DENIM DIARY: IT'S ALL BAGGY BABY

Gone are the days oversized denim was confined to the category of ‘boyfriend’ jeans or the Mom cut. I’m neither male nor a Mom so, what now?

5 Ways to Wear Your Oversized Cut Jeans

ONE

First rule, oversized doesn’t mean unflattering. You’re better off in comfy sitting position than holding your breath in three-sizes-to-small jeans. To help with the silhouette, wear more of a cropped top or singlet to show off some more skin in that department.

TWO

It’s a cross-seasonal all-rounder look…wear slides, sandals or go bare feet rather than adding more chunkiness to the situation. If you’re like Sophia and choose biker boots for all occasions, role up the bottom hem so you can actually see what’s going on down there.

THREE

Belt It- a large sparkle number or vintage gold buckle as seen on Bella Hadid just about every time she steps outside. Make it a feature of the outfit, and make it tight. The more fitted the waistline is the more flattering the oversized legs will look.

FOUR

Add something special- whether its patches or pins, or buying designer-denim with a logo smeared across the crutch. *Note my Vetements had to be swapped twice before nailing the size. It takes time.

FIVE

Back to my first point, if you are stealing your Boyfriend’s jeans, go the whole way and have them tailored to your body. All it takes is some adjusting at the waist and legs and you’re set.

DENIM DIARY: ROLLA'S

Is denim back or did it never really leave?

I'm hoping its a combination of both, because here at Hatrik, we're known for, well...denim. And because of this, it's time to introduce you to our newest love-child, THE DENIM DIARIES. It was born from the question I get asked regularly, "what made Hatrik where it is today?" forcing the same answer every single goddam time.. 

"A $28,000 Gucci jacket in the window of their 5th Ave store." It wasn't only love at first sight, but the imagery that came from Alessandro Michelle's runway collection that year gave me more inspiration than my Tumblr page to date. From my first attempt at embellishing my younger sister's denim jacket to where we are now, it's a pinch me moment that can't be tailored with a chain stitch machine.

And hence, welcome to the first edition of our... 

#DENIMDIARIES

We kept it simple and we're back to basics, in a straight leg baby blue pair of ROLLA'S jeans. The only detail, a subtle fold over on each leg and my sister's Seven Heavens t-shirt tucked in. The brand is known for their grunge-inspired muse's and pastel cord flares, but with lack of exact dates, we're putting our bets on the mid-naughties as the best stimulus. And let's not forget about the Sherpa dark-blue jacket (I took poolside earlier this week- look below). I don't have many fangirl moments with anything mid-tone, unless you're stepping out of a Calvin Klein billboard its hard to rock- and i'm thanking ROLLA'S for making it for the top department. 

The best thing about a baby blue denim straight leg: you're not breaking the bank with every purchase, instead its tender loving care and some quality time. Both of which you can't buy. When it comes to a good pair, i'm a sucker for love, truly devoted to wearing them when their half a size too small, so that after a few bend and snaps they're made for me. If there was ever a tip: buy a size smaller and go for a run.
