New Trailer (Spoilers ahead please watch it first)
This will just be a ramble so no pictures and will be structured very chaotically
We have a full unblocked view of the Justice Building, wow
We have the Happy Birthday Haymitch scene, Sid is so cute I don't think I can watch him die in the cinema, I'm just going to leave before Haymitch gets reaped to save the heartbreak of watching all those kids die, also Haymitch is such a good big bro to Sid, I think Haymitch would've loved a world where he and Sid were friends with the Everdeens
So we have a scene in the woods with a deer and purple and yellow flowers (the same colour as the necklace Maysilee gives Louella) while Lenore Dove is talking about the world without a reaping, I love it
Lenore Dove is crying, while Haymitch has just accepted that having a birthday on reaping day is just the reality and thinks there's nothing he can do. Lenore Dove has hope which makes the reality of her situation worse because she knows things could be better, but knowing that means she can see that there will be a better world if people work for it (I just love her)
at 29 seconds in we get to see Wyatt, Louella and Maysilee on the stage and Woodbine running right before he gets shot, and from where the camera is positioned, we're getting a head on view of the scene
That room was in the last trailer, what is it (the round one) I don't remember anything like it in the book
Elle has to be in front of the Heavensbee library, and wow that is a lot of books
Maysilee gets reaped and we get to see a closer look at hers and Asterids reaping out fits, plus Merrilees bow (also Grace Akary looks so much like a younger Paula Malcolmson especially with the blonde hair, I just can't get over the casting for this movie)
Haymitch and Louella, that's all.
The hug, the hug whyyyyy????
Hay and Sweetheart, and it's right before Louella dies, oh nooooo
Is that Plutarch watching the crash happen?
It's the potato scene (Beetee: science, Haymitch: I'm still mourning the girl I saw as my little sister)
The scene of Haymitch saying he wants there to be no more games, then a shot of Haymitch watching what would be the final complete games is genius, I think all the trilogy clips they used in this trailer is genius
Is that Haymitch embracing what he believed to be the end of the games, the poor kid
Is that him in Sub A as the explosion sets off, it's bigger than I thought
'has the power to change things over time', shows Asterid and Burdock doing the three finger salute at the funeral and then Katniss and Peeta at the reaping, wow that is genius
Haymitch is taking 0 dams from Snow, lets go
also does it say not yet rated, I think I have a suggestion for that: Rated D for Devastating
I've given myself the challenge to give every single tribute a name (yes all 1800 of them) but since I love making my life harder character wise I came up with a rule, no repeated names.
I'm fine with similar sounding names I've already done that. But I'm also including non tribute characters in this list (both canon and oc)
But since I've been doing it for ages and only have 35% of the names down, I really need some help with this so please leave suggestions below, unless it's your own oc because I will be sharing the names and I don't want to be stealing anyone's work.
Given what we know from sotr about how the Capitol utilizes the victors as propaganda and forces them to become what they create (ie. Haymitch becoming an alcoholic asshole), I'm shocked I don't see this take brought up more often. I think it's frighteningly likely that Johanna was not pretending to be weak.
I'm just saying, if I was drafted into a death game against 23 other teenagers, I would be horrified. We all want to imagine we'd do our best to survive, but realistically, 23 people die every year. Going off of statistics, the majority of us just got a death sentence. Having said this, I find it unlikely that Johanna was a bloodthirsty murderer in hiding like how she's characterized by both the Capitol and the fanbase.
While we can only speculate on Johanna's games, I imagine that she only started becoming a "killing machine" when she likely lost her own version of Rue, or maybe she lost her district partner. Maybe she saw them carelessly cut down in the same way she cuts trees. Perhaps she refused to kill anyone beforehand because she knew they had a life (similar to Katniss saying people and animals are different when Gale reminds her of hunting).
Anyways, I wish I saw people do a more in depth analysis of victors like Johanna or Enobaria (I guess just the "violent" ones) under the guise of how the Capitol's propaganda machine rubs off on the fanbase.
Yes. Just like with Finnick, Katniss, and by extension the audience learn that he's nothing like his Capitol persona. We really know nothing about any of the victors apart from Katniss and Haymitch, we only meet a fake version of a person who has changed so much from going through all that trauma. We know that Haymitch was very sociable prior to his games, only to become isolated afterwards, and we can infer the same for victors like Johanna (the fact that victors flip into their opposite after coming home I have no idea what Johanna's life was beforehand). Until we get their pov we really have to take every observation about them with a grain of salt.
I have been seeing a lot of talk recently about if there was a sixth book what would it be about, and i think i have nailed it down to a few options that I think would be likely.
We know it will be pre 74th games because they end after the 75th and we have seen both of them. we also know that there are no more tributes from district 12. and we know that we have seen the 10th, the 50th, the 74th and the 75th games.
That leaves 71 possible games. but i think we will probably not be seeing the nine before Lucy Gray’s game because that’s when the games became a commodity.
Now we have 62 games left. i think we can assume it will be someone we know of or something we have heard of. That leaves us with about 19 games total, plus two games I think are interesting enough that despite not knowing the names of the victors could be interesting. so 21 options.
of thoes 21 options, i don’t think we will actually see 2 of them because they were created by the movies. (porter millicent tripp and augustus braun) so back down to 19 again.
Now I don’t think we will see some of them for obvious reasons. we won’t see Mags because her game is so close to Lucy Gray’s and there is very little to add to what we already know with her. I don’t think we know enough about Woof, Palladium, Lyme, or Blight. I also don’t see her using a district 1 or 2 victor unless there is a specific reason (and I have two of thoes I will mention) just because her ideas seem to be focused on the more poorer districts (but I could be wrong) so I will also not be counting Brutus or Enobaria. this brings us down to 12 specific games I think we might see.
I think the 25th hunger games could be possible. it was where each district was forced to choose a two children to be victors, but at the same time i don’t see how she can follow any philosophy other than perhaps in order to say “see how you turn on each other” but that doesn’t feel like a thing SC would do for her deep philosophical thinking stories.
Then there is the year where a boy who was going to win resorted to cannibalism and katniss is pretty sure the game makers created an earthquake to kill him. That’s all we really know about thoes games, but it could be interesting to see in a “you are what you do to survive sort of way.
Instead of going in order of winning or district, of the 10 known victors left I am going to be going from least likely in my mind to most likely.
10: Chaff
I don’t think Chaff will actually be involved because his game is so close to Haymitch’s and seems to be similar emotionally/mentally to Haymitch. That said it could be interesting to see someone who chose not to get “fixed” after their games, he is missing a limb and has some other scars even after he has won his games.
9: Finnick
Finnick being this low is probably a bad call on my part, but we already know so much about his games and after his games that I can’t see much new being added. There is the fact that he is from district 4 and either volunteered before anyone else could or the person who was supposed to volunteer didn’t, but otherwise I think we know it all.
8: Wiress
Other than her instability during the games and that she was brilliant, we don’t really know much about her. It could be interesting to see her in the original games, we know she probably was stable during her original games, so that might be something, but I don’t actually see it.
7: Johanna
My beloved. This is a Finnick problem all over again. We know too much about her games! And yet she has some things going for her, we don’t know what happened to her family and we don’t know what he life was like too much after the games. We also know she hides her abilities at first which might be interesting.
6: Seeder
Seeder is an early on player of the game probably between the 25th and 50th games given the description given to us by Katniss. She is also described as one of the few victors who hasn’t turned to some sort of substance. And she is from 11 which I have a sneaking suspicion is a likely candidate for the next place we see characters from.
5: Annie
Honestly Annie and Seeder are almost tied in my head, but Annie living gives her an edge in this fight. But Annie could be interesting because we could see her mental health both pre and post games, and because we could see how mental health is treated in Panem.
4/3: Gloss/Cashmere
Like I said, this is the exception to my no district 1 & 2 argument. Mainly because I think it would be interesting to see siblings back to back. And because I can imagine going into the games, winning them but becoming disillusioned with them, then watching your baby sister have to do the same thing and believing it’s a good idea. Plus it could be interesting if we got to see back to back games maybe.
2: Cecelia
Who? I hear you asking. Cecelia is the most important character introduced in Catching Fire to me. She is from district 8, and most importantly she has kids. She is the only known victor to have kids. When Katniss realizes what the rest of her life as a victor will look like she thinks that having a kid would be a death sentence for them, that they would be forced into the games as a gimmick. But Cecilia has them, and that means either she chose to have them knowing the risk or was forced to, either way I must know more!
1: Beetee
Not only do I find this character incredibly interesting, he is one of the six living victors at the end. He is incredibly respectful and seems to be integral to everything that happens after Katniss and Peeta win. His relationship with Wiress could also be built on, as could the fact that the only thing we know about his game is how he won. Also I like him a lot, so clearly he is the best choice.
Chapter 1 for The Hunt is out. I'm working on chapter 2 currently.
I'm a bit nervous but also happy I did this. I'm really looking forward to sharing my ideas of characters and games and to see my writing improve as more fics are uploaded
This is my first time writing fics, so I'm a bit nervous but excited. I'll keep comments open on here and AO3, but please be nice. I'd rather have one comment that's just a thumbs up, than a lot of critical comments.
Please adhere to the tags, being a Hunger Games fic collection there will be dark moments and themes, it should be appropriate for anyone who reads the books though.
I'll try to post regularly but I can't guarantee anything. I have no set days to not put pressure on myself to get chapters out by a certain date.
Although these are world expansion fics, I can't guarantee that everything will adhere to canon, nor do I believe that all I write would fit great in canon.
Please read all the books, these fics were inspired by information in SOTR so unless you want to be spoiled for that book hold off on my fics for a while.
I'm terrible with coming up with last names, and unless they're a relative to a canon character there will be no surnames for my ocs, unless the poll majority wants surnames.
I'm fine without any kudos on AO3 as I'm just writing this for fun, but if anyone likes the fic give the post where I link it a like, I'll greatly appreciate that ❤️.
The link to my AO3 account is linked in my pinned post.
The first chapter for 'The Hunt' will be up by Saturday morning at the latest. It's a fic on the 11th games from the pov of the eventual victor Mags. And I'm aiming to get the full fic out by Christmas.
Question: should I include surnames in my fics, I am terrible with coming up with good surnames for my characters. I will only do it for the important characters
