       serena  ,   fourteen  ,   with  grief  already  starting  to  make  a  home  in  her  lovely  features  .   her  hair  is  pulled  into  a  low  ponytail  across  her  shoulder  ,   with  silk  -  sunshine  blonde  curls  framing  each  side  of  her  tired  face  .   she  can  see  right  through  harry  ,   as  if  he  were  the  ghost  ,   not  her  .   fear  ,   anxiety  ,   emotions  that  had  already  strangled  her  and  left  her  fatigued  ;   her  own  expression  is  nigh  unreadable   ━━   blank  ,   vague  .   it's  all  still  there  in  her  mind  ,   the  sidewalk  rocks  cutting  into  her  knees  ,   the  red  .   so  much  red  .   it  replayed  in  her  mind  so  much  she  felt  numb  to  the  vision  .   his  room  is  a  mess  ,   her  soft  brown  eyes  rimmed  with  long  lashes  and  bags  that  showed  no  sign  of  sleeping  ,   despite  the  exhaustion  she  shows  .   harry  is  all  long  limbs  and  butterflies  ,   causing  a  wreck  in  his  room  .   his  simple  statement  is  enough  ,   and  serena  nods  ,   because  she  understood  the  entire  time  .

       she  steps  over  clothes  to  make  it  to  his  bed  ,   sitting  like  a  sculpture  on  the  edge  .    ❛     august  picked  mine  out  ,     ❜    serena  says  .   she  couldn't  bother  to  do  something  so  mundane  in  the  wake  of  such  tragedy  ,   so  her  brother  did  it  for  her  .   picking  clothes  was  too  difficult  .   even  the  sweater  she  wore  was  adorned  by  august  before  dropping  her  off  at  harry's  house  .   she  looks  around  at  the  options  .   they'll  be  photographed  a  lot  outside  .     ❛     whatever  you  feel  nicest  in  .   a  lot  of  people  will  be  there  .     ❜

he's as still as a statue while she gracefully avoids the mess of clothing currently decorating his carpet, motionless and watching. only his neck moving as she sits on the edge of the mattress with a small dip —— comforting words had never necessarily been taught to him, and he feels terribly awkward when he tried to deliver them via tongue. ( it's not as though they were often offered to him, ) manning up and expanding some wealth was the osborn way. but despite his silence... the empathy swam so deep in his gaze, it could have drowned the lingering affection that always somehow prevailed when he looked at her. she looked tired. ELEGANT AND SOFT AND BEATEN DOWN. how dare he act so selfish during a time like this? she's enduring a terrible loss, and he's somehow making it about himself. ❛❛ i bet it's really pretty.. ❜❜ is murmured as he slowly bends to pick up the third to last jacket he'd carelessly tossed onto the floor. it had fit the best thus far... and therefore was currently the unfortunate top contender— he imagines it's hard to feel your nicest with a dead body in the room.

the idea that it would be a large service hadn't been entirely lost on him, everything to do with their lives was large —— but it really began to sink in when she verbalized it. big, a known affair. something that wasn't going to be able to be kept entirely private... WHAT'S NEW? his nose scrunched just slightly in disdain at the thought as he gently placed the garment on the bed. much more gentle than he'd previously treated it. ❛❛ my dad isn't coming. ❜❜ work is too hectic, norman said. but harry suspects the man just can't handle another funeral. his fingers idly fiddle with the cuff of the crisp white button down. IT FIT WELL, PERFECT EVEN. BUT RIGHT NOW FELT TOO TIGHT. and he sat beside her as he began to undo the left one. ❛❛ but i can get dropped off at your place. ride with you... if you want. ❜❜

and he hadn't expected her to be talking so much when he hauled his ass into the car... tonight was a lose for both of them, wasn't it? ( or morning, he supposes. ) but he hadn't properly slept in days, and he can't imagine it'll be any different once he returns home. MILDLY HUNGOVER WITH KNUCKLES ACHING, he can hardly remember why. something of a low groan escapes from the bottom of his throat as she speaks —— and his elbow was digging into the passenger door. palm cradling a head that currently had a heartbeat of its own.

❛❛ yeah, well— ❜❜ he cuts himself off like he's still thinking of a response, and he hadn't bothered glancing over at her much for the duration of the ride. it's slight embarrassment —— but mostly he just was hoping she wouldn't ask too many questions... BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE TOO MANY ANSWERS. there's a small scrunch of his nose before his eyes finally fluttered open to glance out onto the dark road ahead. ❛❛ guess that just makes you special. ❜❜

SHE MUST FEEL DIVINE. and she should —— to give him such an order, no matter how sweetly it's wrapped up and delivered all around a familiar tongue. no one tells an osborn what to do... not without their livelihood being on the line. ( it must feel glorious, ) the same as he upon relinquishing his own thirst for control behind the safe haven of a locked door; it's like a brief surrender. even if only for a short moment— he'll put himself and everything he has to offer into her hands without qualms. a reprieve from their back and forth that he admittedly enjoys; but there's no snarky retort nor hesitation when she says it. only slightly parted lips and a glimmer of something devilish in his gaze that has hardly blinked. let alone torn away from her.

and he'll obey like a dog well trained; a once looming figure slowly descending toward her feet. ( but blues were transfixed, ) as if in a state of reverence, and how fitting that was for when knees finally settled upon the wood in a position to pray. she looks beautiful from every angle. ❛❛ this how you like me? ❜❜ there's just enough smugness in the question as his hands push themselves under the skirt of her dress. TO FIND THE LEGS WOEFULLY HIDDEN FROM HIS SIGHT. and it doesn't take long for them to explore —— following the length upward towards thighs with light pressure from pressing fingertips. the urge was there. nagging at him from the back of his mind to lift the fabric entirely and place his head between them.

but he'll only knead gently into flesh as he stares up at her— with a tilt of his head, with a crooked smile on the corners of his lips. like he's awaiting further instructions. LIKE HE WANTS TO HEAR HER SAY IT. she'd gotten him here using only her words... surely she can do it again. ❛❛ and do what? ❜❜

where's my "ur muse met some rich dude named harry at the club last night, didn't bother exchanging last names because why would they, and had to sneak out of his fancy mansion in the morning for a super important job interview and now they're awkwardly sitting across from each other at oscorp" plot.

one cup had already been broken in the manor before noon that day. one more piece of crystal glassware that had slipped from his grip from loss of control, and joined the growing graveyard of previous shattered shards that have been swept up over the last few months. ( some smeared in his blood from stubborn attempts to clean it up himself, ) BUT NOT TODAY. he'd kept his cool through most of it... isn't that worth noting? isn't that worth celebrating? even with another broken glass, even with not being able to hold out long before throwing his head back with a pill that afternoon —— he'd kept his cool.

but now it's the evening as they sat in the dining room. he's dropped a pen twice at his office and he's fumbled with a knife during lunch; AND HE'S FINALLY STARTING TO LOSE IT. because it's embarrassing to struggle with something as simple as pouring from a bottle of wine —— even in front of his wife. the woman who has witnessed the gradual onslaught firsthand. shameful. and he mutters a rough thank you when she takes over the task for him. ( appreciative, agitated. they live in the same vein. ) and suddenly the weighted gloves were being peeled from his wrists. thrown across the length of the table and uncaring of where they landed— THEY'RE A HOPELESS EFFORT. they've been a hopeless effort. but he's continued giving them a chance in the name of desperation.

the sound that leaves him is more of a hmph than a hum. more offended than appreciative of her honesty... but it's not only her blunt truth that bothered him at this moment— IT'S THAT SHE WAITED UNTIL NOW TO TELL HIM. there's just barely enough time to change or else they'll be late, and a driver was patiently waiting outside. but he stands tall before her. his hands going to grasp the lapels of his jacket, head falling to examine himself to the best of his ability without the assistance of a mirror. loose blonde curls bounced against his forehead as gaze traveled from his chest to shoes beneath lashes. the color of the suit was in fact different than his usual, he'll give her that —— a lighter blue than he was accustomed to. he'd thought it might compliment his eyes. DISTRACT FROM... SOMETHING.

❛❛ you could have said that an hour ago.. ❜❜ it's mumbled between the teeth latching onto the inside of his cheek. embarrassed, perhaps. but he's quick to try and rid of it —— just as quick as he begins to shrug his shoulders out of the jacket. HEAD SNAPPING BACK UP TO FIND HER; with a look bordering something more playful to mask that sudden wash of self consciousness. ❛❛ what color looks best on me then? ❜❜
