Brown Kids of Alderaan is looking for submissions!

What We Are:

A zine contained of writing and visual art that is geared towards the experiences and intersections of nerds of color. We understand that different people have different definitions for the “brown” racial identity. When we use the term we have the intention of including everyone who identifies as a person of color. Brown Kids of Alderaan is an anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, anti-ableist, anti-capitalist space. Anything else will not be tolerated.

What We’re Looking For:

Any form of visual art or writing that is produced exclusively by a person of color. This contains but is not limited to: photography, drawings, comics, poetry, short stories, essays, etc. All written work must be under 1000 words and all images should be .jpg or .tiff try to send as large of an image file as you can. All work must be related to nerdom and its intersection with race. Feel free to interpret that as you wish.

We are hoping to have both digital and physical copies of the Zine.

JOIN THE RUMPUS INTERVIEWS TEAM!

The Rumpus is looking for two Assistant Interviews Editors to join our team. Gain hands-on knowledge of the editing and publishing processes by working closely with a senior Rumpus editor.

Responsibilities will be divided between the two assistant editors, both of whom will report to the Deputy Interviews Editor and the Interviews Editor.

Read Submittable submissions and determine appropriateness for site

Read unsolicited submissions and determine appropriateness for site (chosen at Interviews Editor’s discretion)

Copyedit final drafts of interviews, and set them up in WordPress

Research and find interesting interview subjects for Interviews Editor to consider for site

Conduct interviews for the site, as desired

Assist Interviews Editor with tasks as needed

We’re seeking diverse applicants with some prior experience, especially working with WordPress and Submittable, a familiarity with our content and tone, who can commit approximately 5-10 hours a week, and are able to meet deadlines and stay on schedule. This is a volunteer position.

The “dark truth” behind mansplaining: it’s total bullshit. Most of the time these kind of things aren’t what “mansplaining” is. More than half the time “mansplaining” is just a male person saying something to the contrary. That’s it; that’s mansplaining. When it’s not a means to shit on men for the actions of a few (much to the dismay of the last comment in the gifset), it’s an out on having to answer for some kind of wrongdoing. Especially when it comes to pseudo-scientific buzz topics.

But, you know, as a male myself I expect that some woman or feminist will drop by and either preach at me the ways that they think this action is justified or try to dismiss my point with some kind of “sassy” remark.

So, please, femsplain it to me. ;B
