When I was a kid, I saw a David Bowie Milk ad; it was him sorta standing-sitting at the bar of a diner, with these tight jeans and a guitar slung over his back. (At least, this is how I remember it; perhaps parts of this are a constructed memory?) I remember trying to ask my mom who the original musician for “Space Oddity” was, because I couldn’t believe that the guy I was looking at was the singer from 1969 — he just looked too young!

Holy actual crap yes that is the exact picture! In my mind, I had David Bowie standing at the bar, and the glaring patrons sitting behind him on the left side of the picture.

that design came from costume designer ann foley, who counts the tactical uniforms of deathlok and mockingbird among her favorites on the show – as well as a sparkly dress worn by actress ming-na wen during a fight scene. when asked what bennet’s costume conveys, foley had definite ideas. “it’s about strength. she feels very empowered in it…. that’s what was important to me, that she felt empowered to me,” said foley. “i wanted to stay true to some of the designs i saw in the comics. in the style lines, i wanted to pay a little bit of a tribute to her tactical ability from last season, but we also incorporated the quake symbol into her gauntlets and on the back of her suit.”

Okay, I’m hijacking this thread to talk about the recent update.

Pre-update, comments on reblogs were nested. Visually, the comments built upon all the previous comments, which created a visual indication of dialogue. Consider this:

Each comment takes the previous comment into consideration and builds on it, symbolically creating a weighted thread of conversation. Now scroll up and look at the comments as they appear on your dashboard.

Looks pretty different, right? With the update, each comment appears as a stand-alone comment. There’s no indication that one comment is taking and adding to and transforming the dialogue from the previous comments. Instead, the flow of the dialogue is stilted and singular.

It’s an inherently different way of visually presenting dialogue, and it reads (to me at least) as less of a conversation.

So I had nothing better to do than design custom formal wear for everyone in the Inquisition. It took me a while, especially because I wanted to keep some semblance of the lines they usually have on their regular outfits/armors, and incorporate those into an elegant design.

I also wanted to have some similarities for each class: mages have tuxedo tails on their coats and the raised shoulder covers; rogues have a lot of V shapes and the most color white on their outfits; warriors have lots of black and gold and they all have the golden epolettes - Blackwall’s are actually stylized into Griffon wings; and the advisors wear a lot of white to set them apart and they all have a large Inquisition crest/logo on the back of their capes.
