i fucking LOVE writing the dynamic between sasuke and kakashi like there is SO MUCH complication there!!!!!! the layers, bitch!!! the gay-on-gay violence!!!!!! they can barely say three nice words to each other, but each have each other in their 'top three most important people' lists. are they father-son???? do they hate each other?????? sasuke threatens to kill him every other week and kakashi hasn't looked at sasuke without judgement in two years but they also like to disassociate on the couch for hours together

so frustrating to me when people say sasuke needs to get put in his place… he spends the entire first part of the series getting the shit kicked out of him. by haku, rock lee, orochimaru, gaara, and itachi. even after vote1 we see him constantly struggle. he kills orochimaru pretty quick but his fights with deidara, itachi, killer bee, danzo and naruto almost kill him each time. he spends the entire series in and out of the hospital and sickbeds.

the whole point of sasuke’s character is that despite being very talented and naruto looking up to him, sasuke sees himself as the weak vulnerable little boy he was when itachi left. that’s why he wants so desperately to be powerful and not rely on others. so no one can hurt him like that again.

if you think he needed to be knocked down a peg with physical violence then you didn’t understand the point of his character at all… sorry to say it but you fell for his facade !

it really makes me so sad to read the beginning of naruto and seeing sasuke’s thoughts and stuff because we don’t get that as much later in the series but in almost every fight sasuke is described to be panicking and shaking and freezing with fear he was just so little and so scared

in a similar vein sasuke is always thinking about protecting other people. he will put everyone’s safety over himself or the mission to the point that naruto gets irritated with him. and i think that’s one of the big differences for naruto and sasuke especially in the beginning sasuke is so scared of losing what he has and naruto has never experienced Loss yet in that way. he has never had something to lose in the beginning so their perspectives on these events are so different and that’s one of sasuke’s biggest frustrations with him in vote. their reactions are so fundamentally different in that way that yeah naruto loves his team and wants to protect them but doesn’t fear losing them in the same way and that makes their approaches so different. naruto understands sasuke only when he experiences loss in the same way
