some joy or intrigue at the time and that's fine too, and etc, etc, so yeah, let yourself daydream more

⋆ Kendyleigh's world was ripped apart in a single night.
After being betrayed in the ugliest way possible, leaving her bloodied, frightened, and broken from grief, Kendyleigh fled into the night to get away from the people that wanted her nothing less than dead.
She had sworn to herself that she would never make the same mistake again— a mistake that exposed her most dangerous secret— but as she was hunted down by some of the most powerful people in the nation, she began to grow desperate. Fate placed her in the home of a witch, and for the first time in her life, she was offered a chance to exact her revenge on those who wronged her. Torn between the path of good and evil, Kendyleigh's decision was cemented when she was told there was a way to remove the curse that had plagued her life for centuries.
Now in over her head and blinded by rage, Kendyleigh has to figure out what kind of person she has become and what it means to trust people again.

Aion was always one step ahead. He had the money, he had the resources, and he had the motivation. His goals had never been out of reach, until he had set his sights on Kendyleigh.
She had been nearly unattainable for years, always somehow just on the edge of his radar. He had murdered her, and just as quickly he had brought her back to life, stuck to wander the Earth for eternity the same as him. He had wanted them to live their immortal lives together, but Kendyleigh had other plans.
He was hunting her down, year after year drawing nearer. It was only when she became aware of his presence that she was already in his grasp.
Now indebted to him, Kendyleigh is searching for anything that can help her escape.

⋆ Lochlan wasn't always a power-hungry king.
Fate met him in a smokey tent with three cards dancing between her fingers. She told him of his destiny, a path that he would follow and nothing in this world could change it.
He was doomed to walk the path between good and evil, blinded by his goals and not afraid of harming the people around him to make them happen. It was a destiny he didn't want, something that scared him and made him fear himself and the person he would become.
He was determined to change his fate.
And for a while, he thought he had succeeded.
Then, he was approached by a woman in a blue dress, and she handed him a rolled up scroll. It was littered in markings he didn't understand, with faded ink and a single photo of what seemed to be a staff. By the time he had glimpsed at it, the woman was gone.
Lochlan felt something inside of him shift. He couldn't explain it, but it was like someone had gripped his heart and pulled. Pulled in this unknown direction and wouldn't stop until he followed it.
He didn't want to hurt the people he loved, but what could he do to stop it?

⋆ Cassiopeia and Devereux's life fell apart after their parents were taken from them. The pair was found bloodied and bruised in the woods by a kitchen witch, who took them in and raised them as best as she could.
But, everything was different.
They were being hunted by a man who wanted to do nothing less than hurt them, and Devereux felt the only way he could protect his sister was by striking a deal with a demon that would make him stronger.
Now overgrown by power and greed, Devereux can't stop himself from hurting the people he loves.
Cassiopeia realizes that she is no longer safe with the very person who wanted to do nothing more than protect her, and she flees into the night with nothing but the clothes on her back.
But, running away won't stop a power-hungry wolf.

Jasper, a mer with a bright blue tail and a childish personality, instantly took a liking to the group of travelers on Circe's ship and invited himself along on their adventure.
Stories were shared, relationships were made, and futures were planned. Circe didn't realize he was falling in love until it was too late.

⋆ A Side Story in The Unbound Time Universe
⋆ When you've wandered the Earth for longer than you can remember, you tend to forget a few things.
Kendyleigh's learned the best way to battle this memory loss is by writing things down in a journal.
As long as no one gets their hands on this, her secret should remain intact.
Read as she silently makes her way through history, meeting historical figures along the way as she tries to navigate the ever-changing world around her.
⋆ The Other Place was a void full of forgotten people
Jack knew The Other Place well. It was empty; save for a few lingering faces. Overtime, you would forget things. Being stuck in an abyssal realm had that kind of effect on people. Eventually, you might even forget yourself.
But sometimes you would see things— things in the living world— and they would help you remember.
That's how Jack stumbled upon an old mansion in the woods. It was seemingly ordinary with a few spirits occupying the land by otherwise nothing that would deem it as strange.
And then he saw it.
He was near certain it was a face. A face with a frigid smile, dark eyes, and ill intentions. It was preying upon them: upon the spirits of the mansion and upon the living that were residing inside it.
What did it want?
And what would it do to get it?

⋆ June ‘Cutthroat’ Marlowe had built up quite a reputation for herself. Not only was she the daughter of legendary Captain Damon ‘The Marked,’ but she was the only one brave enough to wrong him and get away with it. Now fleeing for her life, June has to find a ship and a crew, and sail to wherever the map she stole from her father takes her, before he can get his hands on the treasure she’s after.
Word travels fast, and it seems as if the seven seas were against her, as she’s being hunted down by more than just her bloodthirsty father:
Captain Bates Anderson— The British Navy Officer— who she’d outsmarted time and time again, and wants nothing more than to see her pay for the crimes she’s committed.
The love of her life, who she had left for dead.
This pesky pirate who just so happens to have exactly what she’s looking for.
And an ancient curse that had been following her family for years.

⋆ Jacques and Louis Monet weren't surprised when they were approached by a stranger, saying he was investigating some of the most prominent criminal masterminds in the world. They were surprised, however, to learn that he wasn't a detective.
The man went by a code name, Chaos, to conceal his identity from not only the rest of the world, but also from the group of people he had gathered to assist him in robbing the Natural History Museum in London, England.
The ragtag group of criminals banded together,-knowing nothing about each other or what their life was like before the heist- and invaded the museum of London.
The goal?
Return the items that were stolen by the British to their rightful countries (at a high price, of course), and don't get caught.
Both objectives were difficult, but as each hour passes they only get harder, especially when dealing with a building of unruly hostages, and having to undermine UK law enforcement.
The worst part, though?
Hostages keep turning up dead, and no one has the slightest clue why. They do know, that with each body they find, the deeper and deeper they're digging a hole that they aren't sure they can climb out of.

⋆ There was a body found in Kiplan Lake and she had strawberries for eyes.
Detective Dianne Jennings had no idea what to think. She and Detective Gregory were assigned a seemingly impossible case, one where they were unable to identify even the victim. There were no leads to go off of, no way to even begin to profile the killer, much less understand why something like this happened to their unidentified victim.
With the string of murders that plagued the curious small town of Beckton, it left everyone scared to leave their homes, and with no way to know if the killer was still out there, it was rightfully so. The only time people were allowed a sense of relief, was on Sundays, where they would crowd into the local church and listen to Pastor Dean's reassurances.
The police were doing all they could to hunt down the twisted mind that came up with and carried out such a terrible crime, but every lead the detectives uncovered took them to another dead end and left them with more questions than answers.
They had to catch this killer before they fled the area, or before they killed again.

Here's the latest version of Avantine! Since my first update, I've obviously changed the configuration of the continents quite a bit. Still not super happy with the cluster of islands in the east, so those probably won't stay, but other than that, I'm really liking how it's coming along. I think my favorite part is adding all of elevation changes. It's also finally nice to be able to see places that play a major part in the story on the map.
Also known as the “crisis” or the moment when all hope is lost for your protagonist. The Darkest Hour is when your character hits rock bottom and that “happy ending” just seems unreachable. In this scene, success for your protagonist appears impossible.
What could be a Darkest Hour?
In my opinion, you want your darkest hour to be as dark as possible. Push things to the extreme, create stakes, and hurt your protagonist.
• Not just any death, but the death of someone your protagonist loves (did your protagonist fail to save them? They now blame themselves.)
• Not just a mild injury, but a serious and life-threatening one (does this injury follow your protagonist into the end of the story? Permanently?)
• Use their fears against them (if they’re afraid of snakes, don’t just have one appear… have them fall into a pit of them.)
• Make your protagonist lose all hope and put their insecurities on full display (they’re embarrassed and ashamed in front of everyone.)
• Attack their mentality just as much as their physicality. (Betrayals, lies, deceptions, self-doubts.)
When does it happen?
Typically, the Darkest Hour occurs right before the climax. Your protagonist is at their all-time low until they have an “a-ha!” moment and gain the hope, strength, or resources to overcome their conundrum and push into the climax of the story.
How does my Protagonist overcome their crisis?
There are numerous ways that your protagonist can trudge out of the mud and gain the strength to continue fighting. They could do it independently and prove themselves a true hero, pull hope from memories and past encounters, receive aid from allies, divine intervention, etc.
Why is the Darkest Hour Important?
The Darkest Hour is vital to a character’s arc and story because, during their all-time low, their true nature is revealed. Their insecurities, flaws, and fears are all out on the table and the readers get to see them at their most vulnerable. Watching them overcome the crisis shows the reader their growth as a character.
⭐ Show the readers how much your protagonist has grown. If this crisis happened at the beginning of your story, your protagonist would NOT have been able to overcome it. Only through their growth, learning, and plot experiences… are they able to overcome it now.
⭐THIS IS WHERE YOUR PROTAGONIST CAN FINALLY SEE THEIR MISBELIEF/FLAW.
During or after your protagonist’s Darkest Hour is an amazing place for your protagonist to realize the flaw in their thinking (their misbelief).
Referring back to older posts, your protagonist needs to have a “flaw” or “misbelief”. A false way of thinking that eventually, they will realize is wrong.
• “I’ll never be good enough.”
• “Magic is wrong and I will never use it.”
• “All aliens are evil and need to be eliminated.”
This misbelief should have been impeding on your character through the entire plot, causing them conflict and turmoil. After fighting for survival in their darkest moment, they realize they were thinking wrong all along.
• A character reminds your protagonist that they are good enough.
• Your protagonist sees magic being used to heal their allies and realizes finally that it can be used for good.
• An alien saves your protagonist from a bullet and suddenly your character sees that not all aliens are bad.
