Hellooo I will be playing catch up soon on here and the rest of my blogs, had to get adjusted to a new job schedule but I'm alive!

"You ever make a man's dead heart beat again?"

"Wrong, I love my wife."

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FRIEND!" He is approaching at ninja speed with a bundle of bentos. All an assortment of food that reminded him of their home.

He jumps! It had been a quiet day, minding his own and reflecting on the years that passed, yet he didn't feel much older-perhaps it was part of already reaching adulthood.

Still, he turns and greets the other with the same delight as always, the scent of food hitting him and causing Rengoku to realize his how hungry he was.

"Tengen! Thank you, my dear friend. Come, I could think of no one better to spend the evening with."

"You came here without hearing anything about The Mistwood?" Dam-bi shouldn't be too surprised if she's being honest. Even the rumors were very hush, and if he had just arrived, then perhaps he hadn't had the chance to hear about the ones lurking in this place.

"Several creatures. You have the denizens...the mistborns, though it is up in the air what they really are. The Stalking Horse, the Hidden Trees."

There's a short pause, "There are people like me who call this place home. The angels, the demons, and me."

He gives a curious head tilt, almost owlish in appearance before he straightens up again, taking those words into account and realizing he was only familiar with one of those types of creatures.

However, Rengoku was willing to gamble that these were not like the demons he encountered from his original home. There was something much more supernatural about this place, and a expansive list of beasts he would rather face when he was in top form instead of his current status.

"Thank you, miss. I'm beginning to understand a little better now." He can't help but be grateful that someone would even spare him the cautionary words rather than leaving him to meander on his own.

"How long have you been a resident here? I have only just arrived, if that gives explanation to my ignorance."

Richeh just looks down and away from the adult. "It's very loud," she says. "Hard to hear your own voice."

The closest thing this strange adult will get to an apology from her. "Are you new like Richeh is?" If he is new, that would explain a little bit.

He nods, still rather enthusiastic despite minding his volume. Rengoku crosses his arms over his chest in thought, slightly tilting his head with a hum.

"To think that even children would be summoned here, how strange. I suppose there is no rhyme or reason to the force that draws people in. You mentioned your name, Richeh, correct?"

A hand is offered to shake despite her looking away from him, "Rengoku Kyojuro, a pleasure to meet you."

"Alas, I didn't get to see the action either. Your father and I stood guard over the Master's children the whole time."

He should tell him that his death made an impact enough to straighten his father out at least a little. But that was much too solemn, and they had flashier things to do with their retirement.

"Well, I'm not much for sparring after losing my hand, but I heard there is a vast market of food stalls nearby. We should start making our rounds if we plan on trying them all."

A mention of his father immediately gets him to perk, smiling so bright. Rengoku held no resentment towards him no matter the upbringing he and Senjuro endured after their mother's passing. He was happy, quite elated to know that he was taking care of himself, just as he asked upon his final words.

In fact, the former Hashira was giddy, eyes shimmering with a renewed vigor to explore this new world they had been dropped into.

"Of course! Lead the way, my friend!"

A new place! New foods to try! How exciting!

"Hashira!"

His tone carries without regard for the people around them, civilians who barely lift their heads in response to the shouted title. They didn't matter to him. Nothing mattered to him except seeing if the man ahead of him was real and solid.

"Is it you? Is this truly some strange afterlife? Have we ended up in the same place?"

There is the quickening approach of his footsteps, though he lacks the killing intent that would signal an attack.

"Turn and face me!"

Unmistakable.

That voice makes his breath still, every muscle within his frame going rigid as the sense of fight or flight rushed to the forefront of Rengoku's mind. Tengen informed him the battle was won—demons were eradicated along with Muzan, at least, they were supposed to be.

Yet he could feel that presence behind him, a firm reminder of the formidable opponent that was Akaza.

Would he falter again? Not in the slightest.

A hand rested along his hip upon reflex, turning to meet the amber gaze and those familiar marking of an upper rank, his initial chill turning into a slow smoldering flame below the skin.

"Akaza. To meet you today must be fate."

Even for the confirmation that everything was fine at their home, there had been something itching at the back of Rengoku's mind for the past few days. This place didn't seem to have a picky sort of system when it came to newcomers, every few days there was an eclipse, and all sorts of fresh people were plucked from their respective universe to be sent into this new nexus.

Which only made him more wary when he was able to come across someone in more traditional wear that was familiar to his gaze. Someone dressed a samurai, in this place?

"Pardon me, sir."

Watching his volume, right.

He gives a nod and squeezes Rengoku's shoulder. A reassuring gesture. Hearing about the Master dying had shaken all of them to their core. Even if it was only a matter of time with his condition, it was still painful. Most of them didn't have a place before Ubuyashiki took them in.

"I wasn't part of that final battle, but the others... they did it. They found Muzan and ended the war once and for all."

He looks proud to speak of the young Demon Slayers who fought so valiantly.

"We won because of the strength of our allies."

There's such a deep feeling of comfort that washes over the former Flame Hashira. To know what despite the Master's death, everything had come to an end. An era of peace was sure to follow back home, and that would be enough for Senjuro to follow his own ambitions without the pressure to become a swordsman.

He was happy, he could rest easy in this new place.

"I only wish I could have watched them in action, but I couldn't possibly express my pride in words alone."

His shoulders relax, looking to the taller, "So, what shall we do from here now that we both entered retirement, my friend?"

"Yeah, it's a bit of a weird name. I get that reaction a lot."

He can't help but laugh when Rengoku pauses at the name, no doubt tracing the meaning of it in his mind. His sister drew the shorter stick, with the worry tucked into the kanji of her name.

Thoughts of Yuuka draw him back to the task at hand - right. The ring. That stupid freaking ring.

"I'm not sure. I'd have to see if there's, like, a lost and found or something? I'm missing a few more things, but they aren't nearly as important as the ring. Well. Sort of. I'm kind of mad about my sword."

He blinks at the way Rengoku says things are too advanced for him and Tsurugi pats himself down for his phone, drawing it out of his pocket.

"Advanced, huh? What, uh, year was it back home for you?" Because this thing is like a dinosaur to me.

Now that he thought about it, his own sword had been missing upon arrival. Perhaps this was a condition of entering this realm, that someone was stripped of their weapons and skills?

Somehow, it felt like a prison in that mindset. Perhaps, it was better not to think of it that way, he was given another chance to walk the realm of the living after all.

"If I am remembering correct, it was around the Taisho era! That would mean...somewhere around 1912 or so."

He makes the statement so casually, not quite aware of how long ago that even was, "I was rather stunned by the use of vehicular machines within this city, we would only see them in passing through much more populated towns. Very nicely crafted, however!"

"You will get used to it," She says matter-of-factly. He wouldn't be the first to question why a child was out here on her own, and he won't be the last, that's for sure.

"If you stay here in the woods, though, you will become its prey." The Mistwood wasn't safe for a lot of people. It certainly was not safe for those who had only recently arrived.

The advice is taken rather easily, considering he was a stranger within this place. His wandering had led Rengoku to unfamiliar places before, but at least then he was able to counter any dangers with his honed sword abilities.

Here, it seemed he was stripped to his bare strength, something new to acclimate to.

"I see, then if you are capable of keeping yourself safe, I will not question it." His gaze is steady, but curious even still, "Perhaps you can enlighten me on what resides in these woods?"

It was so refreshing to have his friend back. Even more so, when Rengoku spoke so highly of his efforts in a battle he didn't get to witness. It was messy and destroyed the entertainment district as a whole.

But- he made it out. The boys in his care had made it out. And his wives had made it out.

That was all he could have asked for.

"I was happy to survive. The fight is in my blood. Even after retiring, I couldn't stay completely away. Being sedentary gnawed at me night and day. So I came back to help train the lower ranks. And stood by as a guard for our Master's children once he was gone."

Of course he knew time would carry on long after he was gone, that is simply a way of life. Rengoku was never a man to live with regrets, not even now. Tengen spoke of all that occurred after, that the ones he cared for survived, and for that he was grateful.

However, the mention of the Master passing, struck him a little hard.

A part of him knew that Ubuyashiki was not long for the world, most of the heads of that clan never made it past his own age of twenty, which he learned from his father. Yet, his mind couldn't help but linger on the thought of saying goodbye.

It's a natural want when someone makes such an impact on your life.

"I see. Tell me, my friend, did we win? Were the demons banished?"

The tiny, blue-haired child stares up at the loud, owl-eyed adult. Her face makes a rather sour expression.

"Richeh doesn't need to be shouted at." She grumbles - hopefully audibly enough for the adult to hear.

There's an immediate perk, almost enough to make those tufts atop his head to stand, his bright gaze falling down to the younger. Ah, he was quickly learning that his usual volume wasn't appreciated by many here.

"My apologies, little one. I'm still learning to even out my voice in this place."

“I’ve been hearing a lot about you...well, from you.”

"Have you now!!"

Ah, right. His volume.

Rengoku cleared his throat and made an effort to quiet himself to a more even tone, one that wasn't so...overwhelming.

"I can only hope it's been good things."

“You might want to keep your voice down.”

Those lips immediately purse at the comment. Rengoku was at least a little self aware of his voice carrying louder than most, but it was majority due to his poor hearing.

Still, if he was causing a disturbance, he didn't want to continue! That would just be rude.

"My apologies. I will be more mindful going forward, miss."
