COMMON QUESTIONS I GET AS A VEGETARIAN & MY ANSWERS
Q: When did you become vegetarian/how long have you been vegetarian?
A: I started at a very young age, when I was 6. So 10 years now.
Q: Is anyone else in your family vegetarian?
A: Nope. No one in my direct, extended, or even step family.
A: In a vegetarian way, not really. I believe the meat industry is very cruel, and I personally do not wish to support it, but I donât preach it to others unless they want to hear what I have to say. However if you just mean in general I am a strong LGBT rights activist.
Q: Do you ever miss meat?
Q: Would you ever go off your vegetarian diet?
A: If it was for a medical reason and I had to, yes. Otherwise no.
Q: Why arenât you a vegan?
A: I simply donât have a problem eating animal products, because it doesnât kill an animal. However, I also have a medical reason for not being a vegan. My body doesnât absorb a lot of minerals very well and I am anemic. So even on both iron and B-12 supplements, I have to absorb them through food as well sometimes. Iron is easy, because thatâs in veggies. B-12 is harder, because itâs mainly in meat but also exists in eggs and dairy, which I consume on the regular. I have tried going vegan once and it proved to be very bad for my health.
Q: Have you ever tried meat? Maybe youâll like it.
A: I havenât tried all meat, but Iâve tried enough to know that I do not like the taste. Even if I had no moral obligation, I still hate the taste of meat.
Q: Why are you a vegetarian?
A: Morally I am against eating animals. I donât like the idea of eating something that was once alive. I also hate how meat tastes. It also legitimately makes me sick. Even if I donât know itâs in my food and I eat it anyways. So I have a number of reasons.
Q: How do you feel about vegans?
A: Theyâre chill. If you mean preachy vegans, I get very annoyed with them very quickly. I have nothing against you, as long as you donât try to force others to conform to your views and use guilt tactics.
Q: Is it okay if I eat meat around you?
A: Yeah. Iâm not offended by people eating meat around me, I genuinely do not care.
Q: Ever been to a vegan restaurant?
A: No, actually. Though I do plan to.
Q: Since youâre anemic doesnât that mean you should eat meat again?
A: My anemia is a genetic condition, and will not go away if I eat meat. My condition actually improved after I went vegetarian because I started eating a lot more vegetables than before. Vegetarianism does not cause anemia. Anemia can occur in anyone.
Q: WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR PROTEIN??
A:Â I am genuinely concerned have you ever eaten a god damn vegetable. In all seriousness; edamame, tofu (on occasion), dairy, eggs, leafy greens, stuff like that. If you count the extra protein I eat after I lift, protein bars are a nice little snack (I was thinking about eating and reviewing different vegan protein bars but we will see)
Q: Hasnât being a vegetarian slowed down your weightlifting progress?
A: The only thing that has EVER slowed my progress would be my spine surgery. So nope.
Q: Can meat-eaters still enjoy vegetarian/vegan recipes?
A: Short answer; Yes. Long answer; If they werenât called vegetarian/vegan recipes, meat eaters would be a lot less hesitant to try them.Â
A: My family is carnivorous. It usually sucks.
