You're not creating real people, you're creating the illusion of real people. You don't have to mention their favorite food if it doesn't come up, you don't even have to know it, though if they were actual people they'd have one. You can throw plot events at your characters to force them to take certain actions, or you could just rewrite the characters to be the kind of characters who would take those actions anyway. Your characters have a life of their own in their own little world, but don't be afraid to play god to get what you want out of them.
In the vast majority of cases, a character's strengths and flaws should be the same thing. There are exceptions (you can have a character be clumsy for the lols without needing to find some way that it's an advantage), but for most character traits, the difference between a flaw and a strength is the situation at hand and learning when to indulge it.
desire is the source of action, so your characters should WANT things. all of them should have something they want that's good for them, something they want that's bad for them, and something that's just a little silly, for spice.
Treat your secondary characters like they are the main characters of another story. I don't mean you have to know everything about them, but if their role in the story could be replaced by a cardboard cutout, then the story will feel flat where it encounters them. Give them their own motivation/wants/desires, and it will help you immensely in writing their interactions with the main character, and make the world seem bigger/more real to the reader.

These were my first ever thoughts on her. The reason why she gets nervous around Grace is because it is terrified of doing the wrong thing while providing him the necessary medical attention and hurting him.
He unintentionally snuck up on her once, due to her impaierd hearing caused by the large break in its carapace. Only when Grace spoke up did Rabbit actually notice him, and last time he checked he was alone, so naturally the human's sudden presence was quite terrifying. She jumped nearly the height of herself and then proceeded to skitter away.
I think it would definitely get better about Grace as time goes by, though.

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it
but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.
i can Not be normal about grace and rocky, not when grace in the book is literally like āi would trust this guy (who is an engineer (not a biologist)) to do surgery on meā and in the movie, rocky has a colour spot on his arm that supposedly represents his mate, adrien, but grace also has a mark on his arm, that rocky GAVE HIM, and its his handprint. like. what do you expect me to do with that seriously. okay fine what about the literal red string of fate (petrova line) connecting them and leading them to meet each other? what about rocky saying that earth and erid have to be at a similar technologically advanced state, or else they wouldnt have met? what about āboth of us are intensely interested in how the otherās body worksā? like cmoooonnnnn manā¦ feel free to add more im sure ive missed some things
There are so many wonderful artists in this world making such amazing creative things and I am filled with love for everyone who ever created anything with their own hands and put their heart and mind and soul into the things they felt passion for. Everyone who wrote or is writing or dreaming of writing their story someday. I think it's beautiful. Creativity is so beautiful, being inspired by something someone else created and getting to pass on the torch of creativity when something that You've Made happens to Inspire someone else to create something of their own, something with their own spin on it. All art is worth celebrating, the smallest first sketch and the latest 15 hour drawing, and the oc ref of the character just standing there and the freaky dark art and the niche weird kink art, the weird fanfics and the bookstore books, the music on every radio station and someone's private off-beat 2 chord ukulele song, the animation that took millions of budget to create and someone's flipaclip short of their oc doing the caramelldansen, all art is beautiful. I'm so glad to be here at the time it's so easy to experience and love all of it
