I am wanting to start logging my training again so this blog will definitely become more active.

While Tumblr (and in particular dogblr) can be toxic too, I have never experienced anything like the Facebook dog/service dog community. It is a whole different beast.

That means I need new dogblrs to follow! Like/Reblog this if you’re an active dogblr. Bonus points if your dogs do sports or you also log your training (that inspiration from other owners is always welcomed)!

This is only one of the handful of times that Ayla has worked next to a motorized cart! Because she has a general understanding of directional cues, it makes handling her + driving the cart a lot easier and a lot less stressful. I am also extremely thankful that Target enforces their no-pet policy. It helps to keep Ayla and I safe from untrained and potentially aggressive dogs! I was finally able to make my fundraising link. I’ll make a more proper announcement for social media later. But here it is.

So I have officially washed Arlie. She’s become too reactive for me to ethically (and confidently) continue to train her for service work. She just doesn’t have the overall right temperament and it’s better for all of us that she just becomes a pet.

Now this means that I have to start back at square one. I won’t be owner training this time and instead I’ll be going through a local Texas organization. Their placement cost is $9,000 and I just don’t have that sort of money. Soon I will have a fundraising link up and more information about my reasons for washing her and why I chose this specific program.

This is an update on my current situation....

Arlie is being washed and I will be getting a program dog instead.

I will still have this blog and it won't be too active until I am placed with the program dog. The name and tags will all change to help reflect the future dog better.

My Instagram for Arlie will also be kept but it will be inactive until placement.

To everyone who is feeling discouraged in their training: 

you are doing a good job

your dog will still love you even if you have an off training day

sometimes your dog will not perform the commands you know they know, that’s okay, tomorrow’s a new day

if you screw up, you can fix it, dogs are adaptable

your dog is smart, they will learn what they need even if it takes months

training takes a long time, that’s okay

your hard work will pay off

it’s okay to take a day, a few days, or even a week off

your dog won’t give up on you, as long as you don’t give up on them

the internet is a wonderful thing, use it to help you (especially youtube)

if all else fails, ask your local reputable professional trainer
