Hi Cassie!! What made you decide to change TWP to be set in 2016 instead of 2015?
I wanted the characters to be older, considering what they go through.

Pokemon Go has nothing on me trying to catch Cassandra Clare with her asks open
Hi Cassie! I was wondering what your relationship with your characters is like. Do you view them as your friends, your children, your creations or something else? I feel such a deep connection as a reader and I can’t imagine how much deeper that goes as an author!🩷
This is such a lovely question.
I don't think my relationship with characters is quite like having children or friends, because those are relationships with real people. Characters are something stranger than that. They're part of the toolkit of telling a story, but they're also repositories for things I've observed, experienced, wondered about, or imagined. They often contain pieces of people I've known, pieces of myself, and pieces that are entirely invented.
Sometimes I think they're a bit like diary entries: snapshots of thoughts and feelings I had at a particular time. Sometimes they're more like the imaginary friends I had as a kid. I traveled constantly when I was young, and I spent a lot of time inventing companions. I knew they weren't real, but I invested enough imagination in them that they became deeply meaningful to me. Characters feel a little like that. I know they are not real but the work put into them makes them important.
My relationship with them is also very different from a reader's relationship. Readers have the wonderful ability to experience a character almost as though they're meeting another person. I don't, because I know how they're built. People often ask me, "How's Ty doing right now?" and my honest answer is that he's not doing anything unless I'm writing him doing it. He's not lonely or waiting for me; he's simply not in motion until the story begins again.
I think that's probably the biggest difference between being the author and being the reader. Readers get to believe in the reality of the characters. Authors can always change those characters in a way actual people cannot be changed or altered and that power over them is a constant reminder that in fact, they are not real but serve the same thing you, the writer, do: the story overall. In some ways it's a bit sad we never get to experience them like you do!
Benedict Lightwood really took "would you still love me if I was a worm?" to the highest level possible
incredible that will's curse dictated that those who loved him would die, and yet those who loved him the most never did. not in his lifetime at least, and not for a long time after. jem was always meant to die, and yet still he lives a century and a half later. and tessa, while she was always going to be immortal, should never have been able to carry that life farther into a next generation, and yet she was able to spark new life with will. it's all continuity and perpetuity and new beginnings and, in everything filled with love that surrounds will, the very oppostite of death.
EXCUSEME HERONGRAYSTAIRS CONFIRMED ON A RANDOM THURSDAY AM I DREAMINGGG????? THIS ISNT EVEN A JOKE LIKE SHE LITERALLY SAID THAT??????
IM GONNA TALK ABOUT THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE
“everybody loves jem carstairs, he’s impossible to dislike” i say into the mic
nobody boos. everybody cheers, will and tessa applauding the loudest because it’s true, james carstairs is universally adored and has no faults.
Down bad Herondales part 3
Will, after telling Magnus about the curse, saying "if there is no one in the world who cares for you, do you really exist at all?"which is a direct quote from one of Tessa's letters/diary entries from when she was held by the Dark Sisters
And then, her finding said letter in his room in her favourite book
(and this is ignoring completely the way Will went to Magnus to ask him to send him to the demon realm in the hope that he could lift the curse and be free to love Tessa)
we as fandom do not collectively respect tessa and jem enough for living in the modern world where they inevitably have learned about polyamory and them not burning down the entire world in a fit of rage that they didn’t know about it sooner
Yes girl this is YOUR sign to block everyone in real life who you know doesn’t gaf about your ass
Is anybody else thinking about the Whispering Room scene? No? Just me?
Inspired by this.
cordelia carstairs is so strong because if my longstanding crush that i was gatekeeping and had no competition for suddenly became newest hot stuff on the block and everybody wanted a piece of him i’d literally kill myself
