when i found out witchcraft was an actual thing people were doing i was baffled and hunted down a pdf of a guidebook to it.. and read all 200 pages... and i really think. the majority of irl trending witchcraft has no roots in any ritualistic practices of indigenous communities or old cultures... there is no shamanistic or older knowledge here. most of this stuff is about, to put it succinctly, crystals and cultural appropriation and wish fulfillment verging on delusion... like okay it’s fine that you find it nice to ritualise things and feel better by ‘cursing’ someone aka shredding their picture... but like.... this is just embarrassing. your ancestors colonised people and culled these same practices and called them barbaric for it. “we are the daughters of the witches you couldn’t burn” more like you are the daughters of the people who had innocent women who were not witches in the first place executed... what’s happening here is people looking for spirituality in the current world climate and going about it the silliest way possible. tiktok witches talking about being besties with lucifer and middle aged wasp moms thinking smoke cleansing their homes is cool... no 😭
