I’M HOME !!!!! had to work at the animal centre for TWELVE HOURS TODAY so i’m beat. gonna chill out for the night, catch me on skype at yogaplants & in-character on k!k at avians!!!!
“Unfortunate, yikes. And don’t worry about it, I don’t get my meats at a grocery store. I have a butcher for that–he’s a bit of a creep too, but he’s serious about his pork chops.” Cade snorts a little bit, shifting the flour from one hand to the other and joining the stranger in his conspiratorial glance around the store.
It’s the request that makes him laugh low and quiet under his breath, then he draws himself up with a wry smirk on his face. “Okay, let me see...future, future, future…” A deep inhale through his noses and a dramatic closing of the eyes always works to add a little showmanship to this sort of thing, but it’s not like he can conjure up a crystal ball or anything. “Got it. When you go home today, make sure to put your keys on the counter, where you can find them. Otherwise, you’re BOUND to lose them in the couch cushions, and be late for work tomorrow because you’re trying to find the damn things.”
HE’S DOWN TO PLAY THE PART. wide, glossy eyes, that juvenile look of wonder etched into each stretch of his features -- the whole shebang, just for him. specially rendered. at the end of the magic trick however he’s quick to let out a passive giggle, one hand propping down on his hip while the other busies itself with an accusative point.
❛ I’D GIVE THAT a c-plus, ‘cause i lose my keys everyday and it’s nothin’ short of a miracle if i’m ever on time. look, though, you got me all revved up, now. what else you got, look further. any knife fights? family drama? i might actually start buyin’ it. ❜
❛ you’re quite the CHARMER aren’t you ? ❜ she said with a raised brow as he seemed to spring back up in front of her. it seemed as though this guy could be more exciting than her husband, well ex-husband was their ENTIRE marriage, ❛ this sounds more like an invitation to watch you do potentially dangerous things that could get YOU in trouble because i’m just an young innocent girl. ❜ she slides out from the booth, taking a hold on his hand as she stood up, reaching in her purse to grab a couple of dollars to throw down on the table, ❛ but i can’t resist in taking up an offer from a near STRANGER. ❜ she feels as though she should probably let go of lincoln’s hand sometime soon but if she didn’t mind her shouldn’t EITHER, ❛ do you do this all the time ? leave work with pretty girls or are you just testing this method with me to see if it actually gets you SOMEWHERE ? ❜
❛ CHARMER, YEAH? dare you to say that again in fifteen minutes. y’know, when you get to know me a little more. ❜ see, she’s thinking DANGEROUS, which isn’t necessarily untrue -- danger follows lincoln around like a lost puppy, so much he’s accepted as daily routine -- but with another person? no, HELL no. gotta tone it down a bit, settle from potential maiming into TROUBLESOME.
a vanilla kind of evening, he promises, shifting to walk backwards; that free hand lurches forward to take hold of her other one for good measure, laughter bubbling from the pit of his chest to puckered lips. ❛ HEY! i swear you’re the first one. you’re my first time, matty, be gentle. let me buy you a twenty pack of chicken nuggets, or something else in that relative price range. we’re livin’ large tonight. ❜
“ you think aliens are out there? do you think they’re real? i mean, i’ve seen some pretty CRAZY shit , so i’m not dismissing anything. but i dunno. aliens, man. that’s just – somethin’ else. ”
❛ OH, SURE. i mean, they’re probably super sneaky, right? ain’t all green with these big eyes, they’re probably invisible. maybe they’re in here right now. ❜ cue the wiggly fingers and spooky whistle.
“Okay.” He snorts, which is a big step in the direction of open emotion for Holland. He’s amused — a little bit flattered, too, if he’s being honest. Could be the accent sweeping him off his typically firmly-planted feet.
“What’s your preference? Italian? German? I can do pub food that won’t put you in the hospital. If you had a hankering.”
GIVE HIM A MINUTE. cocked wrists press into the corners of his eyes, soaking up all that suspicious condensation.
❛ HONESTLY? i have a hankering for anything. chuck down a plate of green beans and i’d soak it up like it was christmas morning ------ uh. i dunno, that metaphor sounded better in my head. but, seriously, want me to pay you? gotta do something in return. ❜
there’s nothing ABNORMAL about today, sun in his eyes with the wind in his hair, ❛ RIDDLE me this : if a train leaves chicago at noon carrying twenty passengers, five of whom smoke, in four cars, what is the name of the conductor’s DOG ? ❜ oh yeah, he’s that guy.
SO, HE’S ONE OF THOSE. ❛ listen, bud. i didn’t graduate, and i’m barely scraping through life as it is. if you’re looking for an intellectual partner? ---- not your guy. on the flip side: if you’re looking for potential dog names, i got a list. ❜
He takes the flour gratefully, inspecting it over to make sure it’s just the right kind before tucking it under his arm. “I’m a personal chef, actually. And a psychic.” The joke is that he’s telling the truth–not that the other man would know that, and Cade gives him a quick wink to say just kidding. “I promise I’m usually a lot more fun, I just didn’t want to end up covered in flour, explaining to an angry grocery store manager just what the heck I was doing trying to reenact Cirque du Soleil in the baking aisle. I don’t know if you’ve met the guy, but he’s magnificently uptight. Not a guy you want to rile up. Besides, I had something way more convenient than a ladder on hand.”
❛ KNOW HIM? i worked for the guy. night shift, stocking. dude always acted like he had a fresh turd in his dress pants, for real ---- but, wanna know a secret? c’mere. ❜ lincoln darts his eyes both ways for insurance, scouting for any potential stocky managers shuffling down their private fortress of baking supplies. ❛ don’t buy cold cuts here. you don’t wanna know what they do to ‘em, but it ain’t right. promise. ❜
THE RETURN OF a thought strikes his fancy post-whisper and he’s straightening his back in a matter of seconds, childish grin reappearing as his elbow nudges softly into the man’s shoulder blade. ❛ a psychic, though? do you read palms or something? let’s do it. tell me my future. ❜
He’s still a little thrown off by how fucking sugary sweet that was (how heinous), so he blinks a little incredulously at the finger wagging in his face. ❛ Y’wanna tell me more over a drink? ❜ Or six. He offers his hand for the other to shake.
❛ UH, YEAH. man, fuck, i haven’t had anything to drink in... ❜ a mild recollection to his innovative breakfast plants a blank look on his face for far too long; it’s a solid twenty-five seconds until the space cadet shifts back into reality, a pleased hand cupping the one offered with gusto.
❛ -------- DAMN. ❜ now he’s laughing. ugly laughing. ❛ y’got a small hand. this a baby doll i’m holding? ❜
❛ WH– WAIT, WHAT?? ❜ too many words in too little time; it shifts her ability to process sentences off balance for a moment. her features change as what he says sinks in, and she finally settles on a grateful smile when she grabs the hankie, proceeding to wipe the chocolate off her face. ❛ thank you, i appreciate the compliment. —– and the hankie. ❜
❛ I COULDN’T JUST LET’YA walk around like that all day. seriously, i’d be, uh ---- in the shower, later, hitting my head off the wall. you’d probably see my demise on the news. ❜ thumbs up seem a pinch less formal than an impromptu handshake, so he goes for it. ❛ keep the hankie. it’s a stolen good from the olive garden. sincerely, me. i’m lincoln. ❜
@trappmouth.
THE WAY HE SPINS that patio chair around to sit down backwards-like unintentionally mimics the cool teacher from the 90′s aesthetic, and, in retrospect, he’s OK with that. here he is, bearing it all in a green apron and offering a finely packaged gift wrapped in wax paper.
❛ LOOK. none of my business, but y’seem like you’ve had a rough day. maybe month. year? who knows. it’s rough, buddy. you’re even scaring the pigeons away. shitmonsters. thanks for the service. ❜ sneaky, nonchalant fingers dawdle that bundle of food forward. ❛ brought you a brownie. ❜
leans her chin on his shoulder
❛ HEY, DOLLY. did’ja eat some breakfast? you feedin’ yourself, lately? you’re looking tired. ❜

❛ What the fuck. ❜ What the FUCK kind of cute ass answer is that? Seriously. Bile and attraction churn weirdly in his stomach. Why does it have to be this way? ❛ That’s the cutest shit I’ve ever fucking heard. How dare you? ❜
❛ RIGHT, YEAH. you’re weird, that’s next level nasty, and i’m not sure if m’ready to move on just yet. but: we’ll come back to this. ❜ an accusative finger weaves in and around the man’s face for dramatic measure. ❛ wanna hear more? i got PLENTY where that came from. shake my hand. ❜
❝One mochaccino and a blueberry muffin please, to go. And if you could just set it on the counter instead of handing it to me that would be—- ❞ Tony stopped, cocked his head to one side and stared for a moment. ❝You❜re the kid that busses tables at my favorite pizza joint.❞ He was also pretty sure he❜d seen the guy working at other places too. ❝Just how many jobs do you have?❞
❛ UH, YEAH! it’s like, weird you remembered that -- seein’ as you’re an important guy. i’m touched, and a tad stoked. for real. ❜ all this gets hollered on account of the crackling espresso, but he’s beaming -- bright face, cheery demeanor, unintentionally whipped cream-embedded hand perking so coyly on one hip.
❛ DON’T LIE; you come for me, not the pizza. not the coffee. c’mon, fess up. ❜
