ăCĂŠCi October Issue 20th Anniversary Limited EditionăBTSâ Interview Trans.Â
âNothingâs really changed baby, itâs my second year of kpop Iâm still 181 baby, only my heart grew taller Iâm the first in my class baby, I even got the rookie awardâ â 2nd Grade
Ceci: Last year, BTS swept all of the rookie awards. In articles, you guys were praised as âě ë°Šâ (lit.: put up a good defense). You guys seem to be a group with a lot of confidence.
Rapmon: We had the luck. And because Bangtan clearly stated what we want to achieve, we want to be a little bit more appealing to the public.
Ceci: What are you most confident of (in the team)?
Rapmon: Of course itâs rapping.
Suga: Composing.
V: Photo shooting.
Jin: Iâm hard-working, so Iâm always the first one to get up with Jimin and then wake up the rest of the members. I donât have a good memory, but sometimes itâs a good thing. Because when I read harsh comments online, I will forget it the next day.
Jimin: Passion? (Laughs)
Ceci: Debuting 2 years, what do you guys think has improved (within the group)?
V: Team work.
Jungkook: Now when I stand on the stage, I can see the red light on the cameras. (Laughs)
Suga: When I compose songs, I break the thought of âthis is the answer.â
Ceci: When do you get the feeling that you guys are popular?
V: When my aunties asks for autographs (laughs).
Jungkook: I can feel our popularity when there are a lot of fans in the airport. We went to Thailand recently, and I was so surprised to see thousands of fans greeting us at the airport.
Jimin: I feel touched when our foreign fans sing along to our songs in Korean.
Ceci: What kind of things would change being in 3rd year of kpop?
Rapmon: It feels like weâre in between of looking back and looking forward. Whether itâs our groupâs identity or our individualâs role, itâs a lot clearer.
âWho are we? Who? The rise of Bangtanâ â The Rise of Bangtan
Ceci: What are you in charge of in the group?
Rapmon: clothing and sense of taste. Because Iâm making music with the base of hip hop so our appearance is important (how we look in public is important). Before leaving our dormitory, I would give advice to the members about their styles.
Jin: Food. I like to eat, and I like to cook. Recently it was Jungkookâs birthday and I cooked seaweed soup for him. I make rice cake soup on Korean New Yearâs day (Seolnal) and also on our first anniversary; we made delicious food together. Iâm teaching myself to cook so I add in the ingredients that I want to put in.
Jimin: He puts in ingredients that Iâve never thought it would tastes good together. For example, he adds milk into kimchi fried rice. I was surprised that it tastes so good.
Jin: Ah, that was actually a mistake. (Laughs)
J-Hope: Iâm the link (that holds the group together). Since Iâm right in the middle (in order of age) so my role is a bridge between hyungs and dongsaengs.
V: Sociability. I can even bond with strangers really quickly. And Bangtanâs future (Laughs). I want to work in various areas/ fields in the future. Such as acting or entertaining (variety shows).
Ceci: Whatâs the advantage of men living together?
V: We are like blood brothers.
Rapmon: We can borrow and wear each othersâ clothes.
Jimin: We are guys so we do things really quickly, whether itâs packing luggage or cleaning.
Rapmon: Because J-Hope hyung and Jin hyung are neat so theyâre in charge of cleaning.
Ceci: It must be fun being together.
Jimin: Maknae Jungkook is so funny in the dorm. (He lightens up the dorm)
Jungkook: Iâm very active when Iâm with people that Iâm close to but Iâm shy in front of people that I just met.
Jin: When we go to practice and then come back to the dorm, all 6 members will be lying on the floor, but thereâs Jungkook, doing the laundry by himself. (Laughs)
Jimin: His physical strength is incredible.
Ceci: Is Bangtan a âdemocraticâ group? For example, when it comes to deciding what to eat or who sits on which seat in the car.
Suga: Mostly itâs decided by majority votes. I canât decide what to eat so someone else can decide.
Jimin: Only leader sits in the passenger seat and the rest is first come first served basis.
Jin: We donât like sitting in the middle, so we glances at each other (trying to read otherâs thoughts). Itâs really uncomfortable sitting there. But I always end up sitting in the middle. Itâs unfair for me. I asked them my shoulders are broad, itâs so inconvenient, why am I sitting in the middle, (laughs) so why not offer your seats to me!
Jimin: He has a bad personality. Typical Gyeonggi-do man.
Jin: Hey, Gyeonggi-do guys are famous for their good personality.
Ceci: Do you guys bet on foods?
Jimin: When we practice dance and we get hungry so we talk about food, and then including our dance teacher, we play the ladder climbing game/ ghost leg to decide who will buy the pigâs feet.
Suga: We also have bets on ice-cream.
Jin: When we finish eating, we play rock, paper and scissors to decide which two members cleans up. The chosen members hates it so then they decide which one will clean. (Laughs) As a result, that one member will be complaining while cleaning up.
Jimin: Recently, J-Hope hyung has been cleaning up by himself.
âFrom Seoul to Gangwon, Kyeongsangdo, Chungcheong to Jeolla
Tell them that we have come
We are real hot stuffâ â Satoori Rap
Ceci: What was most difficult when you came up Seoul?
J-Hope: The subway route is too complicated. Our dorm is at Sinsa station, and the express bus terminal station and Sinsa station are both on line 3, but I was wandering around for an hour. Â
Jimin: Me too! When I first came up to Seoul, I was asking the people around me âhow do you use the subway?â I didnât even know if I need to touch the ticket machine or not.
Rapmon: People probably thought you came from Andromeda.
Jimin: There are only 5 subway lines in Busan.
J-Hope: Wow, Gwangju has only 1 line. (Laughs)
Ceci: The intense trainee life was also difficult, right? What was your driving force to endure it?
Rapmon: The eager desire to debut. The dreams of receiving rookie award and achieving no.1 in music shows, being no.1 on melon chart kept me going.
J-Hope: My friendsâ support.
Jungkook: When Iâm having a hard time, Jimin hyung comforted me. He also listens to my worries.
Ceci: Shall we boast about our hometown one by one?
J-Hope: Thereâs a very tasty Korean food restaurant at the bottom of Mudeung Mountain.
Jin: When we go to these provinces for fansigns, each of us recommends good places to eat. There is Suga when we go to Daegu. There is J-Hope when we go to Gwangju.
V: Geochang, firstly, thereâs only me as a celebrity. (Laughs) Also, the apples are very delicious, and there is even catfish if you go to the rural parts.
Jin: We all have so much pride in our hometowns, so we fight like kids whenever we talk about our hometowns. In Gyeonggi-do, Gwacheon, all the residents are friendly with each other. Itâs to the extent that we know everybody, and also there is Seoul Grand Park. It takes 5 minutes to walk there.
Jimin: You havenât been to the market in Busan, right? Itâs more fun than the amusement park.
Jin: Have you been on the Elephant Train? It circulates through the Seoul Grand Park.
Rapmon: Of course Everland is the best when it comes to amusement park.
Jimin: Iâve told you to go see the market!
Rapmon: If Jungkook got involved, there will be a fight. (Laughs)
âI didnât think much of writing or poems
But it came to me suddenly like Shim Chung
U used to be a fight less bird but it opened my eyesâ â Hip Hop Lover
Ceci: How did you first encounter Hip Hop music?
Jimin: At first I was interested in dancing. Even when I came up to Seoul, I didnât know much about hip hop but the hyungs helped me a lot. Rapmon hyung even gave me a list of artists and songs. I dreamed of adding my vocals into the songs while seeing the hyungs composing music.
V: The hip hop music that I used to like are all well known songs and Rapmon hyung told me about traditional hip hop music. And since then I have fallen for it.
Jimin: You have to immerse yourself into hip hop and you canât force yourself to like hip hop, thanks to the hyungs that Iâve naturally developed an interest in hip hop music. During the trainee days, there was a room called âBangtan roomâ, I go there to listen to music, and have rap battles among us, and we dances, it was so fun.
Suga: I encountered music while I was 5th grade in elementary school. I started writing lyrics since 6th grade. I just thought that I have to make music.
âI was like an old lady
I had so much to say that is wasnât enough with what other people told me.â â Hop Hop Lover
Ceci: I have read all the lyrics on this full album. I think itâs very novel-like.
Rapmon: Itâs an occupation illness. Iâm always trying to come up with interesting phrases. For example, there is a phrase âę°ě§ę°ě§ íë¤ (doing various things) â then I associates it with tress âę°ě§ę°ě§ íë¤ę° ë돴 ëę˛ ě´ (Iâm doing so many things, Iâve become a tree)â .
Suga: These wordplays are called punch line. Finding these elements here and there in the album is also fun to do.
Ceci: Rapmon and Suga are the key roles in making Bangtanâs music. The two of you are probably rivals with good intentions.
Suga: As I look at Rapmon, I realize a lot of things. It helped me to develop.
Rapmon: In hyungâs music, it shows a lot of his own tendency. He has a lot of freshness. As for me, my style is more detailed like the feeling of putting the puzzles together. We have our own styles so thereâs a lot to learn from each other.
Ceci: Is there a song that is dedicated to the fans?
Rapmon: Officially there isnât a fan song but we releases songs (that was written during the period) on anniversaries such as our 100th day and 1st anniversary.
Suga: Personally, I wrote âMiss Rightâ while thinking about our fans. For example, lyrics such as âwhether youâre young or oldâ, âin between our couple shoes are a pair of baby sneakersâ. Since Iâm not good at expressing affections on a daily basis, so I write lyrics while thinking of the fans.
âI pulled all-nighters at practice rooms instead of school, dancing and singing
When you guys partied, I gave up sleep for my dreams
I spent all night holding a penâ â We Are Bulletproof Pt.2
Ceci: Iâm curious of Bangtanâs school days.
Rapmon: I had many friends. I was active and I liked to be eye-catching (the centre of attention) and I was the class president.
Jin: People say that I was frivolous. And my appearance has changed a lot since then. I was a short, undersized kid. I started to grow taller in 2nd grade of secondary school.
Jimin: I was the same as Rapmon hyung. I like to receive attention, and I danced on the stage during the schoolâs festivals. I received quite a lot of attention during secondary school. It felt amazing. (Laughs)
V: I rampaged through the corridors. I felt lonely so there were always people around me.
Suga: I was a quiet student but I really liked basketball. And whenever I played basketball, a lot of (girls) juniors would come and watch.
Jungkook: I was playful and I didnât study. I was an active kid that loved computer games. (Laughs)
Ceci: How does it feel to accomplish your dream at such a young age?
Rapmon: Iâm the type that is not easily satisfied, I feel that âI have come so far, now I need to go on a bit further.â Iâm giving myself a hard time, but this is my personality, so I would rather live intensely like this. (Ceci: so youâre a perfectionist.) If I was a perfectionist, I should be good at dancing too but Iâm not. (Laughs)
J-Hope: When I say Iâm tired, my friends who either attends university or are dancers asks me âbut arenât you doing something that you enjoy?â When I hear that, I feel grateful for what I have right now, at this position.
V: I always think that I need to work harder for members who are going through the hardship together.
âYou always give short answers like yes, Iâm sleeping, no
Your messages donât exceed 10 bytesâ â Intro: What Am I To You
Ceci: What is Bangtanâs Kakao chat room like?
Jimin: We upload many bizarre photos.
Jungkook: We also bet on who takes the funniest photos.
Jin: Usually, the three maknaes are always talking in there. Itâs a maknae chatting room.
V: When a member is getting his hair dyed, I secretly take photos of him while heâs sleeping. Iâm Bangtanâs Dispatch. Sometimes they even have funny expressions so please treat me well. (Laughs)
Suga: We also talk about important matters or things that we need to be beware of.
Ceci: Who is the noisiest member?
Jin: It always comes up Kim Tae Hyung, Kim Tae Hyung, Kim Tae Hyung.
Jungkook: Even if no one replies, he will still send it. (Laughs)
V: Me? I think itâs J-Hope hyung.
Rapmon: You two are the same.
Ceci: So who gives slow replies?
Jin: I have never seen Sugaâs name coming up in the group chat.
Jimin: He will never reply when you say a joke. (Laughs)
Suga: Because Iâm a bit blunt.
Ceci: If you look at the profile photo or status message, I think you will know who is who.
Suga: I donât have a profile photo or status message.
Jimin: Mine is a selca with an orange.
Jungkook: Nowadays, I canât seem to concentrate (feel restless) so my profile photo is black.
Jin: Maknae is going through adolescence. Fans say that I look like alpacas so my profile photo is a selca that I took with my alpaca.
âRight now itâs hope world from BTS
Everyone follows me, my potential gets retweetedâ â Cypher Part 1
Ceci: Now is the era of idols. What is Bangtanâs competiveness/ strength?
Rapmon: Bang PD always tells us to become the âunderdogâ. Isnât independently making music is also a strength?
Ceci: What kind of message does Bangtan want to convey through music?
Rapmon: We want to talk about the teens, the people in their 20s, our peerâs story. So Iâm always aware of the trends and issues that are going on.
Suga: They will be able to empathize with us because itâs about our generation.
Ceci: What is Bangtanâs this yearâs short term goal?
Rapmon: We will be having our concert in October. Itâs all standing but I hope we can spend a great time with the fans.Â
 SCANS & TRANS: KIMMYYANG
IN THIS ESSAY I WILL
The cast of Hamilton performing Alexander Hamilton at the White House.
Is it a question of if, Burr, or which one?
This is how I, living in Minneapolis, feel about going online today and seeing people talk about my city, my peoples pain and anger, as if they are here:
ummm and thatâs on ACAB
The "very good people" were openly White Nationalists with assault weapons, SCREAMING AT AND PUSHING authorities while protesting a lockdown put in place for their safety and others (but lbr, as Gretch said, they were really political rallies) inside capitol buildings. The "thugs" were unarmed mostly black people protesting the shooting murders of other unarmed black people, who were peacefully protesting before, ironically and predictably, every protest was escalated by POLICE VIOLENCE.
I love Jackie.
John boyega really do be on that king shit đ
James Baldwin on âIncremental Progressâ
Incremental change favors the privileged. Time is quite literally a luxury many oppressed and marginalized groups cannot afford. Centrism and âpragmatic incrementalismâ are crappy strategies for fighting Republicans. Iâm here for the fierce urgency of NOW, not for lukewarm moderates who care more about preserving order than they care about justice.
Always reblog because this is the best way Iâve ever seen it put.
This opening 3 Stacks verse is my bid for best rap verse of all time. @ me.
