Should I quit my new Dollar General job? I’m 1 week in and already thinking of quitting, and that has NEVER happened to me with a new job.

My reasoning for wanting to quit below the cut:

The store is a mess literally all the time, the sales floor is usually cluttered to some degree while the break room and backrooms look like a bomb went off inside.

There’s only one bathroom for employees (they had to close off the customer bathrooms due to excessive shoplifting) and there’s only one key to the bathroom that regular employees are allowed to use (managers and key-holders have their own copies, because of course they do). This system just sucks in my opinion.

There’s no door to the break room. Customers can deadass just walk past and see some underpaid shmuck crying over their microwaved burrito at any point, unless of course there’s a metric fuckton of boxes in the way, which seems fairly common so far.

There’s no intercom system and no walkie talkies. If something happens, I have to scream at the top of my lungs for the manager, or drop everything to go lookin for them, unless I want to try calling their number and risking getting in trouble for using my phone on the job.

They are aggressively anti-union. One of the training videos was straight up anti-union propaganda, and it only took a quick search online to find evidence of DG’s union busting efforts, some of which have been illegal.

There’s only one computer we can clock in on, and it’s the same computer we use for transactions, so you’re having to wait until the current transaction is done and/or make the next customer wait until you’re clocked in before they can get checked out. It’s awkward and just annoying as hell.

Apparently they’re deadass on OSHA’s naughty list of companies that are frequent offenders. Yikes.

We’re supposed to talk and be social with customers, and my introverted ass doesn’t want to do that all the time, especially not for such dogshit wages. Honestly it just seems like a very extroverted job, and I can already feel the burnout setting in.

One of my coworkers is a teenager working 3 jobs, which is in and of itself a red flag in my opinion.

Looking online, all I can find is how terrible a company DG is to work for and how scummy their business practices are.

Honestly I can probably think of more, but I don’t feel like it right now.

Here’s the very few pros I can think of:

The bar is so fucking low, my manager deadass said she doesn’t care if I show up to work high as long as I’m not actively hitting a dab pen in the store or parking lot where someone could be a Karen about it. She literally said I can hit a dab pen on the clock so long as I do it hidden behind the store’s dumpster. Not planning on doing that, but it just goes to show how little they give a fuck.

The manager and key holder said they’re willing to accommodate me however possible because most of their employees are teenagers at the moment (which also feels like a red flag ngl) and they’re desperate to retain a functioning adult somehow.

I’m making about $12 an hour, which isn’t great where I live (definitely not enough to support oneself but I still live with my parents so that’s not a problem for me), but it’s better than nothing.

Hope y’all don’t mind the unusual post, I just want some other opinions on the matter.

No work calls after hours unless there's a natural disaster, war, or random apocalypse.

I do not spend my money on your projects. Ever.

I am not donating to the company's favorite charity so management can take credit for employee donations.

No HR inspections of my home workspace. Fuck off.

I don't attend so-called 'Team Building' events on weekends. Also fuck off.

Just because I do photography as my side hustle doesn't mean I'm going to do it for 'The Team'...for free. Fuck off.

I am not carpooling so management can get a plastic trophy from some local agency. Fuck off.

I am not sharing my personal computers, software, equipment, etc. with 'The Team'. Fuck off.

Remember the no-notice layoffs you gave to my coworkers? That's why you are no longer entitled to two weeks notice from me or anyone else.

Loyalty is a two-way street. You don't have any for me so guess how much I have for you?

got a new job and i quit after the first day

the work was gross but I could deal with it (food service iykyk) it was just the fuckin Dude Club™ that ran the place who pissed me off, like if the phrase "boys will be boys" was a group, it was them

racist, sexist, abelist remarks and "jokes" the whole time and rampant bullying, particularly of this one dude, and when i expressed dislike of their behavior they tried to SPRAY ME WITH THE SINK HOSE (pictured) if you've never used one they shoot HARD and FAR

i even complained to the manager, who didnt seem to really care and tried to get me to change departments (big business) and I was like UMMM NO ??? if one part of your company sucks, the whole place fuckin sucks

so anyways I made $80 off their shitty business (hopefully, still waiting on my check) and I'm never going there again

New mangerment is ass. They're really be trying to gaslight me about tasks that I have done which they're claiming I haven't, despite witnessing me doing these tasks right in front of them.

I'm so done with this shit, that job isn't worth it.
