Hazel was born to two drug addicted people, her parents giving her to her grandmother soon after she was born because they knew that they were not able to take care of her. Her grandmother took her in, raising her as if it was her own daughter, something she felt like she didn’t do a good job doing. When she was about two years old, her father was arrested for the murder of her mother during a drug induced rage, sending him to prison for life and leaving Hazel to stay with her grandmother for good. However, that didn’t last long, her grandmother dying of a heart attack when Hazel was five years old. Having no one to go to, the child was left to get put into foster care.
After bouncing in and out of four homes, Hazel was finally adopted into a family of four when she was eleven, leaving her to learn what it was like to be raised in a family that loved her. As she got older, Hazel found out that someone found out about her birth family, leaving her to finally change her name over to her new family’s name. She decided that she wanted to change what her family was known for, working hard for her scholarship to LSU, choosing to major in social work. Graduating high school was her ticket to get a fresh start and she needed that so she could get rid of people telling her who she should be and who people think she will end up being.Â
Graduating college with her degree in social work and a minor in psychology, Hazel decided to move back into the city and get a job working with children who have parents in jail like she did. When she was 23, she got a call from the prison, the brunette finding out that her father had died in jail. Hazel didn’t know how to react to the news since she hasn’t even spoke one word to the man, but a part of her felt broken due to the fact that was the only parent alive. Finding an apartment in Marigny area, Hazel chose to live close to her adopted family, the people not only loving her and accepting her for who she is, but helping her deal with the lost of her father.Â
Now, she is still living in that apartment, but Hazel decided to go back to school for her master’s as she works as a social worker, wanting to further her career in the field. Even though some of the cases hit close to home, she knows that she’s doing the right thing by helping them out and letting them know they aren’t the only one that is dealing with this situation. Hazel knows that she has a different life than most people, but she has never let it affect her, choosing to rise above a situation when she needed to. She graduated with her master’s in December, specializing in the job that she chose to do when she was a child.
Hazel is an outgoing and friendly person, always there to help someone out when they need it. She can be very motherly and sometimes get annoying with it, even though she never means any harm. Most people like to consider her to always be there for others and give advice, but she is always rarely one to take any, herself. Possibly due to her family problems, Hazel can have a small anger problem and get annoyed easily, but she tried to control it as best she could so she didn’t get herself in any trouble. She can be very guarded when it comes to her past and her family situation, not always wanting to tell the truth of what happened.
HAZEL’S FACECLAIM IS LUCY HALE AND IS PORTRAYED BY KATE.
