Blacks are not stupider then we are, they are not as ugly as we are, and they aren’t less in any way. In fact I’m more inclined to be cautious around my own skin color (white) then Blacks. I have never met a black who has treated me rudely, in fact they treat me more politely then some have, and have always taken my opinions in account instead of dismissing me because I am a woman, or because I am younger then others.

I won’t say they are better. But they sure do deserve better then what everyone has given and done to them.

Hey guys. So,,, it’s happening.

My parents are kicking me out.

I have until the end of December to find a new place to live. If not, I’ll be out on the streets, because they won’t let me stay, and I have nowhere else to go as of now.

I’m 19 years old. I’m a college sophomore in America, I’m thousands of dollars in debt with student loans, I have no job, no license, and no car.

When quarantine happened, I was laid off at my job. Since then, I haven’t been able to find another, despite my attempts. I have a little less than $100 to my name, thanks to my parents emptying my bank account to pay for this year’s tuition and class materials. It’s very likely that I won’t be able to continue my education due to all of this.

I thought I had more time. I’m terrified. Being homeless is the worst nightmare anyone ever has to face, and I don’t want to face it. I’m stuck, none of my applications for jobs have been accepted, I have no place to go, and I’m running out of time.

I'm the textbook definition of retarded, I've been leeching off of everyone I know for too long, and I know that my life is easily replaceable. I can't take a hint when it comes to speaking about sensitive things and when I try to help I can't do anything because my thoughts and words get all mixed up before I can even speak. First of all I doubt that you are many of these things. One because usually people underestimate and doubt themselves. Even I doubt myself and overreact on people irl when I shouldn’t. It’s lead me to a lot of arguements, and frustration and tears and I still can’t stop, but I’ve learn to live with it because I do try my best, and I can’t do anymore then my best even if it feels like I can do more or I’m not doing enough. I just tell myself that I have, because I can’t change the past, and I’ll try even harder next time.

Two, I sincerely doubt you are retarded. I may not have read many of your posts yet, but I can tell that you are smart and that you aren’t oblivious to what’s going on around you, which is what retarded (or stupid I guess) means. If you mean the medical definition though, I ask you, are you able to get dressed in the morning, go though a daily routine and being able to handle a an upset in that routine (such as there being no cereal for breakfast, so you might have crackers or eggs or something else), and are you able to talk to others, even if you avoid their conversations sometimes? If the answer is yes, then I do believe you aren’t retarded. Either way even if you are, your life has meaning. It has a purpose even if it doesn’t seem so right now. You matter, even if you weren’t retarded, and had aspergers or downs, or anxiety or depression, or anything else that people think is wrong with you. You will always matter.

Two, you’ve been leeching off of everyone? Well, even if it pointless to say so, it doesn’t really matter if you are, millions of people are leeching off of others because of COVID. They’ve lost their jobs or didn’t even have jobs in the first place, and they are forced to take money food and resources from people who really do need it, such as homeless people. You aren’t saline in feeling this way either, in fact I feel this way too as I am staying with my mom at my aunts house instead of getting up and making a living for myself. It sucks, but we can’t do much right now. But when this all calms down, you can try again. After all of this is over, things will be different, and I guarantee you with all this shit that’s going on (such as Black Lives Matter, Covid and I’m not sure if you are in the USA but the police brutality is going on over here too) things will be different and you will have a new chance at life. Everyone will.

Third, your life is not easily replaceable!!!! You have probably been told this a million times before, but think about it. Is there another kid like you named your real name in your birth year born in your birthplace that is exactly like you? No? I didn’t think so. All your experiences and place you’ve been and gone and people you have met, and have left have shaped you into who you are. And honestly, I’ve only known about your existence for about 5 hours now, but I don’t want you to go. Maybe it’s a bit selfish of me or naive to say that, or maybe you won’t care. But I do. I do care. You are an irreplaceable person on this earth and you shouldn’t die. You don’t deserve to die, no matter what you think.

Four, honestly sometimes thinking before you speak isn’t a bad thing at all. My mom actually is a great example of this. She’s very bull headed and stubborn but she always says exactly on her mind, and people do appreciate this a lot. It’s better to know the truth about something rather then be told a pretty lie, right? Of course not everyone agrees with that. She’s made a lot of enemies and fights for speaking like she does because she doesn’t hold back, at all. But that’s another reason to admire her because despite the fact that she might get into a fight (or in worst cases the police being called on her), she still speaks her mind. I feel, based on how you worded that sentence that the same is true for you. You speak your mind no matter what, even if you can’t get the words out right, which is fine, because despite everyone telling you not to, you still try your best even if not everyone agrees with you.

Also, you aren’t a lazy piece of shit. Why would there be all this effort into saying how ‘pathetic’ (and before you say anything you aren’t pathetic either) you are, or worthless (you aren’t this either) or any other word to describe it. If you were so lazy, you wouldn’t care at all I’d think. You wouldn’t put so much effort into thinking on how bad you are. You’d just find more ways to waste time with something even more useless. (Like figuring out how many soda can tabs it takes to be as tall/long as a ruler.)

Try not to feel bad about yourself like this. Try spinning it for the better. Cause at least one person really cares about you.

How will the skele boys react if they find an abandoned child in an ally way. I'm curious on what would happen. (Also, love your at. Its amazing)

Sans- Crouches down to be more their level since they’re probably a bit shorter than him. He’ll ask where their parents are, and when he figures out that this child has obviously been left here, he’ll tell them he’s gonna take them to the police, and they’ll help find their parents. 

Papyrus- Pats their head gently, and asks where their mommy, and daddy are. When he realizes the child has be left here on purpose he’ll crouch down to be closer to their height. He’ll pat their head again, and tell them softly, that he’ll take them to someone who will help them find their parents. Once he’s done that he’ll ask to be kept updated on their status to make sure they’re okay. 

Blue- Is a police officer, so he probably found them on patrol. He’s a bit concerned that he can’t seem to locate their parents until he learns that they’ve been probably been abandoned here. He takes them to the station where he calls CPS. 

Stretch- He’s a bit at a loss on what to do since it’s obvious this kid has been dumped here, but he feels really awkward around kids. Eventually he calls his brother, who comes and deals with the situation, but he’ll be asking Blue later what happened to the kid.  

Edge- Despite what some people might think, Edge likes kids. He thinks they’re just innocent curiosity that hasn’t been corrupted by the world just yet. He'll get down on their level, a little worried he might scare them with his face, but do his best anyway not to, and lower his volume. He'll tell them they're alright, pat their head remembering when Red would do that for him, and that he'll help find their parents.

Red- In the beginning he tries to pretend he didn't see them, but about 5 steps into walking away, he curses, and turns around. Red stomps down the alley to ask the kid where their parents are. Figuring out quickly that they've been abandoned, he takes their hand to take them to the police saying to follow him, and that they're gonna find a police officer who'll find their parents.

Berry- He's immediately concerned, and crouches down to ask if they're alright. He's quick to realize they've been abandoned, and he's furious. Who abandons their child? He goes through the steps of contacting authorities, but unlike the others he keeps updated on the kid, and when he finds out that they've been sent to foster care he immediately tries to foster them. He figures, maybe a friendly face the child knows even a little will make things easier. Plus, Berry has always wanted a family, and to be a father, and this child needs a family which he's willing to provide.

Money- He’ll do his best to make them laugh. This is a scary situation for them, and he’s trying to make them feel less afraid as he takes them to the police. He’ll definitely stop along the way to get them some ice cream, hoping that it’ll help them feel just a little less afraid, and calm. 

Black- Immediately softens, and lowers his tone to something more gentle as he bends down placing his hands on his knees. He’ll ask them first if they’re alright, before easily realizing they’ve been abandoned. Patting their head, he’ll tell them it’s okay with a smile, hoping his teeth does scare them before helping to take them to the authorities. 

Rus- Is completely lost on what to do. It also doesn’t help that he’s completely stone-faced, and looks like he’s half comatose most of the time. He definitely wants to help this kid though. No one deserves to be abandoned, and he’ll do his best even if he comes off stuttery, and an idiot as he does. 

Bear- Without a doubt, probably scares the kid even more accidentally. His face just does that. He’ll apologize softly, and despite how creaky his legs are, crouch down through the ache to be a little smaller. He’ll tell them they’re alright, that he’s not gonna hurt them. He’s just gonna help them find their parents. 

Sparrow- Is good with kids, he is a second grade teacher after all. He’ll help make the kid feel calmer, and get them smiling again as he tries to figure out where their parents are. As well as if they’re alright. 

Wine- Tells them it’s alright, and that he’ll make sure they’re taken care of. No one’s going to hurt them. He awkwardly ruffles their hair, and does his best to make them feel more comfortable, but he’s better at dealing adults than he is children. This will bring out his mothering side though, and he’ll want to make sure they child finds a proper home. 

Coffee- Has no idea what to do, so he gets Wine, but for some reason the child has attached himself to Coffee as people normally do. He’s got a soft, sweet aura to him that allows people to feel less anxious. This child isn’t going to want to let go for a while.

Can we talk about authors who put trigger warnings for a chap in the /end of chapter/ notes?? This is something I feel hella strong about. If a chapter has triggers, those should be at the very beginning of the chap, not the end where you wouldn't see them till you've already reacted. Thoughts?

I think using end notes is actually a good way of going about it. Readers who don’t want potential spoilers don’t get spoiled, and readers who need to look for warnings can click the link at the top of the chapter to drop them all the way down to the end notes before they read. 

This is from a fic where I wrote a different meet cute for my OTP in each chapter, based on a genre suggested by my readers. That part in parentheses where it says “See the end of the chapter for more notes” - that’s automatically generated by AO3 when someone adds an end note to a chapter. If there are end notes to an entire multi-chapter fic, you’ll see a link like that at the top of chapter one. If there are more end notes per chapter, you’ll see a link in those chapters as well.

If you haven’t noticed this before, I suggest looking for it. It will save you a lot of time and potential heart ache.

I’m a strong supporter for end notes. To get the best use of them, though, you need to indicate in your beginning notes what kind of content is going to be there.

I wouldn’t jump to the end notes in ao3commentoftheday’s example, because the only context is that it might relate to their friend’s request? 

In this case, that’s fine, because it’s not an important note. But if you’re putting warnings there, they only help if you mention them.

“Warnings about consent in the end notes.“ - Really helpful

“If you have any sexual triggers, I got a list of everything that happens at the end of the fic.“ - Wow, thank you for that effort!

“ For some info about the ending, click here“ - I am clicking that thing as fast as I can!

“For additional warnings, see end notes“ - I’ll only check if something in the tags is worrying me. May still be useful for those with bad triggers, and is way better than nothing. So, thank you.

“I tagged for character death just to be sure, but it isn’t, really. Check end note for more details.“ (Or, “I didn’t tag it, but maybe you should check the end notes”) - Really good if you’re not sure how to tag. Helps so much. Our mileage may vary, thanks for making sure.

“This shouldn’t need warnings, but if you really want them, they’re in the end notes“ - kind of judgmental, I might not read the fic because I’m not sure if someone this reluctant will be safe, but I do appreciate the try!

“I don’t use trigger warnings.“ - Still better than NOT saying that? I’m not reading, and glad to know I shouldn’t?

“I don’t want to use tags, because they spoil the effect I’m going for! I’ve got general warnings in the end notes, and if you scroll more, there are more specific warnings“ - You’ve protected everyone! No spoilers unless they’re necessary! I’ll check the end notes, and only scroll down if they apply. How perfect!

I respect that authors have good reasons not to use tags. They may not want spoilers, or to be too graphic, or to tag something that only sort of applies. Maybe the tag they used wasn’t informative enough. Maybe the thing barely comes up in the story, and they don’t want to clog up that tag or let down fans of that tag.

Apologies if this isn't the right place, but since you seem familiar with AO3 I figured I'd ask. I've been reading fic for years, but I'm not familiar with triggers and what should be tagged as such. I was wondering if you knew of a solid list of things that are good to warn for on fics? I figure rape and abuse would make the list, but are there other things (ex. phobias) that are decently common enough to be of note? (ofc if anyone wants something tagged, I'd be happy to oblige! safe reading!)

I’ll open this up to the blog because I’m a fluff/comedy/smut writer myself so I don’t have a lot of knowledge of what is and isn’t tagged. 

A safe bet would be to tag anything relating to violence or abuse like you said, and probably things like drugs and alcohol.

Okay Bernie stans.

I need you all to prepare yourselves to vote for Biden in November.  

I’m not happy about it either.  I wanted Elizabeth Warren to destroy Trump on the debate floor.  I wanted to watch her shatter the glass ceiling.  I wanted student loan forgiveness, Medicare for All, and refugee and immigrant protections.

But I’m not going to get that.  So I am going all in for Biden.

This can no longer be a matter of “well if I don’t get my way THEN I’M NOT VOTING”.  I’d hoped you all learned your lessons four years ago, but from what I’ve seen on social media, that’s not been the case.  Biden is not ideal but he is better than the alternative.  He is a Democrat who will continue Obama’s legacy.  And you have a shot in hell of getting progressive movements like Medicare for All under a blue majority Congress; we do not have that under Trump.  

Biden is more willing to listen to the progressive factions of the Democrat party than Trump is.  We will get shit done under him.    

We cannot survive a second term of Trump.  I need you all to hold your noses, put on your big girl pants, and deal with it.  Prepare to vote for Biden.

Also, I’ve reviewed most of his plans and they are good.  No, they are not as good as Warren’s plans.  But he commits to LGBTQ+ protections, repealing the transgender in the military ban, and his refugee/immigration protections are way better than I expected (he actually has some culpability to the deportations under the Obama administration).

He is a good choice, guys.  Maybe not the best.  But he will get us to where we need to be and is a fucking return to SANITY in the government, which we badly fucking need.

Two, TWO Supreme Court justices are on the table for the next president, plus all the other federal judges McConnell has been stacking benches with the past three years. That’s Roe v. Wade, and a whole lot else, for the foreseeable future. 

The reality is that we live in a two party system and while I do not want Biden, I am capable of recognizing nuance and shades of gray. If it comes down to Biden, as it very likely may he will not do as much damage as four more years of Trump, and that is an ethical imperative. 

This is also why we all MUST vote down-ticket as well.

Not voting isn’t a protest. It’s a surrender. If we want change, real change, then we have to drag our country to the left. One. Election. At. A time. It’s not an all-or-nothing scenario. So if it comes down to it, vote for Biden. Get on the bus headed away from fascism and the alt-right. If that bus isn’t heading directly to where we want to go, then we ride it until we have a chance to get on a different bus. Not voting is NOT an option.
