Non-fiction books and papers about Baldwin IV
I already posted about this before, but recently I saw that people were looking for books/papers about Baldwin so here is the list again:
Baldwin’s contemporaries:
The Chronicles of Ernoul - Ernoul

A Leper in Purple: The Coronation of Baldwin IV of Jerusalem - Stephen Lay
Baldwin IV of Jerusalem and the Challenges and Qualities of Leadership - Declan Krebs

Little sick baby boy Baldwin looks at the heavenly Jerusalem 😔🙏🏻
I put a necklace on apollo and its marked him. Think ill have do a touch up 🥺😫😫
Also im thinking of adding colour to the bit that drapes on his clothes. Gold ✨️
Just spent the week reading descriptions and researching the REAL King Baldwin…. This is the result.
I really hate colouring so I’ve got the sketches and the important bits to show 😌
Baldwin saw the picture
Ever since ive seen this picture, I've always thought Baudouin was side eyeing someone. Now I'm reading the land beyond the sea. I think its Miles Of Plancy
Why is Baudouin IV such a gremlin in the land beyond the sea.
Baudouin: Maria hasn't got a sense of humour
William: you set a bat free in her chambers
Like what 😂😂
Watched a deep dive on kingdom of heaven and took notes
Napoleon and Baldwin discuss noses
Baldwin is still stuck watching films with Napoléon. He is overwhelmed because he learned Napoléon is the second most written about person in history after Jesus Christ, meaning he will likely have the Emeperor yapping in his ear a little longer...
These are so silly but I watch all of them every time I see them 😂😂
In my crusade era 💕
I think we can all agree…. XD
Ridley Scott…. We are waiting….

The Leper King and his heirs
I also recommend taking a look at his genealogy/family tree!
You can find it and other pertinent trees in the Leper King and his heirs as well.
I saw in comments and messages, both here and on TikTok, that there’s been some new people joining the community, and asking me for pointers on a variety of related subjects, so as a historical divulger since my early teens, I wanted to offer a few of my fav starting places for reading real documents of the time. And others to gain a little perspective of the real side of things.
Add your own sources and resources! I would add more myself, but I don’t have time to look through my 400+ open tabs and remember it all lmaooo but I will update this into a masterlist along the way if u wish :3 (and if you know of better quality alternatives to the ones I’ve linked lmk)
Edit: give me some time and I will sporadically update with my resources. They’re just super scattered and some I just forget about because they’re from ages ago. So I might have to dig.
Seguramente traduciré al español algunos de estos documentos, si están interesados 🤍

Medieval horses: Destriers. This article is not entirely correct, but it makes a half-valid point. I have my own interpretations and theories about destrier types (it is not a horse breed, but a type, therefore, there are many variations). I also have a couple of pics of stocky PRE horses near me that seem like a perfect example of one of those variations.
The saracens typically used mares. The use of geldings for any army was also the norm, however, many (crusaders) also rode stallions, which in battle would get distracted by the mares 🤦🏽♀️😂

Facts to take into consideration:
Castles: Typically, get used to forgetting that bare stone look. This could be true for new/hastily constructed castles and fortifications. But established infrastructure would be lime-washed/plastered. Many times painted. Many times colorful. On the inside, too—n they would be decorated, and full of tapestries. The more important a lordship (and where more often the King would pass through (royal castles)) and the more wealthy an area, the more true this would be. Churches would be colorful too. Painted with many motifs and icons. Mosaics can be included in your descriptions in many places too. Some classic Roman or Greek, some Byzantine, some local.

I made a playlist about Baudouin IV and his world. I tried to do it.
Childhood
Illness and becoming king
Battle and the world outside him
Slowing down
The end.
“Sceau de Baudouin IV, roi de Jérusalem.”
Lead bulla (seal) of King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem. The other side depicts the Dome of the Rock, Tower of David, and Church of the Holy Sepulcher (notice the truncated conical dome (or conical dome with a flat top) dome of that era)
When I first saw this I zoomed into the face and found the corrosion quite interesting lol
I started making an artwork of him based on this but as always, I temporarily abandoned it while I have to finish other works.
