What is this?

Schlocktober is a month-long writing and drawing event. It was established in 2025 as a response to a kink-free Kinktober calendar that became infamous for having way too many rules.

Its unconventional prompts and loose standards encourage creative freedom and reject morality policing in fandom spaces.

Direct your complaints to patheticfangirl.

Why "schlock"?

It means trash/junk (affectionate), and that's the quality of content I'm striving for with these prompts. It's also fun to say.

But, y'know, if you want to take a prompt and turn it into a masterpiece of a whumpy longfic, go for it. That's creative freedom, baby.

What fandom is this for?

Schlocktober is fandom and ship neutral. At the time of posting, there are 218 different fandoms represented in previous works.

What if I want to combine prompts? What if I want to write or draw things out of order? What if I want to make a video? What if...

Go for it. Get weird. Do an interpretive dance. Mix in last year's prompts if you want to. Let the spirit of schlock move you.

What does [prompt] mean?

You tell me. It's all open to interpretation.

Is RPF okay?

Yes, so long as it's clearly fiction. See rule #3 below.

There are rules?

Just three.

No AI use. Having the plagiarism machine do your work for you is the opposite of creative. A typo-riddled mess is better than AI-written fanfiction. A stick figure drawn on the back of a napkin is better than soulless AI slop art. Believe in your own ability to produce trashy works.

Tag appropriately. 'Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings' means anything goes. 'No Archive Warnings Apply' means your work is guaranteed not to contain any of the major archive warnings (non-con, major character death, graphic violence, or underage sex).

No irl bigotry or crimes. Your characters can be as problematic as you'd like, but if you try to post a weird pro-JK Rowling essay or threatening manifesto or something you're not going in the collection. Don't kill the vibes.

Only the most important thing of all: Have fun.

Fic Summary: Ilya Rozanov isn't handling the separation from Shane Hollander well, especially when Shane meets the beautiful actress Rose Landry. When Ilya gets dragged to a sex club by Marleau, he sees yet another post about the perfect couple on the way, so he drowns his sorrows in vodka at the bar. There, he can't believe it when two gorgeous Shanes approach him dressed in skimpy togas wearing androgynous makeup. Is Ilya imagining things, or is it the alcohol, or is it something altogether different tonight? Snippet: Ilya found it hard enough to disguise his interest in one Shane Hollander on an ordinary day, let alone a pair of them dressed as they were today. He had to hide his desire with an accusatory remark.

"The fuck, Hollander? Why are there two of you…? Are you trying to fuck with me?"

"Yes, we are both named Hollander," the other one laughed. "But that one is Shane, who you already know about. I'm his twin brother, Isaac. Nice to meet you. I already know of you, of course. You're THE Ilya Rozanov!"

Hi! We're mareastralis and AkirasStories and we've been writing fanfiction for quite a while now. We're huge fans of Heated Rivalry (both the books and the TV adaptation) and, of course, we love writing Hollanov ourselves.

As the fandom has grown so quickly over the past months, we've noticed that it can sometimes feel surprisingly lonely to be a writer. There are so many talented people creating amazing stories, but not always many opportunities to connect with one another.

We've also noticed that, as the fandom keeps growing, fanfiction can sometimes start to feel more about consumption than community. It's easy to scroll, read, move on, or forget that there's a real person behind every story who spent hours, days, or even months creating it. At the same time, online spaces can sometimes become unnecessarily harsh, and that's the opposite of the environment we want to foster.

We want this event to be rooted in kindness. We want people to leave comments because they genuinely enjoyed something, encourage writers who are just starting out, celebrate each other's successes and remember that fandom thrives because people choose to create and support one another. We believe that a little kindness goes a long way, and we hope this camp can be a small reminder of that.

Strating in August, we'll post one main concept and seven daily prompts. (Here you can find the first prompts.) You can write for one day, several days, or all seven—whatever fits your schedule and inspires you. Whether you write 500 words or 50,000, you're welcome here. If people enjoy the event, we'd absolutely love to keep it going and turn it into something we can all look forward to regularly.

More than anything, though, we hope this becomes a place for community.

We want writers to cheer each other on, leave comments, celebrate every finished fic, brainstorm together, ask for advice, share headcanons and simply have fun creating again.

With AI-generated writing becoming more common, we also wanted to create a space that celebrates human creativity. We're proudly anti-AI when it comes to fanfiction.
