little update between gameweeks

i am not doing so hot and tasty you guys!

i have a bruised rib and a sinus infection (doesn't sound terrible but it's a really awful combination and because i rarely get sick sick when i do i overwork myself until it's the worst case scenario) so needless to say! i'm in a lot of pain and discomfort and as much as i'd love to update you guys further on my squads over here i am simply sick as a dog. i'll post little recaps of this past gameweek along with the upcoming gameweek at the end of the week provided i no longer feel as though my skull is going to pop from sheer sinus pressure.

i adore you endlessly, dear reader, and hope this finds you well (or at least better than myself) stay tuned for more this week, whenever that'll be. in the meantime, stay sunny.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 24- Recap

Another flop to polish off the series, let's unpack.

Quick recap: this week's challenge is The Aerial Threat, in which 4 bonus points were awarded for every headed goal attempt. This is the last gameweek in the Archetype series.

Pickford brought in 2 points this week, playing a full 90'.

Captained Chalobah brought in 6 points, playing a full 90', making 12 defensive contributions, but dropping points to goals conceded.

Mikel Merino hurt his foot and didn't play.

Mateta didn't play.

Erling Haaland brought in 5 points through a full 90' and an assist.

Calvert-Lewin picked up 2 more points for an 87' contribution.

I absolutely flopped this week, bringing in a mere 15 points and earning a top 100% global ranking. Yikes.

I finished the event with 99 points and a top 55% global ranking, having missed 1 week and tanked 2.

For the season, I've picked up 1,136 points, having completed 22/24 gameweeks. I've got a World Class 2 ranking with hopes to regain my Legend ranking by the end of the season (if not this next event).

Gameweek 24- Recap

Work has been crazy in the paint but I managed to get my double picked up so I don't go in until tonight. Enough about me, let's dive into it!

Point Breakdown/Bonus Points

Captained Roefs brought in 12 points, playing a full 90' and maintaining a clean sheet.

Gabriel brought in 8 points of his own, playing a full 90', maintaining a clean sheet, and making 13 defensive contributions.

Chalobah brought in 3 points, playing a full 90' and making 12 defensive contributions, he dropped a singular point to goals conceded.

Marc Guehi brought in 3 points of his own, playing a full 90, picking up 10 defensive contributions, he dropped points to goals conceded in a very frustrating second half of our meeting with Spurs.

Timber brought in 5 points, playing a full 90', maintaining a clean sheet, and dropping a singular point to a yellow card.

In the midfield, Rice brought in 3 points, having played a full 90' while keeping a clean sheet.

Antoine Semenyo brought in 7 points, playing a full 90' and scoring a goal.

Harry Wilson picked up 2 points after a 90' contribution.

Haaland brought in 5 points through 90' on the pitch and an assist.

Thiago brought in 2 points for his 90' contribution.

Nick Woltemade brought in a singular point for his 17' on the pitch.

Finished 4 points below average this week, it might be time for some big changes around here.

This gameweek I added 51 points to the pot, setting me 75 points behind this week's top scorer (thanks to a bench boost on their part). This brings my season total to 1,398 points.

League Standings

Tumblr league: 1st place with a 21 point lead.

Battle of the exes: 1st place here with a 148 lead.

College derby: 1st place here too with a 64 point gap.

Online friend: 1st place here as well! I've got a 201 point lead.

Intercontinental derby: 1st place with a 73 points lead.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 24.0- Preliminary Picks

For a quick recap: this current event spans through GW21-GW24 and is called Archetypes. The aim of this event is to focus on stats and roles.

This week's challenge is called The Aerial Threat, in which 4 points are awarded for every headed attempt on goal. This could be interesting!

I went for a 1-1-3 this week, hoping to maximize bonus points as they don't need to be scored, just attempted.

In goal I went for Picky Pickford.

In defense I've captained Chalobah

In the midfield I've gone for Mikel Merino.

Up top we've got Mateta, Haaland, and Calvert-Lewin.

I've reached World Class 1, and I'm determined to reach my status of Legend once again. Thus far I've played 21/23 of the gameweeks and brought in 1,121 points total for the season.

Gameweek 24.0- Preliminary Picks

Getting these up before work and certainly hoping that afterwards I can go to my friend's to start House of the Dragon. Any GoT fans following this blog? Regardless- far from the point, let's get into it!

Formation and Strategy:

I kept my 4-3-3, but depending on whether or not Timber plays, it might shift to a 3-4-3. We'll see.

Transfers:

I transferred Guimaraes for Harry Wilson ahead of Wilson's meeting with Man United, he seems to be in great form, so we'll see how this goes.

Hopes and Dreams:

I've captained my goalkeeper this week, not a typical move but I'm hoping Roefs can do bits in his match against Burnley this week.

I'm hoping our performance in the UCL this week will have put a little pep in City's step this week. We'll see.

Chips:

Still sitting on my refreshed chips, but I'm plotting and scheming times to hopefully use them.

Season Performance

My season total is currently at 1,347, I'm bringing in on average ~59 points per gameweek (58.6 but I'm really just splitting hairs here)

My squad's currently valued at 101m and I have 0.9m in my bank.

Leagues:

YouTuber's league: 6,956th place here

Tumblr league: 1st place here! My lead has shrunk down to 23 points, so I'm hoping by the end of the gameweek to not only maintain 1st place, but also widen the gap.

Battle of the exes: 1st place here with a 148 point cushion. While wishing him a happy birthday last week, we chatted for a little while, but my insane lead didn't come up.

Uni Derby: 1st place here as well with a 74 point lead.

Bestie Derby: Another 1st place spot, though the gap has shrunk to 195 points. I'm not fearful of losing it, but can see where she's picking up the pace as my squad keeps borderline blanking.

Intercontinental Derby: 1st place here as well with an 87 point lead.

Can I ask what you’d do with my anaemic and underperforming fpl team? I play with the additional informal rule that I can’t have any Arsenal players, and don’t mind paying them the compliment that it’s made fpl success this season really bleeding elusive. I’ve got 0.1m in the bank account, already played my wild card, and a season total to date of just 1074. Interested to hear what you’d prescribe!

Yes! I figured I'd answer this ahead of Friday to give you time to deliberate. These are the kind of footy asks I've been looking for, thanks for your submission, let's get into it!

I completely understand your lack of desire for Arsenal players, my squad lacks United players for the same reason yours lacks Gunners.

While the next right move feels kind of limited, especially without your wildcard chip available, I'm confident you have a few options.

Wait and see- this is the simplest of the choices. Making singular transfers each week and small changes here and there based off of price availabilty, upcoming fixtures, health/longevity, points per match, and form. The FPL gods are often times unpredictable and they're quick to turn the tables, patience does have potential to pay off.

Free hit and experiment- use your free hit chip this upcoming gameweek and fill your squad with players based off of the same small changes you'd make with weekly transfers suggested above. Record the transfers you make and use them to guide your upcoming weekly transfers (utilizing free hit would give you 2 free transfers the following gameweek assuming you've only got 1 free transfer moving into this upcoming gameweek).

The long game- Transfer the 3 on your bench, and make small transfers up until Gameweek 28 (trying to stick to the same clubs you have in your squad now) and bench boost GW28 to maximize points.

Now, don't hold me to this, but I can give suggestions in terms of specific transfers you can make. I'll try to aim to make these transfers the same price or cheaper than the player, so you can make some of these and save up to upgrade others. (If that makes sense) I might end up suggesting more than 3 players per club for your squad, so just pick and choose a few that would work with your squad.

Starting with your bench: Wharton for Morris Luis Frimpong for Reece James Gudmundson would be one you might want to save up to upgrade as he's priced at 3.8m, or you could hang onto him and upgrade others Moving to you goalkeepers: Dubravka is the best bang for your buck here Pickford for Roefs, you'll save 0.6m and only lose 0.2 points per match (if you're going to make this transfer I'd play him GW24, but bench for GW25/26)

Moving to your defense: (barring the players on your bench) Porro for Thiaw, you'll save 0.1m and Thiaw's better in form and points per match. Tarkowski I'd actually keep on Alderete as well (just for his price point, this one might be a good player to upgrade with other savings)

Moving to your midfield: (barring the players on your bench): Bruno Fernandes for Semenyo, I promise this isn't just my City bias. They're at the same form currently, but Semenyo has more points for the season, and you can save a whopping 1.6m through this transfer. Rogers for Enzo, Enzo's not too far behind Rogers for overall points this season, is in better form, they have the same points per match and you can save 1m through this transfer Foden for Wilson, Wilson's in better form, has more points overall for the season, and earns 0.3 more points per match. An added benefits would be saving 2.5m. Szoboszlai I'd hang onto!

And finally, up top: I'd hang onto Haaland, not only do 72.8% of players have him which'll benefit you in league play, while he's up and down, when he's up he's up. His playing time hasn't been the greatest post winter transfers, but I can't imagine he'd end the season poorly. Calvert-Lewin I'd probably dip into some of those savings and upgrade Ekitike for Bowen, Bowen's in better form, has more points for the season overall, earns more points per match, and you'd save 1.2m.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 23.2- Sunday Recap

Much better performance this week, if only my defender and goalkeeper could have contributed more.

Quick recap: this week's challenge is The Ball-Carrier, in which there are 2 bonus points added for each successful dribble past opponents.

Gabriel brought in a single point this week, playing a full 90' but dropping a point to goals conceded.

Joao Pedro brought in 16 points, playing 84', scoring a goal, making an assist, picking up 3 bonus points, and completing 2 successful dribbles past his opponents.

For this gameweek, I brought in 64 points, keeping me in the top 1% global rank.

I've now reached 84 points for this event, climbing to the top 50% global rank for the event overall. Not shabby considering I missed a week and didn't perform well in GW22.

This brings me to 1,121 points for the season, and I've kept a World Class 2 ranking with the hopes to reach my Legend rank once again before the end of the season.

Gameweek 23.2- Sunday Recap

Far from the strong start I was hoping to have, but you know! Can't win them all.

Point Breakdown/Bonus Points

Gabriel brought in a point of his own, having played a full 90', but dropping a point to goals conceded.

Chalobah brought in 4 points today, contributing 90' on the pitch and picking up 2 extra points through 14 defensive contributions.

Timber brought in a singular point through 90' on the pitch and a dropped point to goals conceded.

Rice picked up a singular point through a 90' contribution, but dropped a point to a yellow card.

Thiago added 2 points to the pot through 90' on the pitch.

Woltemade brought in a point to 28' of playing time.

Bonus points were awarded to Igor Jesus, Aina, Awoniyi, Martinez, Watkins, Buendia, Cunha, Mbuemo, and Merino.

Overall Standings

Such a strong start just to end up 9 points below average, and that'll slip even lower after tomorrow's fixture.

I brought in another 28 points this week, I'm sat 77 points behind the this week's top scorer. This brings my season total to 1,347 points.

Tumblr league: Still in 1st with a 33 point lead.

Battle of the exes: 1st place lead here with a 150 point lead.

College derby: 1st place here too, I've got an 84 point cushion.

Online friend: 1st place here as well! There's a wide 206 point gap.

Intercontinental derby: 1st place here too, I've got 93 points on the homie.

FPL Challenge Gameweek 23.1- Saturday Recap

Now this is more like it! Let's get into it.

Quick recap: this week's challenge is The Ball-Carrier, where there's an additional 2 points awarded for every successful dribble past an opponent.

Starting in the back and working our way up, Roefs brought in 1 point, playing 90' but dropping a point to goals conceded.

Semenyo brought in 8 points of his own, playing a full 90', scoring a goal, and maintaining a clean sheet.

Wilson brought in 10 points today through a 90' contribution, scoring a goal, and picking up 3 bonus points.

Last but far from least, Captained Bowen brought in 28 points, having played a full 90', scoring a goal, making an assist, picking up 3 bonus points, and earning 2 points for a successful dribble.

This brings me to 47 points thus far this gameweek, putting me in the top 1% global ranking for the week.

I've reached 58 event points and crawled my way up to the top 60% global ranking (having missed 1 week and tanked another).

For this season I've reached 1,095 points having played 20/22 gameweeks, I've been demoted to World Class 2, but I'm hoping this week's performance will move me up a bit. Overall I'm hoping to reach my Legend ranking once again before the end of the season.
