Wrath is beating someone up because they exist in a way that you don’t like. Wrath is not being angry because someone hurt you.

Lust is not wanting to have sex with other people. Lust is using sex to hurt other people or hurting another person in a sexual way.

Gluttony is not eating lots of food (your own stomach will tell you when enough is enough). Gluttony is when you have enough resources to yourself that you could house and feed the rest of the population of your city but you keep it to yourself because you do not want to give up the power associated with it.

Greed is not wanting to improve the state of your material life because it would improve your quality of life. Greed is taking opportunities and resources away from already marginalized people. (And if someone tells you that a service you benefited from and it actively improved your life was not meant for you specifically, then there needs to be more of that resource).

Envy is not looking at someone who has a higher quality of life and wanting to improve it. Envy is when you are looking to take away from someone who is in the same situation as you. The example the Bible (or catholic school) uses is a man looking at another man’s wife when his own wife loves him very much and is equal to the other woman in every way that is important.

Sloth (aka laziness) isn’t when you’re exhausted or hurting and being too tired to do anything else. Sloth is when one contributed nothing to the work and yet reaps the rewards of the work.

Pride is when you think of yourself of greater than your peers and your fellow humans. Pride is also when you think of yourself greater than God. Pride is not being proud of yourself or others for accomplishing something that was difficult. You are allowed to be proud of your hard work and your accomplishments.

My coworkers complain when we can’t assign homework over Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. As if somehow this interferes with their ability to teach their classes.

My coworkers complain that our Muslim students get to leave class to pray Salat at noon. Like, we have maybe one Muslim student every two or three years - thus far, all extraordinarily respectful and lovely kids! - and they slip quietly out of class to pray.

My coworkers find all this infuriating. “Imagine,” they cry, “If a Christian kid asked to do that.”

I calmly explain, every single time, that a Christian kid would never HAVE to do that, because every single Christian holy day is a day off school. Good Friday. Easter Sunday. Christmas day. Our entire country interrupts its financial and educational systems - schedules its WEEKS - around the Christian prayer customs and seasons.

God forbid we temporarily unclip the rope barrier and leave an opening for someone whose religious traditions vary from our own.

Having homophobic parents myself, i couldn’t keep it inside me any longer so here’s a rant about homophobic people. The homophobia definition is the fear, hatred, discomfort with, or mistrust of people who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Might i add maybe these are the worst type of people existing? And i get so fucking angry because I can’t do anything about it.

Why does it matter who people love? Love is love. It’s not a gender it’s a feeling.

Bredon urie was considered a bad influence on kids because he is a gay icon. Which is totally ridiculous. “If your parents have a problem with gay people they’re the problem and I don’t care if they’re your parents. They’re a problem.” he said. And that’s exactly why people love him. Stand 👏 up 👏 for 👏 what 👏 you👏 believe 👏 in 👏. Most people believe it’s against the bible which is soooooo NOT true. Bitch the Bible was written by MEN, who SAID they were talking to god.

How can you have a problem with someone’s existence? Being gay, bi, trans is not a choice, we were born this way. You can deny it all you want but bitch, science proved it. If the people you surround yourself with have a problem with being who you are or even if your parents have a problem with who you are, they’re toxic. Period. You can either try to make them understand, (because sometimes people are not aware of things and that’s why they try to follow things their parents taught them without even knowing if it’s right or wrong) and if they don’t, distance yourself from them. We don’t need that kind of negativity with us. People don’t understand how serious this issue is. People end up hurting themselves because they were told they were wrong for existing this way, they’re not normal and all that shit homophobic people say to them. How can you make someone feel there’s something wrong with them because of how they are?

If you believe that these people are “not normal” and they need to be put in a “normal” environment as in a conversion therapy, that’s probably where your friends, kids, family lost all the respect for you. Every person is different and we should respect them for who they are. No matter gay, straight, bi, lesbian, queer other any other way they choose to identify themselves, RESPECT 👏 THEM 👏

There’s a whole journey that led them to finally come out the closet. It takes years for some people to even come out to themselves. Coming out of the closet and telling people your darkest secret can be the scariest thing one can do. And you don’t have to right to make them feel worthless. No one does.

At the end, people are people, love is love. We love the person not the gender. If you don’t accept people for who they are, fuck yourself. Absolutely go fuck yourself, also if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. Just let us exist goddammit.

Some old housemates of mine were Syrian Orthodox. At their church different members of the church took turns baking the bread that would be consecrated for the Eucharist. This was all well and good until one woman baked raisin bread. This led to the memorable occasion of a rather flustered priest, who had not seen the bread until that moment, declaring, “This - except for the raisins - is the Body of Christ.”
