nice to meet you :)

this blog is going to be dedicated to sharing my poetry. i don't really do "resolutions" but do set goals, and one of my goals for 2026 is to write a poem every day.

i've been using the prompts shared by @.angelealowes over on instagram, but if i use any others i'll be sure to credit them!

some of these are incredibly personal, but if you can find yourself relating to them, enjoying them, or even disliking them, i've made you feel something and that's the whole point in sharing them.

i am new to writing poetry, and i'm still looking for a style of my own, so feel free to follow me and watch my work evolve over the year.

all of the poems shared here are ~~mostly~~ unedited (redacting overly-personal details, resolving typos, things of the sort) one shots, just based off the given prompt and what it inspires.

while these are from much earlier in the year, eventually they will all get posted, separately they all standalone, but the theme changes and the characters reflect life and the world around me and evolve over time, which is pretty neat. so follow along, or don't, that's the beauty of free will.

JAN 24 uranium heart

i told you that i haunt you still, but truthfully, it's your ghost that lingers

like one-too-many x-rays in a year you're part of my bones now

never had such a hard time forgetting someone so thoroughly

maybe i need to leave this town maybe i need to leave this dream

happy birthday, here's to another year of you

you in my ribs, you in my blood you absolutely everywhere except for right in front of me

your uranium heart it was hard to obtain, yet felt so easy to lose

i might haunt you but you live within me

your absence has been corroding me. happy birthday to you.

JAN 23 technicolor dream

god, you're gorgeous. a technicolor dream come true.

your hand brushing against mine your smile looks like a welcome home.

it felt wrong to want you because it was

but the chains are gone and i'm up for grabs

and the technicolor dream fades to beige reality

where'd it go? all that chemistry?

it feels like we've hit the mute button we've turned down the brightness

maybe it's time we had a talk and bring that technicolor dream to life

service with a smile

JAN 22 you don't know what shape i'm in

you call it fake, i call it strong.

hide the pain with a smile, keep trudging along.

take the crap life throws at me, bury the stress under jokes.

not pretending like it isn't happening just not subjecting the outside world to it

you don't know what shape i'm in i'll bend but never break.

malleable, personable, bubbly and lighthearted human, trying not to crack under the pressure.

destination and experience- never an anchor

JAN 21 we're always headed somewhere

look around, everyone's got somewhere to be heads down, buried in a screen moving fast without time to chat

we're all going somewhere just trying to reach our destination just trying to work to pay for extraordinary experiences just trying to move forward, anchorless

i am woman, i am open, i am fun and wild and free i am a vacation home, merely a temporary destination i am spontaneous, an extraordinary experience but then life sets in, and no ones wants to lay down an anchor

this is not to say "woe is me" but to say it's hard to say when someone'll want to stay by me a destination, an experience, but nowhere to plant roots changed the soil, built a port, yet we're always headed somewhere

so i've decided to plant my own roots to lay my own anchors i've been by my side since the beginning of time when i take my last breath, i'll have remained here for all time

we're always headed somewhere so i'm planning solo trips i want to see the world so i'll show myself it

early-mid twenties: struggling but doing alright

JAN 20 these are the good old days

go to work, work too hard, get paid too little, hit the bar.

befriend the regulars, befriend the bartenders, befriend coworkers have community

be shocked by the bartenders when they actually become your friends swap numbers, swap spit meet each other's families

be shocked when work sucks but it's a blessing to be employed it's a blessing for the check to clear it's a blessing to take the mistreatment

be shocked when you look around and how at 23, your life is nothing like you planned how at 18, the service industry seemed beneath you embrace it: life changes. that's growth, babe

these are the good old days no kids, no mortgage just rent and bar tabs and people around to celebrate you

community, found family, friends shit job, late paychecks, hard to save travel plans, desires, empty beds it's not glamorous, but these are the good old days

your game

JAN 19 starburned and unkissed

this game of yours the one i'd claimed i won didn't leave me without scars but left me starburned and unkissed

took away your love like that's some form of punishment took away your care as if i ever even needed it

that, all along was my strategy you see i'm self fuliflled and self controlled i had plenty of replacement offers i declined for the sake of loyalty and my own karma

i didn't need your kisses nor did i need your touch i never needed your affirmations i certainly didn't need your permission

but god... it would have been nice... you'd get mad when i'd be hit on but never hit on me yourself leaving me unkissed when you'd drag me home at night

but it wasn't always this way i was starstruck when i met you you're taller, older, and a lot less wise than i assumed you were leaving me starburned when i now sleep alone at night

your love seemed to fade your love seemed too fake you didn't want me you just wanted my power

i refused to give it up i refused to stay home i refused to stray from our relationship but i refused to let you make me doubt myself

the game of yours was simple textbook manipulation high school level mistreatment left me starburned and unkissed

this game of yours was easily identified textbook narcissism high school level love bombing left me fully aware and intact. i win.

JAN 18 bad luck, bad habit

did it again fell for the bad boy fell for the wrong boy kept him around too long

did it again fell in love with the wrong boy let him treat me wrong, boy let him stick around too long

waited for him to leave dragging my friends down with me complaining behind his back forgiving him to his face

did it again but differently this time loved beating him at his game didn't fall apart when he tried to make me

i wouldn't call it bad luck but i'd call it a bad habit pick the wrong guy be too egotistic not to try to make it work

JAN 17 i keep changing

i am: that bitch heads turn when i walk in a room my smile lights up the bar my laughter shuts the place down

i am: that bitch always up to something somehow always at the scene of the crime i don't live for the plot- the plot lives for me

i am: that bitch certain things about me are perpetual but i can't help but keep changing for remaining the same seems stale

i am: that bitch comfortable with not knowing open to having my mind changed can't stop having conversations, refuse to stop learning

i am: that bitch if you knew me years ago you can't say you know me at all changing, adapting, rearranging

i am: that bitch god, how i love being that bitch how i love being at the wrong place at the right time how i love being me

duality: existing at each end of logic and emotion

JAN 16 effortlessly, i feel everything

emotionally aware intellectually sharp effortlessly, i feel everything with effort, i choose not to act

having to water down my EQ with IQ having to rationalize every emotional thought intellectualizing emotions away feelings, logic, and reason all trying to take the lead

it gets exhausting but keeps me in check calculating each step perfecting each move

because no matter how smart i am no matter what i know in my mind no matter how much better life's been since i've let my brain take the lead

part of my heart still yearns for control for effortlessly, i feel everything if only my heart and brain could agree if only the two could compromise

truth is, i feel everything and yet i lead with my brain my heart is pure, full, and good but it's never kept me safe the way my brain has

JAN 15 destroy myself just for you

i'm younger shorter physically weaker i have a big heart

you thought that meant that every time you'd call i'd come running straight to you

you thought that meant that every time you'd call the shots i'd fold without question just for you

it's almost laughable how even at the end i refused to fall apart and it made you fall apart

it's borderline predictable that i outplayed you at your game just because you thought i'd destroy myself just for you

when it comes to your game: i win outwitted you in your own game: you lose and now i'm gone and you really lose.

JAN 14 spring is coming with a strawberry in her mouth

had a boy to warm me through the start of the winter had a boy leave me now that the winter's getting harsh

but spring is coming and no one can stop her

strawberry in her mouth summer in tow

the impending signs change on the horizon

march showers april flowers

renewal, rebirth after this cold, harsh winter

what will she bring me? who really has a clue

but i'm ready to see her like i'm ready to forget you.

JAN 13 better than you found me

i was doing just fine made an alliance with myself had my own back had my own code

then you came around shifted my skies blinded me to bullshit ruined my nights

intoxicated me with your soft side blindfolded me with your touch kept me whiplashed the immediate shift between perfection and poison

you decided we were done i decided not to fight and yet i've heard from you once a day, sometimes twice

get some liquor in you tell me more lies you say you want to talk and that's the last thing i want

there's nothing left to say there's nothing left to do let's keep this amicable keep the truth between me and you

because you can say what you want i have receipts, texts, the proof you have slander, lies, and stories but i can put my money where my mouth is

truth is, i won't tell because it's embarrassing how long i let you drag me through hell because i loved you

it's not that i wish you'd left me better than you found me even though i think i do it's that the way i carried myself all along shows me that i am better than you found me

not because of you not because you did good not because you changed me but because you didn't- i wouldn't let you.

all you had to do

JAN 12 i'm in the palm of your hand

almost 24 hours of us being broken up and i've done nothing but eat and sit around embracing the love around me embracing the day off of work

almost 24 hours of us being apart and i've had enough time to think it's clear to me how easy it would be if you wanted to make me stay

when i'm in the palm of your hand the way i was for a while just kiss me, love me, hold me and trust you're the only i'd do that with

let me go out let me talk to strangers let me live my life knowing i'm coming home with you

it was never enough for you to just know that i loved you you didn't love who i was you probably loved the way i look

or perhaps it's my young age that made you think i was influenceable and my backbone is what broke you and my smile made you feel dispensable

you taught me, early on too so much of what i don't want a good yardstick of my own growth a hard way to learn i'm stronger now

there won't be a next time but know it would have been easy to keep me forever once i'm in the palm of your hand

i'm so sorry i let him hurt you i let him in i let him be the one to let go

i'm so sorry i work a job i hate i fumble my responsibilities i'm letting life pass you by

is it clear that i miss you that i kept the lamp burning that i post for your attention that after all this time i miss you

is it clear to you that i've been sleeping in your garden lingering in your atmosphere wishing you'd wish for me to come back i've seen your side i've done the work i truly am a whole new person

i hope you're new too i hope you're changing i hope you're single now that you know i am too what are we doing why do i pine for you after watching you leave so many times

sleeping in your garden chasing your shadow setting the lamp in the window checking for you in every room i enter seeing if there's a way we could start again changing to see if it'd bring you back sucks, i miss you.
