I was going through some old files and found these character designs for my book that I never posted! I've been reworking some things, so the top two designs will probably get recycled, but the bottom three (Hana, Zahid, and Bahira) are still the main group!

I am slooowly working on this still, but I need to catch up on my other work right now, so it's temporarily shelved.

Hello! Sorry to bother you, but in the about section of your blog it says commissions closed, but your most recent post says commissions open? I just wanted to check, are commissions open or closed?

Oh, apologies!! They’re open currently, I completely forgot to fix that! I have gotten a few, but I’m still a little short of my goal so I’m still taking one or two commissions till I reach that!

Long version of my stupid loan drama below the cut if anyone is interested, and also because I’m going to be mad about this till I meet my grave.

My very terrible college Perkins Loan provider, ECSI, neglected to contact me for over a year or alert me that my loans had left forbearance. My other loan provider’s was contacting me as normal, and with everything going in and out of forbearance with Covid and then some of the repayment plans ending up in court and getting paused, and at one point there was talks of Perkins Loans getting canceled, I just naively assumed “Well, when I need to pay my loans again, they’ll tell me!” NOPE. In April I got an alert on my credit score and noticed that I suddenly had four loans in default. I spent like two weeks calling in circles between them, Dept of Education, and my college to try and figure out what had happened and it turned out that yes, ECSI had all my updated contact info and just. AT NO POINT DID THEY CONTACT ME.

No email, no letter, no phone call. Which as far as I understand, legally, they SHOULD do before sending anything into default. I even went so far as to contact a lawyer to see if this was something I could fight, but unfortunately the loan amount was low enough I’d probably end up paying more in legal fees than it would cost to just pay off the loan.

More ECSI complaining, ECSI apparently deleted all data of when I’d made previous loan payments for about 7 years when the defaulted me, they have no email contact you can use to communicate with them in order to retain a written record of communications, which I found out after a conversation akin to pulling teeth with one of their customer service reps, and even just find out a simple “Hey, when did my loan actually leave forbearance and then enter default?” took like three phone calls of me trying to find someone who could answer my questions with something outside of “Call your school :)” who would then just tell me to call my loan provider.

Anyway, eventually the (what I can only assume is) purposeful incompetence wore me down and I just set up a payment plan with the Dept of Education to pay the stupid thing off and get my loans out of default. It’s about $400/mo and I’ve just barely managed it so far, but dealing with it has just kind of snowballed with some other expenses this month and this month I am in the red. 💀

Anyway fuck ECSI, I wish them all the worst.

So unfortunately I’m hitting an ✨Emergency Commission✨ point again, the short version is some college loans went into default due to the loan provider’s incompetence and I set up a repayment plan to get them out of default but it has been more than I can budget for and after a few months of managing it, I’m having a hard time this month and need to open up some commissions to help cover the difference in my expenses and pay my rent.

I’ll be at RCCC in about two weeks and crossing my fingers that it’ll go well so I can pay the rest of this loan off (thankfully I only have about $2k left till it’s resolved), but for now I’m trying to make about $600 to cover my expenses till my next paycheck. So I’m testing out an idea I had - Adopt An NPC! Subscribe to my Ko-fi and $5/mo gets you access to two new NPCs per month! Each NPC will get a waist-up illustration like this, as well as a cropped icon, so it can easily be used with programs like Roll20. I feel like I’m always struggling to find assets I like when I’m running my campaigns, and I know I’m not the only GM who runs into this problem. There’s only one lil’ NPC up now (Hot Tiefling #1 as seen above), but I’m hoping I can build this into a really handy resource people can pull from when they’re running a game!

Subscribers can also make suggestions for NPCs, though I can’t guarantee I’ll use every suggestion. One of the goals of this is to allow myself to just have some fun and experiment between commissions, so for now I’ll just be going with what sounds the most enjoyable to draw each month. I may add in another tier where people can make more specific requests further down the road!

All the art is totally open for personal use, so subscribers are welcome to be as creative as they want with all the NPCs! I figured a blank slate (no name, no class, just the art) would be easiest for people to work with, but I do love making blorbos, so I can also release characters with bios and even character sheets if people are interested!
