Here Comes the Cavalry | MJ, Harley & Jaden (closed)
Jaden didn’t really know when he had actually made the decision to come find MJ. The moments after Kelly had left his place after dropping off the lucky feather he’d given to MJ ages ago were sort of a blur. He wasn’t sure exactly how his mind had come to the conclusion that this was the best course of action, but the next second he was calling Harley, filling her in on his plan and then she was heading home to meet him, insisting on coming too. He hadn’t really had much time to think about it either, as they’d caught the first flight out of Jackson.
Once they’d gotten on the plane and settled in their seats, though, Jaden suddenly had plenty of time to think about it. Sure, Harley and him had talked about what all MJ had gone through in the last few weeks and what they thought the best way to approach the situation was. But after a little while, they’d both fallen into silence. And thanks to what Jaden considered sibling telepathy, he was certain Har was pondering what all this would mean for their friend too.Â
When Kelly had given Jaden his bird feather key chain back, a part of him couldn’t help but feel as if MJ was rejecting him. Giving that little token to MJ, cheesy as it may have been, had been Jaden’s way of saying that he would always be there for her. That he’d be there whenever she needed, no matter the circumstances. And her giving it back, had almost felt like she didn’t want or need his help anymore.
During the four and a half hour long flight, Jaden had gone back and forth with thoughts that maybe this trip up to New York hadn’t been a good idea. What if she really didn’t want them? What if it wasn’t just an act to make them think she was okay on her own. What if she really wanted to be on her own? Were they overstepping their bounds here? But as the pilot announced their upcoming descent into NYC, he realized that it was too late to go back now and after he and Harley had gotten their bags, they hailed a cab and were headed to the hospital where Harley said MJ’d be.Â
Sitting in the back of that cab, Jaden looked over at Harley, almost nervously as the vehicle navigated its way through the hustle and bustle of NYC. “Well, we’re definitely not in Oxford anymore, Toto.” he said with a  nervous chuckle.Â
The first thing Harley really heard from her friend came via the associated press. William Vaughan’s article left Harley feeling cold and insubstantial and the stream of news that followed did nothing to ease anyone’s anxiety. When she got the call from her brother, Harley at last felt some shred of hope. It wasn’t much really, but doing something to help her friend was all Harley really wanted. In other circumstances, Har would’ve been beyond excited to explore the Big Apple. In all honesty, she had at one time daydreamed that someday she and MJ would get an apartment in NYC together and live life like a bad sit com about two country girls adapting to the city life…that had never happened, but it hardly put a stop to Harley’s interest in her friend’s much more sophisticated milieu. As it was, this trip was far more four than a younger Harley would have anticipated. Sitting beside her brother, clogged in traffic, Harley leaned over and squeezed his hand. “I’m glad we’re doing this,” she said, smiling sadly. “MJ needs friends around her, now, more than ever.” If MJ had had this same collapse in a place Harley found completely in appealing, such as the deserts off in the west, she’d be saying the same thing. MJ needed them. That was all that mattered. “You know what,” she added, peering out the window. “We’ve been sitting in place here for almost ten minutes, and the hospital should be just around the block. Let’s pay the cabbie and walk it?” she suggested. The walk wasn't terribly far and, in fact, she was grateful for the fresh air. She knew she'd need every bit of freedom she could take with her: MJ might have need of it. "Ready?" She asked her brother before stepping inside. "Hi, we're looking for Maggie Jean Monroe...or she might be here under the last name Westwood..."

just. walk. out. | claire & harley (closed)
"You are not trying to hit up this gas station and wait in this miserable line to buy one pack of mints, are you?" Claire folded her arms across her chest, raising a perfectly manicured brow at the brunette beside her. Technically, this might have ended up being Claire’s fault. She had been complaining five minutes earlier that her extra-sensitive wolf nose could smell those onions Harley had had on her burger a mile away. Hence the mints. But Claire was a simple girl. She didn’t carry mints on her, but when she did, she sure as hell didn’t wait in lines to buy the mints. “These mints are .79¢, Har,” Claire pointed out before tipping her head to the side, as though trying to be discreet. “Just. Walk. Out. And if they catch you — just run.”
Shock was palpable on Harley's face, mouth agape, eyes wide. Harley fit into nearly every goodie-two-shoes stereotype ever heard of. That might have made spending time with someone like Claire Belfront unlikely, but Harley preferred to think they balanced one another out...She also had a soft spot for the Belfront family (not to mention the entire Pack), which unfortunately (or at least that was how essentially everyone in town put it) included Claire. Whatever the cause, however, Harley was in this by whatever strange twist of fate and now Claire was trying to rub off on her. "Are you suggesting-" Harley's voice went suspiciously low. "I can't possibly steal this! Look at those poor employees. They depend on this for their livelihood!" She paused, shrugging. "And I'll grant you that no one can support themselves on 79¢ but once you start, where does it stop?" her eyes were sharp with concern as she cast an even more suspicious look towards the front of the line. It wasn't a stretch to say that Harley Keventry would make the worst thief of all time. "I'm not like you, Claire! I'm not tough and I'm definitely not cool. I'd never get away with something like that!" she added, hastily. "You might, but not me. I'd be caught and Jaden would have to come pick me up and my mother would probably cry and, sure, she cries alot but all the more reason to not give her another excuse for tears. I would seriously never live this down...It would honestly be the worst thing I have ever done." Harley paused, frowning, as she considered what she'd just said and added, "I have led a very sheltered life."
