Call Me By Your Name - initial thoughts. Full review to come later
I shan’t lie - I had ASTRONOMICAL expectations! I had fallen in love with the book, have been a die hard tumblr CMBYN stan and have been immersed in ElioxOliver feels since I put the book down in September - heck I am evening planning a tour around Italy with the aim of finding my very own Oliver. Oh and I am a huge cinephile...
So my here are my super initial, knee-jerk reactions to the film:
- Opening credits - pure genius. I haven’t felt like this in the lead up to the first scene (maybe) ever before
- Music is fantastic. It is almost like another character in the film
- As mentioned the chemistry between Armie H. and Timothée C. is éncroyable. Brava!!
- At times I felt some cinematography choices were lacking
- I need to understand the negative film choice in the latter part of the movie
- I didn't get emotional at the points I expected to get emotional at and vice vera
- There is a hallway scene which may be my favourite scene along with the balcony scene and peach aftermath scene
- I feel like my expectations ruined my experience of the film, and I wanted more
However please don’t get me wrong - overall this film is definitely up there with the best films of 2017. These are my opinions and are VERY FRESH.
