We love a girl floating in corduroy
“It harrows me with fear and wonder.”
I took a quiz that told me I was a Horatio and you KNOW my nerd ass had to draw that
Say hello to the newest party member of Wyverns and Weirdos!
This is Rook, she is very fighty and strong and gave me an excuse to use multiple photos of buff ladies as reference, and for that I thank her
I was recently commissioned to make character art for a friends new DnD podcast Wyverns and Weirdos
Say hi to Anya, Bertie, and Neumann! They and their party mates will probably make a couple of appearances over the coming months (partially because I’m commissioned to, mostly because they’re really fun to draw)
I've actually been able to draw a lot this month but a lot of it is for secret projects so here's the lil scribble that I've been using as a warm-up sketch all month
About 6 years ago I drew a little scribbly grumpy Gerard Way, and then 3 years ago I re-drew it, and then today I had an essay I needed to write so I drew this instead
The water colour brushes may be new but apparently emo is forever
*breaks out of hibernation to post art that I was meant to finish back in February and then descends back into the void*
So..... long time no see There's been a lot happening in my life, all uni related, and it's been taking up basically all of my time between performing, working, directing, assistant directing, and my own Masters work, so drawing has kind of taken a backseat (well, that and a re-emerging RSI in both wrists, wooooo) That being said, for some of my few days off I went to Sydney and saw 'Sami in Paradise' at Belvoir St Theatre and it was honestly one of the most astonishing shows I've ever seen. So much so that I couldn't get any uni work done until I drew this (Honestly tho don't expect this kind of productivity again, I'm about to go back to working 4 shows at once and life will be hellllllll)
And here’s the 2017 Year of Art!
Spot the months where Uni took over my whole life
*pops up from the ether*
So apparently I still can't draw hats or maintain an upload schedule. Whoops?
Anyway, here's a drawing of Detective Murdoch from 'Murdoch Mysteries' because if there's one thing I've done this year it's watch crime shows
A couple of months back I drew one of my friends as St Jimmy from ‘American Idiot’. At about the same time I also drew myself as St Jimmy, but I never posted it because I’m terrible. So, here it is, 8 months late but still pretty snazzy
It’s been 4 years since I drew the Sam on the left, and that drawing was actually the beginning of a year long battle with tendonitis
I decided to re-draw it to see not only how much I’ve improved but also how the focus of my art has changed, since 4 years ago I was SO CERTAIN that realism was the only way to go for me
Drawing on the left took 90 minutes, drawing on the right took 35 minutes
I got a new graphics tablet yesterday (!!!!!!!) and I decided to celebrate/test it by drawing some Californian sunshine
Breaking out of my months long Uni-induced hiatus (tbh, when are my hiatuses not Uni induced? This is what I get for being a post-grad) by doing some artsy selfies, otherwise known as self-portraits
References from show photos of 'Features of Blown Youth’, a play I did in my 3rd year
Every year for the past 3 years I've drawn my best friend and I as if we lived in an alternate reality where we were the stars of the TV show "Supernatural", and now we continue with the 4th installment! Maybe one day we'll change poses. The wonders of the future may never cease
The previous years can be found here
One last hurrah for my art and my artistic progress in 2016!
Note: You can pin-point exactly when my Uni Degree took over my life by when I stopped having time to sit and my computer and instead just carried sketchbooks around during rehearsals
For Christmas I drew a couple of my friends as (one of their many) dream musical roles
Second up: St. Jimmy from ‘American Idiot (the Musical)’
(this was meant to upload last night and then just.... did not. oops)
