In every walk with nature, one receives much more than one seeks.

A video mainly for the bird sounds. I took it for the loud one you hear twice, an eastern meadowlark, but near the end to my surprise a bobolink started singing in the air behind me. Both are birds I don’t get to hear or see around Nazareth so I’m delighted when I find them somewhere else! I took photos of both but none came out good enough to post.

My mutuals when I come online 🥰🥰🥰
It was rainy all day and not much activity, so here is a blast from the past. A couple of years ago, this Screech Owl visited the pond for a couple of times and night and was so wonderful to watch that I constantly hope to see this happen again.

not only should we all be striving for just that, but we also should always spell and pronounce "that is it" as "dassit"

#what is it about birds of prey#that makes them look supremely badass in profile#yet deeply nervous head-on?
I have no clue what you could possibly mean...
Mourning Doves can be a bit hard to love because they tend to dominate feeders here and there are so many of them, but they make up for it with their adorable goofiness. And they are one of the best posers 😆
when i say i like hiking, i don’t mean “eight mile backpacking trip with special gear and an emergency beacon” sort of hiking, i mean a three mile loop to go look at pretty things and then a huge brunch after.
this is in no way a slam on hardcore hiking, it’s very fun, but i mostly just need to lower people’s expectations when i say hiking is a hobby of mine
"No no, that's ranger hiking. I like hobbit hiking."
Birding definitely made me realize I like hiking more than I thought. I have exercise-induced asthma which particularly hates hills, and I was often embarrassed when “hiking” with groups in the past at how many breaks I had to take. I knew I had long stamina for walks (hobbity!), and would walk all day when touristing quite happily, but that didn’t seem to apply to hiking.
Then when I started birding, I found that I do not mind a steep trail because the breaks are built in! When I’m doing it for nature, I can pretty much ramble all day, and I need to be careful about time, not my breath or stamina. (Forex, one time I misread a map while birding on vacation and came back down from a hill summit on the wrong side for getting back to my hotel by dinner. Luckily my spouse was happy to drive and pick me up! And the chickadee gradient on that side of the hill was fascinating!)
Hobbit hikes forever!
