Intro

Добрий день. My name is Alexandra. Shorten it as you wish. Most people do Xan. I'm not too picky. I'm a Ukrainian-American pagan and witch.

Loki is my patron, but I also honor several other gods. Apollo, Hestia, Aphrodite, Dionysus, Odin, Hel, Lady Lilith, and Baba Yaga are people I either frequently petition, reference, or just have a special place for in my heart. Loki is my primary one, though.

I'm an author, a gothic horror enthusiast, a hobby baker, and I love the textile arts. I might start posting some of my work here, but I'd prefer to keep this as more of my witchy space.

Hedge vidma? Bit of a weird name, sure. Hedge witchcraft is probably the closest term to describe my current practice, but I prefer to think of myself as more of a folk practitioner generally. I try not to overcomplicate it. Vidma is a Ukrainian term meaning witch. That's all it is. Just a gesture to my ancestors.

Asmodeus

One of the Goetic demons of Hell and a King, under the command of Lucifer. This information was shared to me by Asmodeus and is also my own experiences through working with this marvelous being. 

Some of his other names: Asmoday, Sidonay

Rulerships: passion, sex, valour, inner-strength, dedication, protection, compassion, healing, destruction, desire, willpower, and other matters of the heart 

History: Asmodeus is one of the many ancient gods who pledged themselves to Lucifer, to serve him in his Kingdom after the Rebellion against the Abrahamic god. Lucifer is the divine Light of Creation who led the way for freedom and empowered the other deities who followed him. Asmodeus as a god is connected to the land of Sidon and is a Lord of the Seas, showing his closeness to the realm of emotions. He is also very close to his High King and Queen- Lucifer and Lilith, for they see each other as family.

Appearance: A strong and attractive young man with shoulder-length black hair, fiery orange-yellow eyes (like burning embers), black draconic wings, and ram horns. When angered, his hair catches in flames and burns to become short, blazing like embers. His horns become more prominent, and his eyes become even more fiery. He goes into battle with a staff or sword commonly, but sometimes with a mace. The dragon he is sometimes seen riding is a trusted friend of his from ages past. He can also appear as a bull or ram, which are aspects of his. His traditional art which shows him as having three heads is simply a symbolization of this. 

Personality: Asmodeus is tremendously strong at heart and holds a great deal of wisdom and passion. Overall, he has a very resilient and noble attitude, and is also connected to lust and domination, as he indulges in sexual pleasures. Asmodeus enjoys luxury and sensuality, but can also be very dark and serious when needed, and can become quickly impatient with those who earn his disfavour. He can also feel war-like at times, but in a way that is similar to heroism. But his darker side, however, is called Asmodai, who is one of the most destructive and terrifying of all the demons.

Asmodeus is a master of emotions and knows how to rapidly gain favour by playing to the emotions of crowds, masses, or even single persons. He doesn’t have to lie, he simply uses emotional reasoning to appeal to peoples’ hearts in order to be convincing. He tends to be very kind-hearted, loyal, passionate, and steadfast. 

What he can do: gaining inner-strength of all kinds, creating compassion between foes and friends, protection, destruction of abusers, justified revenge, connecting with sexuality, becoming adept at emotional persuasion, overcoming obstacles

"Open" culture doesn't mean you are "welcome"

A lot of cultures are "open". A lot of traditions are "open". But that does not mean you are welcome there. Your actions and how you conduct yourself are what make you "welcome" in a tradition. Acting like you can do whatever you want to someone else's home is not what makes you welcome. That makes you an appropriator. A coloniser.

And this is a mistake that many people who are "pagan" make. They just take and they do not ask.

They walk into someone else's open door without asking "What are the rules? Would you like for me to take off my shoes here? What is sacred so I do not disturb it?"

Your mindfulness to learn from an open door is what makes you welcome. Not what you can just take. It's not an invitation for people to be robbed from. Open traditions are doors for you to learn a people and their beliefs. Not to steal to suit your personal agenda.

Posting this, hoping it might help anyone else feeling the same way!

I’ve been experiencing serious burnout and have felt terrible that this has outwardly affected my devotion toward Loki, and my relationship with others.

And this morning I just sat on the couch feeling defeated and lost in this swirl of freezing emotions, and I decided to write a poem to Loki, apologizing for the unfinished altar, the broken promise of poetry, the lack of motivation to do…well…anything…The deep self-hatred and paranoia that has mentally debilitated me…and yet still feeling empty…desperately wanting to do things but feeling unable…feeling trapped where I’m my own captor

Loki and I communicate a lot through writing, as since I was very young I’ve used writing as a form of meditation, so He writes through me at times

I wrote Him this poetry-

To try to apologize to Her and explain-

Loki

The trickster child of Laufey

Mother of monsters

He who dances in

The in-between

She who tempts fate

And lights the flame

And laughs

I feel so empty

And lost and numb

And pained

Like I’m being torn apart from the inside out

Is this change?

I feel stagnant

I want to belong

To you again

And be free

By starlight

Where nobody else

Can see

Under Nótt’s cloak

And right away, instantly, He responded-His words and the feeling of what She said speaking through me, through my pen onto paper-

A quote from Andor, one of resistance and resilience-

A short, simple quote that somehow washed over everything I’d just jotted down-

“And remember this-try.”

Try.

Not expected to succeed. Just try to get up. To do a few little things. Not everything. And not judging myself if I can’t. Not pushing myself too hard.

Just trying.

I ran outside in the rain. I was guided to three huge dandelions and collected them, putting them into a little green bottle I’d recently purchased but done nothing with yet.

I’m going to try to practice my Arabic. Try to pull a tarot card from Loki, to put away my laundry, to dance outside with Him at night tonight which I haven’t done in ages.

No expectation, just…try.

I can always try even if I can’t always succeed.

And since then, I’ve felt light, I’ve felt free, I’ve felt happy and hopeful…

When Loki communicates directly to or through me it’s more feelings that try to form themselves into words I’d understand.

And the feelings stayed with me.

It won’t last, quite possibly. I could easily fall back into the state I was in this morning, the state I’ve been in for weeks, but right now I feel light.

Right now I’m going to try.

And this whole thing may sound weird or pointless, but it helped me and I wanted to share anyway.
