I really love setting aside Shabbos each week as a ritual of gratitude for the parts of my family and my history that were there for me when my identity and sense of self everywhere else was uncertain. Not just far-off Austrian ancestors who passed down their faith and culture and recipes, but my grandmother, my sister, and all of the lived culture and lived custom that is still ongoing around me in spite of so much confusion and secrecy and opposition. I don't consider myself religious. But Shabbos is special to me nonetheless because, for me, it's all about the light we carry for each other.

So, unfortunately, I ended up not reading it and deleting it because the author and I differ on some pretty important political views, so I won't recommend it no matter how promising the content sounds. Hopefully I'll find another book with similar content that I feel more comfortable recommending. But not so far.
