Fat kid problems

I had the best bear claw I've literally ever had today from the kosher market... ugh. fat kid  problems.

So we are venturing out to the far away land of Mayfield Heights tonight for Yom Hazikaron/Yom Ha'atzmaut/David Broza concert. it should be a good time. according to the information I've been given its a fairly large event where the whole Jewish community comes together.. Orthodox, Conservative, Reform.. I guess there will be lots of delicious kosher food... that's all i really needed to know.. lol

Today is 65 years since the creation of the State of Israel. Probably the most important event for Jews in 2000 years. In 1948, we finally had our original homeland back. Our prayers and tears of 2000 years had been answered and we were granted independence.

We are living in one of the most amazing times in Jewish history. Only 100 years ago, this was something that people dreamed of. But we can’t forget that the war of independence isn’t yet over. That war is still being fought and has been fought every single day since 1948. We will win. Eretz Yisrael is alive and well and it is going nowhere, and Jerusalem will remain the undivided and eternal capital of the Jewish people forever and ever.

Many of the writers in the Judaism section, especially the young gerim (may there be many such in Israel), seem to have a tremendous fear of ‘doing it wrong’ or committing an aveirah (sin), regarding shabbos, kashrut,tephilla, etc. I wanted to add a short vortlech that I hope is useful.

Police murder man @ movie theater for disobeying orders February 17, 2013

On January 14, 2013, a young man with Down syndrome went with his companion to see Zero Dark Thirty at the Regal Cinema in Frederick, MD. At the end of the movie, apparently because he wanted to see it again, he refused to get out of his seat. A Regal employee, rather than allowing him to stay and dealing with the situation later with his parents and the companion, called not one, not two, but three off duty Frederick County police officers who were working security for the theater at the time.  According to published reports, when the officers/ security guards asked him to leave, he mouthed off at them and “resisted arrest”. Those of you who know my son Landon can visualize what this would look like. In response, the officers wrestled him to the ground where he asphyxiated in handcuffs. The handcuffs were removed and EMS called and according to the police news release he later died at hospital. I don’t know how that reconciles with the coroner’s finding of asphyxiation which I thought was pretty immediate.  The price of a ticket at the cinema is between $9 and $11. The additional cost to Regal of allowing him to watch the movie again was ZERO. But instead a beloved young man died on the floor of a movie theater in his neighborhood at the hands of people he was taught would protect him.  The police officers remain on duty and were allowed to invoke their rights as police officers not to provide statements even though they were not on duty or performing official duties at the time. They were security guards in police uniforms.  The county police are investigating and the story has received local news coverage. Please share this everywhere both to ensure justice but also to raise public awareness.  Where is our humanity when a young, obviously disabled young man dies for the price of a movie ticket? My son is worth a lot more to me & society than eleven dollars.

i manage a group home for people with disabilities... this truly makes my heart break and this is exactly why i spend everyday advocating for people who otherwise may not be heard.. unfortunately there arent enough people out there willing to speak up when they see abuse happening..
