the dragon is the breaker of fate because in rpgs, dragons are never supposed to win against the heroes
back on my bs again YEAHHHHHHHHH
on the back of my 74-hints-at-susie-being-the-dragon-aka-the-final-boss post, i was thinking about the role that dragons play and why a dragon in particular would be the prophecy breaker, the narrative blind spot, the one who will face the predestined plot of the game...
and that's because in rpgs, if a dragon wins, it breaks the game by sending the player into a game over. dragons aren't supposed to win. they're supposed to be slain so the game's story can continue.
you can't progress the game if the dragon wins because the heroes need to win! that's what's ordained in an rpg plot!
in other words, dragons are capable of breaking fate because the dragon's victory stops the game's story. it breaks the plot! their victories are not supposed to happen, are not a part of the game, and the plot of the game in deltarune is the prophecy itself.
so to break the prophecy, the dragon must win where she is meant to fall. the dragon has to win against her scripted loss to progress the story and make her own path as 'the world's enemy'
and she'll do it one way or another and it'll come down to the player's LOVE in how this gets solved...
either it's a fusion in NR or this tragedy in WR
maybe.
...but who are YOU, really?
