i like when a piece of media says that an all-powerful character "sees humans as insects" because that really could mean a lot of things. maybe they view us as insignifigant and will squish us under their boot. maybe theyre actually studying and cataloguing us for their thesis paper. maybe theyre campaigning for human protection because we're an important part of their ecosystem. maybe they see a human and go "ew ew ewwwwww someone get the cup and get that FREAK out of my house." .
The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.
Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.
No carb, engine donāt start. No protein, engine dies out fast.
Easy carb add on:
Cookie
Fruit (canned or fresh)
Chips
Piece of bread
Popcorn
Crackers
Easy protein add on:
Nuts
Spoonful of nut butter
Cheese
Roasted chickpea snacks
Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
Small canned sausages or similar
Sugar in there.
I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
#google translate does not capture the tone switch so i have to say. first two sentences are like. normal maybe kind of feminine posting tone #& the last is like. shounen manga protagonist. action movie hero. jojo's bizarre adventure character. #the tone you would use if you were holding a gun with the safety off (ā @chadlesbianjasontodd)
Basically, a translation could be:
I just think it's so interesting that people end up falling in love with their friends' boyfriends! I absolutely despise every single one of them. give me my fucking homie back you goddamn bastard
translation tags by @minothtime because they are so so good
Man i feel really bad for the guy who wrote this article because the article actuallyĀ manages to raise a very very very good point but the way the headline is phrased completely omits 95% of what they were trying to say
And because i know people wonāt even bother to click and check the article itself iām gonna screencap it, itās fairly short, give it a read:
tl;dr: the articleās point isnāt ācorporate satire is not funny anymore as in āwe should stop making fun of corporationsāā, the articleās point isĀ ācorporate satire is not funny as in āitās extremely depressing to live in a capitalistic hellhole and corporate satire aims more to poke fun at that without actually making you think about our world or giving you hope for a better future, and therefore itās just lost its biteāā
Thanks for the screencap, I did try to read the article but the ads on that site were insane.
i just know vulcans are extremely kinky and have fetishes only the depths of tumblr could comprehend
opened up ravelry to look at patterns and the very first thing i saw was
The Garment by Robert Cole
went to read the Ravelry and that was such a treat:
Let the Garment envelop you; experience its heft and splendor. The original Garment pattern was knit in the round, from the bottom up, and designed for someone six feet in height. A simple adjustment of the number of stitches you cast on will allow you to customize the length. Follow The Garment on Instagram: @HeftAndSplendor Update, Aug 9, 2026: Many thanks for all the Garment enthusiasm in recent days! In response to sensible feedback, Iām developing and testing two alternate versions of the pattern: one for children, and the other a top-down version. Iām not entirely sure why I chose to make the first The Garment bottom-upāit almost certainly makes more sense for sizing, etc., to make it top-downāalthough I will say that casting on 300 stitches for the bottom of a The Garment feels like quite a leap of faith into the great unknown. In any case, both new versions of the pattern will be included in the update and sent to everyone whoās already bought the original pattern.
The pattern for the Garment costs only five usd so if you are a knitter and you want to make something beautiful and baffling, there you go. I do almost want to learn to knit so I can make the Garment.
(Also there's more pictures of people wearing the Garment at the Ravelry page and they're all FANTASTIC.)
For those who needed to hear it today
As if Joanne couldn't get any shittier, she misgendered and insulted a woman who called for support, all because the woman had PCOS/PMOS and "didn't sound feminine enough."
Fuck her.
Your shitty children's series isn't more important than people's lives.
when did tumblr collectively decide not to use punctuation like when did this happen why is this a thing
it just looks so smooth I mean look at this sentence flow like a jungle river
ACTUALLY
This is really exciting, linguistically speaking.
Because itās not true that Tumblr never uses punctuation. But it is true that lack of punctuation has become, itself, a form of punctuation. On Tumblr the lack of punctuation in multisentence-long posts creates the function of rhetorical speech, or speech that is not intended to have an answer, usually in the form of a question. Consider the following two potential posts. Each individual line should be taken as a post:
ugh is there any particular reason people at work have to take these massive handfuls of sauce packets they know theyāre not going to use like god put that back we have to pay for that stuff
Ugh. Is there any particular reason people at work have to take these massive handfuls of sauce packets they know theyāre not going to use? Like god, put that back. We have to pay for that stuff.
In your head, those two potential posts sound totally different. In the first one Iām ranting about work, and this requires no answer. The second may actually engage you to give an answer about hoarding sauce packets. And if you answer the first post, you will likely do so in the same style.Ā
Hereās what makes this exciting: the English language has no actual punctuation for rhetorical speechāthat is, there are no special marks that specifically indicate āthis speech is in the abstract, and requires no answer.ā Not only that, it never has. The first written record of English (actually proto-English, predating even Old English) dates to the 400s CE, so weāre talking about 1600 years of having absolutely no marker whatsoever for rhetorical speech.
A group of teens and young adults on a blogging website literally reshaped a deficit a millennium and a half old in our language to fit their language needs. More! This group has agreed on a more or less universal standard for these new rules, which fits the definition of ālanguage.ā Which is to say Tumblr English is its own actual, real, separate dialect of the English language, and because it is spoken by people worldwide who have introduced concepts from their own languages into it, it may qualify as a written form of pidgin.Ā
Tumblr English should literally be treated as its own language, because it does not follow the rules of any form of formal written English, and yet it does have its own consistent internal rules. If you donāt think thatās cool as fuck then I donāt even know what to tell you.
i love this post
This is super cool! Also idk if this has any relevance whatsoever but if you wanna have an argument inside one tag you cannot have commas in it so thatās a real existing constraint that has forced tumblrites to construct commaless sentences and perhaps this has helped in adopting the custom into posts as well ok I have no idea if this is whatās happened just I think itās a reasonable assumption there might be a connection
^this.
The tags are absolutely a factor. You want someone to take a breath in the middle of a sentence, you start a new tag. You want to have, as seen here, this removable piece between commas (does it have a name?) - you have 5 tags in this sentence alone. And sometimes you just
pause in the middle of a sentenceā¦
and let your voice
trail away
look at all you precious brilliant nerds nerding about language you make me so fucking happy omg
language is this constantly evolving thing tbh, it doesnāt remain the same unless itās dead and the people who used it gone so seeing the evolution of the language used on tumblr is literally so fucking amazing i want to cry with joy at it
because we also add in words from other languages, or make entirely new words up as additional terms to denote something (see ātolā and āsmolā in relation toĀ ātallā andĀ āsmallā) and this is constant. we are doing this daily without any sort of breathing space because thereās millions of us on this hellsite and we are constantly talkingĀ and so the language changes day-by-day until we have general, universal rules for what to do in a post, what to add in our tags, how to add it, why we add it, what we mean by it
weāve created a language in the same way our ancestors all did: by building on the ones that came before and changing them to suit our needs and our system
and thatās fucking awesome okay
awesome
I love this so much and language is so great and Iāve noticed the lack of punctuation thing recently, even on twitter, and used it for like a specific kind of rhetorical effect. idk itās so fun I fucking love linguistics and the evolution of language
I also loved that the following one-word responses all sound drastically different out loud and showcase different reactions:
What?
What.
what
Oh hey! This is the post that caused me to write a thesis. Yall know this post is cited in like five different academic papers that I found while researching for it? @prismatic-bell is a username I see screenshots of in academia these days. P sure theyāre in the tumblr book too. Wild.Ā
Iām sorry, I WHAT?!
spock always hitting jim with wedding vow levels of devotion as soon as he needs even the smallest pep talk.
Star Trek has always had phenomenal makeup but my word, look at the detail here. The seam, the little wires barely visible, the glint of metal, the fact that Brent's actual skin looks like it's the fake part, it's just insane. And not even a drop of CGI used.
True love

A year or so ago I went to wood carving club with a bruised eye from my dog slamming his nose into my eyesocket and like every old lady there pulled me aside at some point to ask if my partner hit me here are some of the solutions they had in case he did.
-Replacing his vitimens with poision
- getting her brother to invite him out onto his boat and then killing him and dumping him in the ocean and saying he got drunk and fell off.
- get tboned with him in the passenger seat and then once he was in the hospital theres all kinds of easy ways to kill him like not washing my hands after a poop and then touching his wound casually.
-replacing his drink of choice with moonshine!?
- take him on a hike thats locally notorious for a rapid otter attacking hikers and once he had rabies I could just kill him any ol way and say self defense.
-One lady just cheerfully informed me she had a gun and only a few years left anyway

deriding things as performative is anti third space
im sitting on a patio at my favorite cafe rn and im hand stitching them hem of a dress im working on. and i can see why someone would say im being performative by working on something like this in a public space. but frankly theres no element of that. i just want to work somewhere that isnt my apartment. i want to be in public, i wanna chat with strangers, i wanna see the world. itās nice to hang out somewhere that isnt my home!
what i mean is when you say people are being performative you discourage them from doing shit they love in public. and thats no way to foster the world we want to see.
