hello! this is a blog for me to talk about the hellaverse - mainly hazbin hotel - because i don't want to clog my main blog with it, because i have a LOT to say.

i enjoy the show, but i'm heavily critical of it, the fanbase and crew.

i really like the show myself besides that, so i don't mind interacting with fans, just be mindful that i will write a lot of critique about it and might snark from time to time and i don't feel like discussing that. this is just my opinion.

needless to say this is not a spoiler free blog. might post commentary/review on the episodes when they are released.

going to get super fanon in this but i headcanon lute as a sapphic dealing with comphet and internalized lesbophobia who projects her hatred for her own sexuality into vaggi and that's a huge part on why she hates her. so imagining a similar dynamic where her superior is also a lesbian is so funny to me. girl is going through it

I don’t like episode 3 of hazbin but the one thing I did find amusing was how much vox and velvette play off/parallel eachother and how forced Valentino is in the trio. Because unlike Valentino, Vox and velvette have actual media related powers, and are both influencers. The show tries to tell you that Valentino is suave and has charisma but he’s just a moron. Vox and velvette have actual charisma and more competent than Valentino. Velvette contributes a lot more when it comes to helping Vox with managing the press, the vees image and brand and PR/damage control.

Valentino being called the “film overlord” is really funny because all he does is film bad pornos that the show makes fun of and the directors said that love potion was created by velvette using Valentino’s saliva? Or that pink stuff he produces so without velvette, Valentino wouldn’t be able to roofie employees. But the show once again tries to tell you that Valentino it’s important without showing him do anything besides deliver Angel to Vox when Angel got a text saying he has to go to work and he told husk he was going to work, aka going to Vee tower so Valentino taking Angel to a motel was unnecessary.

Anon, you hit something hard on the head that goes into the misogyny of the show. Velvette is treated by Vox like a child, that she can't handle anything on her own and is too hot headed to be an asset beyond her ability to spin narratives.

But she's literally the most intelligent and grounded of the three who has the most material things going for her. She does social media, fashion, product lines for the roofie drug as well as cosmetics and beauty. She is the one who plays off Vox way better than Valentino. And then with Valentino, she's the one who actually articulates how Vox has become someone else and how she doesn't like it.

Honestly, she deserved VoxTech way more than Val, but for some reason he's the one who gets a new outfit and calls himself CEO while Velvette just vanishes.

I like Velvette, too bad she's a woman and has all her actual accomplishments minimized for the illusion of control and power that the show gives Vox and Valentino. Velvette should have the most influence and be the next boss of VoxTech, not Val.

And you're absolutely right about the fact that Valentino is treated like a joke overall, even in-universe. And the fact that the motel scene was absolutely someone's personal fetish material. Everything Valentino does is baseless and the audio commentary openly calls him an idiot. But that's also the main villain of the darkest storyline in the series.

Talk about tonal whiplash.

I think the fact that we get zero sense of a culture divide between Charlie and Emily is such a clear sign of how poorly thought out this world is. Charlie was raised in a world where Porn is the dominant Genre of film. I don’t think emily would realistically know what porn is. And they act like the same character except one swears. Like Charlie doesn’t even react to the gift baskets. She should be deeply upset at how tasteless heaven is being here, but she’s just not in tune with “her people” at all.

i find the way sinners are represented in helluva boss way more funny and entertaining than the ones in hazbin. i tried to analyze why and i came to the conclusion that they are people who did objectively bad things (mostly murder) because of ridiculous or petty reasons. take mayberry for example. she murdered her husband and attempted to murder his mistress because he was cheating on her and then killed herself. or the rich guy, who was a archetypical evil millionaire. they're actually funny because they are ridiculous and over the top. i feel like we don't get that with hazbin because they are genuinely horrible people who do bad things and they are probably too realistic in a way it makes people despise them even if they try to make funny bits with them like the ones they do in helluva, but that's why it doesn't work. it's pretty interesting how the difference in tone really affects the intention also. helluva boss does have some dramatic themes with the main characters, it's mostly comedic, while hazbin has some comedy but it's overarchingly dramatic and expects you to take it very seriously. also the way they haven't shown sinners who genuinely want to redeem themselves or feel guilty to contrast the existence of unapologetically evil sinners to actually feel the moral conflict emily and sera have, and charlie's idea of redemption vs. the black and white genocidal worldview of adam and lute is pretty disappointing for two seasons/halfway the entire show

also the other night i was thinking there was a lot of potential for a pentious/abel parallel.

pentious went to hell for inaction and atoned by taking action thus earning redemption, while abel's entire thing apparently is that he's too indecisive and nonconfrontational to take action that he didn't even felt comfortable getting revenge for his father's death despite actually caring about him.

they're both in heaven so there's a lot of opportunities for interactions between the two. pentious could've been the one who ultimately motivated abel to start taking an active stance. i can't believe they fumbled it it was right there.
