It's been a long time since I introduced this and it's changed quite a bit since then so I thought I'd introduce it again.

Synopsis

Cassandra has been living on a pirate ship ever since losing her memories two years ago, yet when visions of an unknown woman start haunting her, she knows it must relate to her past. Leaving the only life she's ever known, she ventures to her hometown of Thelerissa to find the woman she's been dreaming about.

Persefona has had enough adventure to last a lifetime. All she wants to do is live out her life in peace and quiet, but Cassandra's presence is making waves in town, forcing her to step out of the shadows and confront what she's been hiding from.

In order to find out Cassandra's past, they'll have to use their resources to delve into the world of the Thelerissan elite. However, secrets hide beneath the facade of a peaceful merchant city and the price for finding them may be too high for both of them...

Main characters

Cassandra "Cass" Diaz. She/her. Former pirate, currently an artist. Righteous and compassionate, but self-questioning. Believes in Fortune.

Persefona "Sef" Báthory. She/he/they. A solitary healer. Bold and debonair, manipulative. The only god he would believe in is himself.

Oscar Ehrenskïold Skavgaard. He/they. Sef's friend (?). Town darling. Actor, playwright and theatre administrator. Generous and affable, lacking in self-esteem. Willing to sacrifice himself if necessary.

Elias Alagumuthu DuPont. He/him. Ballet dancer. Incisive and courteous, inhibited. Believes in the gods of his mother.

it’s actually quite easy to take over a small local government group if you really want to, bc if you volunteer consistently people will just put you in charge of whatever. I’m now one of like three people at a nature preserve making official decisions about trails, events, putting in a prairie, and designing a series of illustrations for a storybook trail etc., and it’s just because last summer I started coming over once a week to help the naturalist out for a couple hours. Mine now. you too can steal an organization and shape it to your will 🫵

I don't think Tolkien is a good fantasy writer because he scored the highest at some objective Best Fantasy Book Test that every fantasy writer has to take, I think he's a good fantasy writer because he created a world based on things that he was interested in. I feel like a lot of fantasy writers think that they need to create a whole language for their world because Tolkien did and obviously his books are the best so they have to emulate him, but Tolkien did that because he was a linguistics nerd. I think the lesson to be learned from him is not that you have to include elves and deep history and new languages, but that you have to write endlessly about the things you are a huge nerd about and use those things to create your fantasy world

My pettiest opinion about the fantasy genre is that I really dislike shows where someone casts a spell and it instantly summons a big glowy circle of glyphs and runes and incantations in the air.

Someone drawing a big circle of glyphs and runes and incantations and casting a spell is sexy. Tracing a big glowing glyph in the air with a finger while you’re casting a spell is sexy. Going “I Summon Big Wheel Of Glowy Geometric Nonsense” is about as stimulating as old cheese
