Decided to redraw this old Menehelen art
Does Sally Jackson ever flinch when her husband Paul raises his hand to grab something from the top shelf
Does she stop breathing when his arms lace around her to hug her from behind
Does she have to hold back a panic attack when she sees minotaur costumes on Halloween
Do they make her feel like she can’t breathe, like its hands are still wrapped around her neck, squeezing
Did her postpartum night-terrors wake the baby every night
Does she cry when Estelle spends the night at a friend’s house, worried she’ll never come home again
Does she cover her ears during thunderstorms
Does a tear roll down her cheek when she drives by an airport
Does she prefer to strain her eyes over getting reading glasses, because wearing them reminds her too much of being gaslit as a child
Can she even let Estelle attend public school, or have Percy’s stories about cannibal English teachers finally gotten to her
How does Paul comfort her
How could Paul comfort her
This wasn’t his world. He only half-understood it, and he wanted to understand it For Her.
Does Paul insist on cooking because he doesn’t want Sally to see him as the scumbag who made her do everything
Do Percy’s demonic enemies send Paul nightmares, trying to convince him to abandon his family
Does he brush his teeth in the car after a night out with friends, worried Sally will recoil at the scent of alcohol on his breath again
Does he keep (what Percy assures him is) a celestial bronze gun in his classroom, in case he needs to protect a student he suspects to be a demigod, even though all he can see is a watergun
Does the terror-stricken look in Sally’s eyes when he accidentally asks her for something—that Gabe always wanted—eat him up inside
Has he ever had to kill someone the mist made him think was his friend, in order to protect a demigod in his school
Do Sally’s nails dig into his back when she’s having nightmares again
Can he ever get the mental image of Percy killing Kelly right in front of him out of his head
Did Paul put Estelle back to bed at every midnight cry, to make sure Sally knew she wouldn’t be alone this time
Does she require hourly check-ins when he leaves the house, to make sure he hasn’t been kidnapped by any queens or giants, and that he hadn’t left her like Poseidon did
That he wasn’t just another tidal wave that would crash over her and wash away; that he would be her rock in the hurricane. The shield to her sword, a loving father to their children.

Crack AU where the Kronides are unable to have kids, so the Roman deities are kidnapped to take their place. BP!Fate considers this to be all well and good because the Romans have the Olympians and they're the same, right?
Nope! The Romans are separate deities who unfortunately have to share a body with the Greeks in the modern day. In the past, they considered their Greek counterparts like cousins who they were frequently mistaken for, but due to modern misconceptions about how syncretism works, they were forced into one body. Said body sharing also lead to an extreme Greco-Roman feud, because who wouldn't be upset? This means that Mercury would literally rather die than continue to be called 'Hermes'. Someone get him out of there!!!
Apollo would probably be the sole Greek pulled along for the ride, but if we take Diana as a separate deity, then she would hate having to call him brother, especially since this Zeus is extremely delusional and dotes on both of them like they're toddlers. Apollo also wants to die, because not only does he have to cohabitate with the Romans, but he has to deal with his father treating him like a child.
Minerva has no mother to deal with because Zeus still ate Metis, but if we pretend he didn't just for drama, we could have her feel guilty for basically stealing Athena's mom, even though she really hates her.
For bonus points, we could have the BP!Olympians' mothers (Leto, Maia, etc.) be deranged about their 'children' coming back from the dead. Mercury has to spend an awkward few days in Cyllene while Maia believes him to be her dead son. Just because the mortals got confused about his heritage does not mean *he* is confused about his heritage. He manifested out of the Dii Lucrii, he's not Maia's son! And Leto. I feel that poor Leto just gets the raw end of the stick in BP!AUs since everyone knows Hera as her children's mother, so why not make it up to her and give her Diana (not her daughter) and Apollo (actually her son, but having to play house with a very angry Roman).
Demeter and Hera are no better. Since Liber Pater and Prosperina (Libera) are the children of Ceres (Demeter's Roman counterpart) BP!Demeter promptly goes insane over their 'miraculous' survival. For his part Mars would like to go back to Juno and Flora, they were much more rational than this crazy version of Hera, Venus, help him--
Actually, if we go by the Homeric backstory, Aphrodite is also a daughter of Zeus, so Venus could be stuck too. The delusional oceanid Dione who tried and failed to birth Zeus's child hovers like an annoying gnat, one which Venus unfortunately cannot get rid of. At least it lets her stay close to Veritas and Jupiter's other children.
Then there's Poseidon and Hades, who may be very jealous indeed that they have no kids of their own (because I can't find any that aren't Greek in my wikipedia and theoi.com crawl...)

"Lord of the silver bow, now hear my prayer! Great guardian of Tenedos and Chryse and sandy Cilla! Mouse Lord! If I ever built temples to your liking, ever burned fat thighs of oxen or of goats for you, fulfill this prayer for me, and let the Greeks suffer your arrows to avenge my tears!" (Homer. Iliad, trans. wilson)
Apollo sends a plague to the Greeks, my piece for the 2026 edition, Sing! O Muse Zine.
It's the way she drew both of them as conventionally attractive to me. 💀
WHY ARE HER TUSKS SO TINY THIS IS JUST COWARDICE
I dont like Trials of Apollo for a series of reasons, like the mischaracterization of old characters. But my main one is that there is no mention of this guy:
You probably dont know who he is if you haven't read The Demigod's diaries
This is Halcyon Green, a son of Apollo, who cursed him for using his prophetic powers to save a girl destined to die.
Hal was forced to wear the skin of the Python, who guarded the Oracle as a reminder that he was not an oracle. He lost his voice and got locked inside his childhood home, a mansion in Richmond, Virginia, he was guarded by the leucrotae who were linked to his thoughts and could speak for him. They kept him alive as bait for future demigods, who would look for a treasure, as a way for Apollo to remind him that his voice will lead others to their doom
To a book dedicated to make Apollo pay for his past mistakes its disappointing he is not even mentioned
There was an artwork of the Gaang watching the bisons playing in the air.
Does anybody else ever wonder if Toph ever feels sad and left out during these kinds of moments? Likeeee,,, maybe she could feel them getting excited and she lowkey gets frustrated for not being able to relate to it?
I'd like to think that if she did, Zuko would be the first to notice because he's the most perceptive in the group (shoutout to Uncle Iroh's fantastic parenting) and he tries his best to include her by narrating to her what they're seeing. Just like how he said, "He's actually flying." directly to her when they were watching Tagah and Aang fly from the airship because he knew Toph couldn't see the scene.
Don't mind me, I'm just gonna go cry at some corner.
Dark-haired Apollo
I know everyone likes blonde Apollo, and for good reasons! A lot of poets seemed to have been fond of imagining him with long, beautiful golden hair. But dark-haired Apollo, though quite rare in the poems, also exists and I honestly like that too.
• From the Erythrean paean to Asclepius (which then continues into a paean to king Seleucus):
"Over the libations, sing of Seleucus, son of dark-haired Apollo, whom the god of the golden lyre himself begot..." – (Trans. P.A.LeVen)
> κυανοπλοκάμου (kyanoplokámou) - dark-haired is used to describe Apollo's hair here.
• From Limenius' paean to Apollo (also known as the second Delphic hymn):
"But you, O god who owns the oracular tripod, come to this ridge of Parnassus where the gods tread, and where divine possession is welcomed. Weave a crown of bay about your wine-dark hair, and drawing with your hand . . . you encountered the monstrous child of Gaia . . ." (Trans. J.G.Landels)
>It was a bit difficult for me to figure what word is used here for his hair because the original Greek text is fragmented and I'm not knowledgeable about the language - I rely on the online translations - so a disclaimer. But from what I've put together, the word used to describe the color of the hair is οἰνῶ̣πα (oinõpa) which translates to "dark", "ruddy complexioned". Also, the same hymn calls Apollo "golden-haired" in the beginning lol.
In Deipnosophists by Athenaeus, a comment is made on the poets' imagination of Apollo's hair vs the painters' preference:
"And you do not either like the poet who spoke of the golden-haired Apollo; for if a painter were to represent the hair of the god as actually golden, and not black, the picture would be all the worse." – (Trans. Charles Burton Gulick)
> according to this, the painters liked to represent Apollo with black (μελαίνας) hair. Or rather that making his golden will make the painting look worse.
And if the Roman paintings and mosaics are any proof, these painters did actually seem to prefer representing Apollo with dark hair.
So yeah, while in the myths he's often called golden-haired, dark-haired Apollo is a more common sight in the paintings.
oh so when other people call a baby "cute enough to eat" it's sweet and charming. but when i, cronus,
*mischaracterizes the trojan war as a rescue mission so i can imagine a boring helen/menelaus reunion free of conflict*
*mischaracterizes the trojan war as a rescue mission so i can make the trojans defending their homeland against an invading and enslaving force into a bad cause*
Hi! I hope you’re doing fine! Do you happen to know what’s the source that says that after his apotheosis, Herakles was loved and honored by Hera second only to Zeus? Have I dreamed this up? I’m pretty sure it exists but I can’t find it anywhere
I am, thanks :)
And yes, it definitely exists! It's a fragment from the Hesiodic Corpus:
"He died and came to the much-groaning house of Hades. Now he is already a god and has escaped all evils, and he lives where the others do who have their mansions on Olympus, immortal and ageless, possessing beautiful-ankled Hebe, daughter of great Zeus and of golden-sandaled Hera. Previously the goddess, white-armed Hera, hated him more than any of the blessed gods, and any mortal humans, but now she loves him, and honours him beyond the other immortals, except for Kronos' mighty son himself." - Hes. fr. 25.26-33 Merkelbach-West (trans. G. W. Most)
Rhea as the ruler of the elements in the Argonautica
“For on her the winds and sea and earth's foundations all depend, and the snowy bastion of Olympos; and to her, when she climbs great heaven from her mountains, Zeus himself, son of Kronos, gives place, and all the other blessed immortals honor that terrible goddess.”- Apollonius, Argonautica (C3rd B.C)
“ἐκ γὰρ τῆς ἄνεµ[οι]: by her, Rhea, the earth, sea and sky are held together. For the natural philosophers explain her nature saying she is the earth and the arrangement of all things and the bond which unites them, and they etymologise her name from the fact that she is always-flowing (ῥεῖν) and makes monsters (τείρεα). And in a physical explanation, they say her husband is Kronos, that is, time (χρόνος) with the change of a letter. Time is associated by necessity with the order of the elements. Then there are also those who say allegorically that they are the fathers of the gods of the sea, sky and underworld. For after the elements were arranged and bound together, it happened that men learned to distinguish the gods and the powers of the gods and honour them.”- Schol. Arg. 1.1098–1102α
a honest question, you zutara fans really like the idea of katara as fire lady (ruling the nation responsible for her tribe's violence) which is funny because somehow zuko giving up his throne to join the water tribe is never part of the conversation since that wouldn't be romantically appealing right? it's almost like the royalty angle only meant to serve him and katara is just his accessory
Nothing more shall be said on the matter.
Zuko giving up his throne young would also lead to a massive power vacuum in the Fire Nation. Which would be objectively bad for everyone in the entire world. So instead he gives up his throne when his and Katara's daughter is old enough to take over, and then he and Katara retire to the South Pole. Here in the Zutara fandom, as Hannah Montana the sages of old once foretold, "you get the best of both worlds".
