Do You Know What Damages Your Mind the Most? A Psychiatrist's Secret!
As a psychiatrist with over 15 years of experience, I have learned that a person's thoughts, happiness, and overall well-being are greatly influenced by the environment they live in and the people they surround themselves with.
The image of a rotten apple gradually affecting the healthy apple beside it is a powerful reminder of how negative influences can impact our mental health.
Recently, a patient came to see me feeling constantly exhausted and burdened by thoughts such as, “I can never achieve anything.” When I explored their daily life more deeply, the reason became clear. Both their workplace and social circle were filled with people who constantly criticized others, complained, and viewed everything negatively.
Just as a fresh apple loses its quality when placed next to a rotten one, a toxic environment can slowly erode a person's confidence, peace of mind, and emotional well-being. Over time, this negative atmosphere had contributed significantly to the patient's feelings of hopelessness and depression.
On the other hand, when we spend time with people who encourage us, inspire hope, and speak positively, our minds become healthier, stronger, and more resilient.
What can we do?
Protecting our mental health is our responsibility. Choose to surround yourself with people who motivate you, support your growth, and bring positivity into your life. Do not hesitate to distance yourself from unhealthy relationships and environments that consistently drain your emotional energy.
Create a space around you that nurtures peace, growth, and happiness—because the people you allow into your life can either help you flourish or slowly diminish your well-being.
