Her name has always brought her pride, it brought even more in this very moment. Her family screaming her name, her grandmother with a giant head cut out of her, and even the screaming from her underclassmen. This entire moment, the applause, the attention, sheâs eating it up. She wonât deny the anxiety that sheâs feeling in the pit of her stomach but itâll never overpower her pride. She earned after hours spent in the libraries to attending office hours to ensure the best grades. Harper worked her butt off for this moment so sheâs going to eat it up.
Unknown to her are the watchful and sad filled eyes that never leave her walking figure. A woman who holds similarities to her, from the way she frowns to the furrowing of her eyebrows. She watches Harper from a distance, away from her friends and family. Thereâs regret that swarms her like bees as she sees the younger girlâs smile. Itâs both foreign and familiar to her. It brings both happiness and sadness to her heart. This is a child that she missed on raising, a bright and beautiful young woman
Harper attends Columbia for grad school alongside VG. Theyâre roommates and absolutely loving it. Just two cool kids living that NYC life. Harperâs a city girl (truly) so the city life is truly for her.
Living with VG is def better than living with Harperâs old roommates. Itâs nice having her best friend at her side the entire time. They have their moments but theyâre literally soulmates, nothing can break them apart.
After they graduate, Harper officially enters the world of politics. Idk what she does but sheâs like in this world for like four years before she says âfuck itâ and gets a job as a human rights activity coordinator (somewhere). Fits her a lot better tbh.
When sheâs nearing her late 20s, her father sits down and talks to her. âAva wants to talk to you,â he says as Harper goes rigid. Ava, her mother, the one person she doesnât want to see. Ever. âShe feels bad for never reaching out to you. She said that she wants to try now.â Better late than never he added. Harper just glared at him before refusing. Why see a woman who never cared about her until now?
Itâs a year later before she does finally give in and meet Ava. The two look alike, she sees more similarities between her and this woman than with her father. It only adds to her ever growing anger. Itâs awkward at first for Ava because Harper refuses to look at her. Every time the older woman finds something to say and opens her mouth, she closes it just as quickly. She has a difficult time with getting the words out and having her daughter truly understand where sheâs coming from. She may be the villain but sheâs a villain with an explanation.
Itâs Harper who breaks the silence, her foot tapping a slow, melodic beat. âIâve always wanted to know why you left us. At first I thought it was because you werenât ready, that you didnât want to be a mother.â She turns to her, her stare harsh despite the growing redness in her eyes. âBut then you start a new family and have not one but three kids. Why?â
Ava feels small sitting here, shrinking into the boothâs cushion. The plaster that is coming off shouldâve made it uncomfortable to sit but she finds comfort in it. Itâs more comforting than this conversation. âI wasnât ready,â she answers. âWhen I had you, I wasnât ready just yet. But then I met my husband and then--â
âThen you had Jaleh, Kimia, and Reza,â Harper interrupts, causing Avaâs eyes to grow wide. âYeah, I know their names.â They stuck to her when she first learned of them. Jaleh, Kimia, Reza, and Harper. Just thinking about her name next to theirs felt strange, truly showing how sheâs the outsider of the family.
âI didnât know that--â
âYou donât know anything about me.â
âYes, Iâm aware of that, thatâs why Iâm trying to change that. Now! By reaching out to you.â
âIt took you twenty-eight years to do that? Ha!â And she laughs, a short and painful laugh that doesnât fill her with any joy. âYou shouldâve done that when I was younger, when I was actually waiting for you to come into my life. When I was six and looking for my mom. Not now when Iâm grown as hell.â
âI know, I know that I shouldâve came earlier but--âÂ
âBut nothing.â Her voice is steady despite the raging storm inside her. She scoots herself out of the booth, shaking her head in the process. âLook, thanks for trying, Ava but--â Takes a deep breath as she stands to her feet. â-- I donât need you and I never will. While you werenât there for me, my dad was. He wasnât ready to be a parent, much less a single father but he did it. He did it when you were too scared to do it.âÂ
A beat as the two let the words settle around them. Harper stands there, waiting for the other to say something, anything but she doesnât. A win for her but it doesnât feel like a win. Sheâs only left with disappointment and pain.
Thatâs the last time she really talks to the woman but she does create a relationship with her half-siblings. Mainly her younger brother Reza, the youngest of Avaâs three children. Despite their age gap, the two become incredibly close, itâs the first time sheâs seen as someoneâs older sister.
Gets married to some guy. I donât know who he is or what he does, just know that Harper loves him. And they have one kid, a little girl who Harper loves more than anything else.
Thatâs literally it, peace out fambam!
Hi! Because I absolutely adore Harper Kent, Imma keep rping her for like 1x1 stuff. So if youâre interested in doing something with the true chaos baby, please hmu. Xoxo gossip gorl
After pissing like a racehorse in the bathroom, Kat struggled to reassemble their hazmat suit, tying shit here, fumbling with stupid buttons there. Their suit sagged on their frame like a used condom, a shitty rendition of how they looked when Priya styled them. Their chest exposed and ghastly under the sterile bathroom lights, they strode over to the line of sinks, shoving the tap on with their bony wrists. Victoria Grace? Kat scoffed. The girlâs parents wanted her bullied so bad. Running water drowned the drunken shuffling well enough, and Kat pointedly ignored the door groaning from its hinges. âThen what am I gonna tell the kids?â they intoned without looking up. Couldnât even wash their hands in peace at this fucking place. âCan you hang on âtil I get through the ABCs? You made me lose my place, now I gotta restart.â Theyâre just being a dick.
Harper didnât know a lot of Gallagher students personally but at least she remembered faces. And this was a face that wasnât sparking any sort of familiarity. Probably a first year or a transfer or maybe Harper was truly shit at remembering faces! Any of those options could be true, especially considering her current state. âYouâll tell them nothing.â Because the two of them didnât have any children-- she didnât even know their name! How could you have kids with someone whoâs name you didnât know? She stepped out completely, very much annoyed as she just needed someone to zip up her dress. VG where did you go? She thought to herself as she stood beside the other and in front of a sink. âNot my fault that youâre shit at multi-tasking,â Harper said, hands reaching for the soap and turning on the sink faucet, she too began to wash her hands. âWho even says their ABCs while washing their hands? Obviously youâre supposed to sing Maryâs Had a Little Lamb...âÂ
â I WONDER HOW SHEâLL COMPARE TO RIHANNA, â  he muses aloud, perhaps because he likes name dropping just a little bit. before tonight, the rihanna concert was definitely the coolest one heâd ever been to â especially where his seats were. anyway.  â vg ? â  his eyebrows furrow for a moment.  â sheâs the little blonde french girl, right ? â  he wonders if she knows rafa has a girlfriend now.  â but thatâs cool. if you need a list of cool bars or restaurants to check out, let me know. you going for politics or fashion ? â
âHold up, you saw Rihanna?â Whatever depressive moment that she was going through had disappeared, now replacement with complete awe and jealous. âIâm surprised, didnât take you for much of a music guy.â Didnât think he liked the music she was in, I mean come on, it was Harper who put him on Megan! Dude was seriously lacking. âYes thatâs her, come on now, youâre acting as if sheâs some random person.â To be fair she was a random person to Caden. âI would love that actually, thank you. And politics of course, I donât have what it takes to enter the fashion world.â And she was fine with that.Â
CADEN THROWS HIS HANDS TO THE SIDE, motioning to the party around them.  â what, you mean like beyonce ? â  he smiles, because really, heâs in no room to complain.  â plus i got to see you again, which is always nice. itâs good to see you, â  caden adds, in case that wasnât clear. never did he expect gallagher to let the georgetown students back on campus, but he hadnât realized how much he truly missed her until she was coercing him into taking pictures of her.  â no shit ?  thatâs awesome, i love new york. whatâll you be doing ? â
âWell, welcome back. Glad to see that Gallagher invited you all back, itâs the least they can do.â It was because of the problems with Gallagher and Blackthorne that the Georgetown students got involved. Monique felt bad for that. âSpy in training, well, I was. Graduating tomorrow. Leaving this world behind to model full time.âÂ
âOh! Congratulations!â And thank God. Harper couldnât imagine Monique as a spy, it just didnât make any sense. Also, she couldnât have her favorite celebrity dying because of this wack ass world. âIâm sure youâre glad to be on your way. I also graduated and Iâm ready to go!â A beat as she laughed awkwardly. âI mean, not like I can because Iâm going to grad school in the Fall but still.âÂ
âSo... you got their name but no money? Thatâs sad.â More like embarrassing. Imagine walking around with a family name that doesnât even want you. âWhy are you representing a family that cut your parents off?âÂ
CADEN OFFERS HER A SMILE AS HE GLANCES DOWN AT HER, pleased that she wasnât going to fight him on it.  â please, itâs the least you deserve, â  he shakes his head. need he remind her about last year ?  â whatâs your plan for after graduation ?  are you staying in dc ? â  part of him wonders if heâll see her again after tonight ;  things might have gotten a little awkward after the last time they had seen each other ( especially considering he got a girlfriend not long after that ) .Â
âBut you also deserve something.â It was quiet, what she said, quiet and rushed. As if she didnât want him to hear it. As if she didnât want to bring up how it wasnât just her who went through a lot but also Caden. They both lost someone important to them, so they both deserved something. Too bad she couldnât give him anything, what would you even give a guy who almost had everything? Harper didnât know. âIâm heading home for a bit before going back to D.C. But by the end of July, Iâm moving out and heading to New York.âÂ
THE WAY SHE SAID IT MADE IT FEEL LIKE A BAD THING.  â i can take it back, if you want, â  he says playfully, because caden has no plans to retract his gift.  â listen, itâs what you deserve. it was a hell of a year last year, and i imagine going back this year wasnât easy, and⊠i donât know. you should be proud of graduating. get yourself something nice. â  if he had bought her a gift, it wouldâve been ridiculously expensive anyway.
âNo,â she said quickly. âIâll take it, itâs just--â It felt weird, getting so much money from Caden which was so dumb to her. She always received money from Levi and Rafa gave her money for a plane ticket to France-- this shouldnât be any different. Just this time, it came more from the heart than the other two. Which probably made her feel like crap. She could spend time thinking about why, pouring and musing over each and every thought, but she didnât have time for that. Nor did she want to. Why potentially hurt yourself with thoughts that will make you feel like shit later? It wasnât worth it, not one bit. âThank you, Caden, really,â Harper finally said, bringing the card close to her chest. âI donât think I deserve it but thanks either way.âÂ
The girlâs dress is even light in color, making it all worse. âAnd itâs red wine! Maybe she has an extra dress she can change into quickly,â she says, hoping this is the case. âOh, same here. I applaud her for maintaining composure. Her dress is beautiful, too.â She sighs. âThough I suppose we shouldâve expected such an accident. Everyoneâs drinking and they happen more often than not.âÂ
âOr maybe she doesnât and sheâs fucked for the rest of the night.â Though, this was Gallagher, a school with fairly well off students, maybe the other was right about there being a second dress. âStill sucks. People need to either 1) learn how to hold their drinks or 2) not drink so much and save a bunch of outfits from getting ruined.â
âshe has that effect.â tingâs favorite beyonce song is probably halo, just gives off good vibes. ânice to meet you as well. oh, i see, i am not overly familiar with what happened last year, it is only my first year.â and potentially her last. âdid you enjoy your time here?â a genuine question, not just being polite.
A baby, Harper thought to herself as she looked at Ting. Left lucky to not have to experience what happened last year, though, she did hear that this school year was also terrible. Maybe the problem was just Gallagher in general. At the otherâs question, she was redy to say no and tell her that she hated it. That Gallagher has made her cry more than Georgetown, that she missed calling her dad, and kinda sorta missed her ex-boyfriend. But she doesnât, instead Harper smiled gently as she answered, âSome days I did. I had my friends at my side and met a few people here. It was... okay.âÂ
âYeah right! Youâre far from a sinner.â Harper, on the other hand, was a sinner for more reasons than she could count. Imogen was a saint, if you opened a dictionary, youâll find a picture of her there ( specifically one of her and Allie standing together ). âOh, Iâm ready to fly back with you,â she said, laughing gently. âTake me away, Iâm tired of the U.S.!âÂ
â âTHATâŠSOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT,â ALLIE GRIMACES, not one to usually take on a negative attitude, but harperâs pretty good at igniting her rage ! and so is gallagher. she understands that everything they did last year was supposedly for her safety, but not everyone was safe so sheâs still pretty upset. â itâs hard being back here, honestly, but i couldnât not come with you guys. â so, naturally, her eyes light up at the mention of a plan, reaching to grab harperâs arm in her excitement, â YES, tell me everything ! â
Noahâs waiting for the bartender to get her a new glass of wine when her eyes land on a random student who had just accidentally run into someone and had her drink spilt all over her dress. âOh shit. Not this. Did you see that?â She turns to the closest person to her. âGod, I feel awful.â Sheâd lose her mind if she had a drink spilt down her dress.
âYeah, I did.â And it was not a pretty sight. All Harper could do was lightly shake her head, sipping from her glass and watching the scene before them. âI donât know about her but I wouldâve lost it on someone if that were me.âÂ
âBecause itâs hurting me! Does that mean nothing?â Of course, the dramatic demeanor does not subside. Itâs Levi Madden, please. But he canât resist the chuckle that escapes his lips at her pat of reassurance. âToo cold, Harper Kent⊠Too cold,â he teases. âOh please.â He scoffs. âI can beat him. Iâll double whatever he gave you.â Heâs used to giving Harper money. The sugar daddy life and all that.Â
âNo, it doesnât.â And she said with the brightest smile that she could muster up. He was a drama king and she was the one who didnât give a damn about his dramatics. âOh word?â Harperâs eyes lit up as if she hit the jackpot. To think, Levi actually fell for that... Sorry Allie but your mans... not the brightest! âHe gave me a check for $2,000. Like can you believe that? You can easily double that.â Triple if he wanted.Â
âGreat? Without me?â he repeats like itâs the most ridiculous and absurd thing heâs ever heard. âNow you take it back, Kent, youâre only back for the night, donât go hurting me like that,â he teases, feigning offense. âAnd my money miss you.â
âWhy would I? Itâs the truth!â Whether it was true or not, Harper was laughing. âYouâll get over it, youâre a big boy.â A little pat to the arm as reassurance. âWhy not make both me and your money happy, I mean, your boy over there--â She pointed towards Caden. â-- Gave me a lot of money as a graduation gift. Think you can beat him? I mean, you are the Levi Madden. You can beat anyone.âÂ
OF COURSE SHEâD COMPLAIN ABOUT IT JUST BEING A CARD, but caden knows it wonât last long, so he presses his lips together to hold back a smile until she opens it. itâs a funny card, for the record, but certainly not worth the reaction sheâs giving. itâs impossible not to laugh at her reaction, lips spreading into another wide grin.  â what, was it not enough ?  i donât know how much you usually give for graduation nowadays. â  he knows itâs a bit more than normal, but after giving elliot a pretty hefty chunk of change for her dadâs stuff, two grand didnât feel like very much to caden.Â
âIs it not enough?â She was instantly reminded that the man before her was a rich boy. That this was nothing to him and most likely didnât make a dent in his pockets. And you know what, it lowkey pissed her off. âNot this much, Iâll tell you that! God,â Harper said. She had to bite down hard on the inside of her cheeks to keep from frowning. âPeople usually give you a couple of twenties or a few hundred dollar bills-- thatâs normal. They donât give out this much.âÂ
CADEN ROLLS HIS EYES PLAYFULLY, only because he canât deny that sheâs obviously right. he has more followers than ever thanks to her.  â yeah, yeah. whoâs laughing now ? â  itâs him, actually, because harper calling him carson canât NOT get that reaction out of him. while it used to annoy him, now it only makes his smile widen.  â you graduated, of course i got you a gift. gift is a loose term, actually, â  he adds, pulling out a card from his inside jacket pocket.  â i wanted to get something nicer, but i wanted to make sure i could hand it to you at the party, and i canât exactly wrap a mercedes. but itâs the thought that counts, right ? â  yeah, heâll downplay the card, despite the check he wrote out for two thousand dollars in it, so she could buy herself something nice.Â
The correct answer was both of them because she did find herself giggling slightly at the old nickname. She had him saved as that in her phone, she saw it whenever they texted. But saying it out loud just hit different. Excitement bubbled and traveled throughout her entire body as she waited for her gift. Though, the energy that ran through her body depleted at the sight of a card. âYou got me a card?â Harper questioned, lips pressed in a thin line. âI swear if itâs just a lame card from Target, Iâll--â Fight you. The words fell short as she opened the card, eyes falling on the check placed inside. Just as quick she opened it, she closed it, head snapping upwards as she stared at him, nervous laugh leaving her lips. âWhat the fuck?âÂ
